SANT'ANNA DI STAZZEMA, Italy — Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, visiting a memorial to victims of Nazi atrocities in World War II, declared Monday the United States will stand up to aggressors who harm civilians, wherever they are.

Tillerson traveled to Italy as Washington seeks to rally world leaders behind a strategy to resolve the protracted civil war in Syria.

The secretary of state commenced his visit to Italy by traveling up a winding mountain road to Sant'Anna di Stazzema, the Tuscan village where the Nazis massacred more than 500 civilians during World War II.

As he laid a wreath at the site, Tillerson alluded to the chemical attack in Syria last week that triggered retaliatory U.S. airstrikes.

"We rededicate ourselves to holding to account any and all who commit crimes against the innocents anywhere in the world," Tillerson said. "This place will serve as an inspiration to us all."

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that it is now his responsibility to resolve the humanitarian and political crisis in Syria as he opened the door to military action in the country.  

Trump upped the ante in a Rose Garden press conference after having said earlier in the day that the the chemical weapons attack is a 'terrible affront to humanity.' 

'My attitude toward Syria and Assad has changed very much,' Trump declared, suggesting with the statement that he may be reconsidering his directive to US diplomats to take their focus off removing Bashar al-Assad from power. 

The 'horrible, horrible' sarin gas attack that killed small children and 'beautiful babies' had a 'big impact' on the president, who declared Wednesday that the attack 'crossed a lot of lines.'

'When you kill innocent children, innocent babies...with a chemical gas that is so lethal...that crosses many, many lines. Beyond a red line,' Trump said, making reference to Barack Obama's infamous 2012 threat to Assad.

This is a horrible, horrible mistake. It is indulging in the neocon delusion that worlds problems are our problems. It is a shame about the dead kids but kids are getting shot in Chicago every day. Now they have to wear bullet proof vests to go to school. We are not responsible for the ragheads killing each other. We don't need their oil anymore. When they are killing each other they are not killing Jews. We need to step back and let them get to it. If Russia wants to stick their dick in that zipper let them go right ahead. It is not any of our business.

I hope he comes to his senses and ignores this crap. Go back to tormenting CNN and talking about the babes they have banged with Bill O'Reilly.

Russia’s UN ambassador: Tensions with US are probably worst since 1973

UNITED NATIONS — Russia’s U.N. ambassador said that tensions with the United States are probably the worst since the 1973 Mideast war.

But Vitaly Churkin said Friday that Cold War relations between the Soviet Union and Russia more than 40 years ago were different than U.S.-Russia relations today.

“The general situation I think is pretty bad at this point, probably the worst … since 1973,” he said.

Churkin said that “even though we have serious frictions, differences like Syria, we continue to work on other issues … and sometimes quite well.”

That wasn’t the case generally during the Cold War.

When Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack against Israel on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar in 1973, the Mideast was thrown into turmoil. And according to historians, the threat of war between the Soviet Union, which backed the Arabs, and the United States, Israel’s closest ally, was the highest since the 1962 Cuban missile crisis.

Churkin said there are “a string of things” that have brought U.S.-Russian relations to their current low point.

“It’s kind of a fundamental lack of respect and lack of in-depth discussions” on political issues, he said.

This week marked the anniversary of the September 11 attacks on America. Most of us didn't realize it at the time, but those attacks also marked the beginning of the end of the golden age of American Jewry – on both sides of the ideological divide.

Most American Jews make their home on the political Left, and together with black Americans they comprise the most loyal Democratic voting bloc. American Jews have clung to the Democratic Party despite the fact that over the past decade and a half, their position in the party has become increasingly precarious.

After the September 11 attacks, the American anti-war movement rose as a force in the party. The movement was quick to conflate its anti-Americanism with hostility for Israel. Jewish anti-war activists were forced to choose between Zionism and pacifism.

And the situation has only grown worse over time.

President Barack Obama wants NATO to “stand firm” against Russia until the Kremlin has fully complied with ceasefire agreements in east Ukraine.

He also promised 1,000 troops to Poland for extra security:

“In Warsaw, we must reaffirm our determination — our duty under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty — to defend every NATO ally,” Obama said.

“We need to bolster the defense of our allies in central and eastern Europe, strengthen deterrence and boost our resilience against new threats, including cyber attacks.”

In Trump, feminists have a true cultural bogeyman, and he is actually dangerous. Trump is commandeering the debate over masculinity and providing the cultural Left with a lifetime’s worth of dissertations, think pieces, and television tropes on the evils of “manhood.” And Trump will have helped define their terms.

He has brought out of the woodwork a bloc of people who apparently believe that the answer to political correctness isn’t truth and virtue but rather becoming what the other side most hates. If the other side polices language, then the answer is vulgarity. If the other side embraces diversity, then the answer is flirtation with white nationalism and white-identity politics. If the other side tries to cast men as dangerous, sex-obsessed bullies, well then hoist the middle finger, glory in Trump’s apparent sexual and financial success, and relish the whining of feminists and “betas” everywhere.

Trump’s masculinity is a cheap counterfeit of the masculinity that’s truly threatening to the cultural Left: man not as predator but as protector, the “sheepdog” of American Sniper fame. This is the brave man, the selfless man who channels his aggression and sense of adventure into building a nation, an economy, and — yes — a family. This is the man who kicks down doors in Fallujah or gathers a makeshift militia to rush hijackers in the skies above Pennsylvania. Or, to choose a more mundane — though no less important — example: This is the man who packs up the household to take a chance on a new job, models strength for his family when life turns hard, teaches his son to stand against bullies on the playground, and lives at all times with dignity and honor.

The masculinity that threatens the Left is the masculinity that embraces the manly virtues while minimizing the traditional manly vices.

Two Republicans intimately familiar with Bill Kristol’s efforts to recruit an independent presidential candidate to challenge Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have told Bloomberg Politics that the person Kristol has in mind is David French -- whose name the editor of the Weekly Standard floated in the current issue of the magazine.

French is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. According to the website of National Review, where French is a staff writer, he is a constitutional lawyer, a recipient of the Bronze Star, and an author of several books who lives in Columbia, Tenn., with his wife Nancy and three children.

Reached in Israel late Tuesday afternoon, Kristol declined to comment on his efforts to induce French to run. The two Republicans confirmed that French is open to launching a bid, but that he has not made a final decision. One of the Republicans added that French has not lined up a vice-presidential running mate or significant financial support. However, according to this person, some conservative donors look favorably on the prospect of French entering the fray.

Equatorial Guinea looked like a possibility. He had always disliked Italians.

Young Sasse has been rebuked by those witless burghers in his benighted home state of Nebraska or wherever he is from. They voted to censure and primary anyone who refused to support the Republican nominee. I doubt anyone would risk their sinecures to fight on against Trump if their seats are at risk.”

“Hurrrumph” growled Will as he moved flem from one part of his sinus to the other. It was a gift he had. Having a calm exterior will being a roiling mass of flem underneath. “Don’t go all wobbly on me Kristol. You are only here on sufferance you know. We only let Jews in to count money and influence their fellows who control the banks that the Trilateral commission does not yet control. So be silent while your betters converse. Sasse is not an issue. When the press digs into his past and find out his history of being in charge of the Congressional pages when they were molested by Hasbert and Foley his career will be at end. If we have to expend him now it is for the best. Cannon fodder at the best my dear Yiddish chap. No. We will continue the fight. We are taking names of those who support these upstarts and fools.
