Cindy Vinson and Tom Waschura are big believers in the Affordable Care Act. They vote independent and are proud to say they helped elect and re-elect President Barack Obama.
"I was laughing at Boehner -- until the mail came today," Waschura said, referring to House Speaker John Boehner, who is leading the Republican charge to defund Obamacare.
"I really don't like the Republican tactics, but at least now I can understand why they are so pissed about this. When you take $10,000 out of my family's pocket each year, that's otherwise disposable income or retirement savings that will not be going into our local economy."

one who was going to pay for it personally."
Bwahahahaahhhaaa
Who the heck did he THINK was going to pay for it. The health insurance fairy.
People were warned about this and have been ignoring or laughing at those who were warning.
Good. Fuck all you liberal lickspittles who mindlessly elected Obama. Feel good about yourself now?
Note the usual - "I hate the republicans because because because..."
Paint chips taste goooood.
The entire corrupt mega-media democrat party conglomerate feeds these idiots lies, and they buy it even after they open the mail.
Come on corrupt media-democrat alliance - you have some work to do. How can you get these people to understand the ACA is awesome!
Do such people really exist? When you take a ten thousand dollar hit is your concern that "less money will go into the local economy?" Where's the visceral anger?

Congratulations, assholes. You laughed at any criticism of your guy (and probably called the critics racists like all the other Obama drones do), and now you can eat it, you worthless sacks of shit.

ric, they'd have to admit they fucked up before they get angry, and they'd have to admit you can criticize a black President for reasons other than being a Klansman.
they'd have to admit you can criticize a black President for reasons other than being a Klansman.
... for reasons other than THE CRITIC being a Klansman.
Forgive me, English is my second language. (I grew up speaking American, which is an entirely different language.)
Fuck all you liberal lickspittles who mindlessly elected Obama. Feel good about yourself now?
I feel great. Of course, you should actually read the article.
Fortunately, red meat seems more abundant than ever.
Race issue brought up by wingers in 3...2... oh.
Of course phx feels great.
He hasn't been able to sign up yet, so he doesn't know his free trip to Dachau-on-the-Brazos will cost him $20,000 a year.
PS Race issue brought up by Left-wingers in ... NOW!
Think you missed the boat on that one, edutcher.
I did read the article.
Amazingly enough, that is how I am able to make quotes from it.
Adding a required list of 10 essential benefits to all plans is also significant. A study published last year in the journal Health Affairs said more than half of Americans who had individual insurance in 2010 were enrolled in plans that would not qualify because they didn't meet all the new requirements.
I warned about this several YEARS ago at Althouse. If you increase the things that are MANDATED to be covered, it is going to cost more. Everyone of the liberal laughed and called me names. If you FORCE people to buy coverage for things that they don't need (maternity care) or want then it is going to cost more.
When you add in the cost of lowering premiums for people who SHOULD pay more, the already ill and who will GUARANTEED cost more, then the costs have to be spread over the pool of people who participate. Meaning the young, the healthy and dopes like those in this article who are NOT going to get the welfare subsidies will have to PAY MORE.
Why any of this is a surprise to an adult with half a brain is beyond me.
But.....you voted for this...Suck it up and eat it.
Interesting: The comments after the article largely reflect the voices here. I sense an approaching consensus.
"Don't listen to those people! They're mean haters who hate!"
Stupid... of course everyone complaining about this for the last four years had *reasons*.
Dear freaking dog.

It's an endurance test.
I recall that qualified women at work always migrated to the Women's Workplace Issues Committee, while the guys were doing physics.
The sex difference in what is found interesting is pretty strong.
Dust Bunny Queen,
I did read the article.
But you're all focussing on what you want. Not one of you has referenced the conclusion:
"I really don't like the Republican tactics,...
…I'm not against Obamacare. It's just the initial shock. I'm holding out hope that there will be a correction over a handful of years."
You guys have flung the Republican Party between the Democrats and a bus and want to be thanked for it,..
phx: No matter what the good intentions of helping the "40 million", what about the effect of hurting the other hundreds of millions?
Oh, the 'I told you so's.' The beautiful, beautiful 'I told you so's.'
You can't get anything-care to work with third party payers.
Estimate the price of a haircut if there was haircut insurance.
I agree. Bullshit on the They vote independent
I don't give a crap about the "Republican Party". Most of them are old tired mossback RINOs anyway. It will have to be a bottom up removal of the old guard and cleanse the entire political machine, Dems or Republicans from these self serving assholes who only care about their own power.
It will take people who are willing to stand on their principles and actually follow through on the promises that they made to the people who voted for them. We have a "representative" government and the politicians need to be held accountable when they cease to represent their constituency.
Personally, I would like to see the bus run over the whole lot of them. A peaceful resolution or revolution is one way the goal. Let us hope that we take that path. But....if not....Oh well. Mr. Clueless Loser in the Bay Area can be surprised about that too.

phx: No matter what the good intentions of helping the "40 million", what about the effect of hurting the other hundreds of millions?
I've said this a bazillion times. Urkel made the case that in order to service 30-40 million uninsured he wanted, no needed, to hobble hundreds of millions more to do it and the ones who supported it said YAY! DO IT!!! then come to find out, those 30 - 40 million will still be uninsured, so now we are left with this abysmal law that has been deemed a tax, and hundreds of millions of americans are still going to be hobbled for it. YAY!!!
I don't give a crap about the "Republican Party". Most of them are old tired mossback RINOs anyway.
The Republican Party needs an alternative to kowtowing to people who feel this way.
Hey Crack, why the fuck do you care about the Republican party. I certainly don't since I haven't been a republican for years. They are dead and they prove it in their relentless pursuit of idiocy and letting democrats paint them into a corner daily.
Whenever liberals have no choice but to face the horrible consequences of what they supported and voted in - they suddenly become "Independent".. or "moderate".
Riiiight.
AllenS,
I agree. Bullshit on the They vote independent
Dust Bunny Queen,
Most of them are old tired mossback RINOs anyway.
So you guys are taking us over a cliff because you can't imagine turning the wheel?
This conservative purity bullshit, in the face of an evolving scenario, is troubling. I mean, you ARE the same people who were going to vote for Romney, right? Mr. RomneyCare? RINO Extrordinaire?
And - since you same people thought (Whoops!) he was going to win in a landslide - isn't it possible some of you might not see things as they've been?
phx: The Republican Party needs an alternative to kowtowing to people who feel this way.
And they're getting it. What are you complaining about...the backfiring of your false flag "concern"?
"Everybody excited about this also had *reasons*. 40 million good reasons to start."
Just another of the endless claims proven to be a lie. Every branch you grab onto has broken on the way down, and you have that twig left slipping through your fingers.
These people would still vote for this all over again. They love the lies that much. I imagine them on the front porch of the trailer with a black eye and a busted lip as the cops take away their serial abusing husband as they yell "I know you really love me. I'll get you out in the morning honey."
This clusterfuck will not be honestly faced and corrected until millions are suffering and severely damaged financially. It won't be fixed if things are just the same or a little worse, which would still be an enormous failure.
These people feel no shame until they hurt people bad, and maybe not even then. They believe in the cause, and believing has always been the end for them. It's so exciting to realize you are the people you have been waiting for, and the rest of us just need to shut the fuck up and pay.
Crack: Is Romney still running? You killed him, remember? "A Parable of a Madman"
C'mon everyone, just join in and make it work. Because ... Obama.
I mean, you ARE the same people who were going to vote for Romney, right? Mr. RomneyCare? RINO Extrordinaire?
Romney wasn't picked by me. It was the old mossbacks who did it.
I didn't waste my vote though by voting for Romney. In California your vote for anything other than a Democrat in the Presidential eletion doesn't count. (Local elections, that is different). I voted for Zaphod Beeblebrox for President.
Sometimes going over cliff...or a hard reboot is they only way to make real changes.

OF COURSE they don't like the Republican tactics. DUH. They're low information voters who believe what their TV tells them is truth. Maybe, maybe, maybe now they'll start looking elsewhere, get a new perspective. Maybe.
$10,000/year is a lot to ask because ... Obama.
The lady from Danville (a very pricey place to live, also quite white) is going to see her premiums drop. TYPICAL! Rich white people benefit (etc etc etc)
Because ... Obama.
These people feel no shame until they hurt people bad, and maybe not even then. They believe in the cause, and believing has always been the end for them.
Wow. Get out the torches. People who support Obama and/or Obamacare are all ruthless Maoists who are hurting people bad, and the don't care!!

Riiight. That's what opposition to an ill-timed, and totally manufactured post-Trayvon crisis - that will only hurt Republicans and the poor because the Democrats are offering "free" - amounts to. Why can't you guys get it through your heads:
The Calvary riding in BEFORE THINGS GO WRONG doesn't look like the Calvary to those who were already previously busy defying you,...
Romney wasn't my favorite candidate. That's for sure. However, I can't see him shutting down the WWII, Korean and Viet Nam was memorials. Not to mention everything else that usually is open for business 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Well, he either cared about it enough to set it up for his state of Mass., but didn't think of it well enough to become a national construct and viewed it that way to make one of his campaign promises to give a 50 state waiver on his first day as president. I took him at his word for it only because I know the scumbag dealings it took to make the ACA law.
And - since you same people thought (Whoops!) he was going to win in a landslide - isn't it possible some of you might not see things as they've been?
It's not about political or ideological purity. At least not for me. I want our side to win, but leftists seem to not to have a problem with their political/ideological purity enough to keep winning. So the real question is, do the riff raff only care about the house to give it to republicans while the hoi pelloi vote leftist for the senate and the presidency because they all know where their bread is buttered?

A little punk ass kid has nothing to do with the evolving of Obamacare,......except to act as the latest glittering ....squirrel....object to distract the stupid, who abound in our country. Evidently.
Obamacare has been stewing, just like the witch's brew in Macbeth for a long time now. Many of us could smell the stink. Now the liberal low information voters who live in the magic bubble land of places like the Bay Area are going to get a good dose and suddenly....they are not going to like it.
But since, they cannot ever question their own culpability or question the sources of their cookie cutter ideas or evidence one iota of critical thinking, they will not blame who needs to be blamed for this clusterfuck. They will continue to blame the Republicans who voted 100% against Obamacare.

Oh yeah, that isn't extremist at all. And the right gets called extremist by people like you. Oh noes, I amz teh hurted!!!
"Wow. Get out the torches. People who support Obama and/or Obamacare are all ruthless Maoists who are hurting people bad, and the don't care!!"
So you do care, but these people and the millions like them just need to suck it up? Or these people and all the rest are lying? Or you have a glorious plan that only you and Obama can see that will show itself in the future? Will you read that one before you do it this time???
Discredit Oprah? Are you serious? If people want to watch any TV show, they are free to do so. You can't stop them. You can sit behind your computer screen and preach all your boogiemen cult bullshit, but if people want to join one, they are free to do so, and neither you nor anyone else can stop them. Those are the facts.
Maybe you should protest the Oprah show in front of the Oprah show. Make a scene. Make a big scene.

Yeah, well, there are millions of weak links in this country. Millions enough to believe in Oprah to fund her bullshit and enough of those same people that voted for that monstrous scumbag we have for a president. that's one big fucking chain of weak links that have been produced by the leftist malice machine for decades. Your one little dust bunny corner of the intertubez fighting against them is like a drop of piss trying to make the oceans rise. Good for you for trying, but clearly your message isn't getting to anyone, wow, sort of like the republicans. Shocker.
Methadras,
The real question is, do the riff raff only care about the house to give it to republicans while the hoi pelloi vote leftist for the senate and the presidency because they all know where their bread is buttered?
In this situation, why not? I can imagine a lot of possibilities, but the point is, we're making Obama look like the good guy right now.

Just because your side got outpoliticked doesn't mean that the ones who did it to you are extremists. Your side chose to obstruct and not cooperate with a health bill. That's fine, but now you can see how that had consequences for your side. You lost. Not extremism, just smart politics from Obama and the Dems, and lousy management by the GOP. Well, with the Tea Party exacting their influence the GOP probably had a losing hand to play anyway.
I think everybody knows who the extremists are in the current political environment - other than the extremists themselves, as usual.
Either:
1) The Republicans cave and Obamacare ravages the nation.
2) The Dems cave, and nation gets a breather and at least a a possible save from disaster.
The only thing deciding which way it goes is public opinion. Unless the public generally starts blaming Democrats for what they are doing we are going to slog through the mess that is the ACA and now very few will be able to blame on Republicans.
Either way the Dems are in trouble down the road. Unfortunately, they only get blamed after we are totally fucked over by this stupid law. They have engineered a lose/lose of incredible proportions.
Or these people and all the rest are lying?
"I really don't like the Republican tactics,...

Quote from "these people." RTFA.
"Your side chose to obstruct and not cooperate with a health bill."
-- False. Alternatives were offered; amendments were offered. Entire conferences were offered. Democrats LITERALLY locked Republicans out of meetings and lied to them about where/when they would be held. In fact, the most popular parts of the bill (coverage for pre-existing conditions) was offered up as a stand alone bill so that it could be divorced from the unpopular parts.
I predict the President will agree to suspend the ACA for a year, thus making himself look reasonable, and avoiding some of the blame for the discomfort ahead. "It was the Congress that screwed this up. I was golfing when this went down."
Dust Bunny Queen,
WTF...Obamacare has nothing to do with the totally manufactured Trayvon myth. There is no ill timed issue here other than in your head.
Are you really that clueless to optics? Not to be too simplistic about it but:
YOU defended the killer of a black kid, so YOU are cold and heartless - so cold and heartless YOU will gladly take away "free" healthcare to protect the money you got during slavery - and you know it.

I think that's exactly what's going on and has been happening. Urkel is looking good because, as usual, he doesn't have to do anything, but throw a bomb or two into the mix and sit back and watch what happens. He is more than happy to watch this country go into default. After all, I believe that has been his Cloward-Piven goal for a long time. He's getting what he wants, to create as much pain as possible to draw in as many of his disciples to government as possible. Leftist religion on display, the state becoming as the provider of all things, a God.
Use that as your next atheistic diatribe at TMR because the newage infusion solution is really from an outcropping from leftism. Leftism is the real danger here, NewAge is one of it's delivery systems.

Oh, I know that's the optics (politi-speak for the word perception) because like I said before, we've had decades of the leftist malice machine doing the dirty work of turning this country into an idiocracy. And it's working. Spaghetti Monster help us all.
bagoh20,
Either:
1) The Republicans cave and Obamacare ravages the nation.
2) The Dems cave, and nation gets a breather and at least a a possible save from disaster.
I can't say it enough - they are not going to cave on Obama's signature achievement they've been trying to get for 40 years. It's a pipe dream.
The only thing deciding which way it goes is public opinion. Unless the public generally starts blaming Democrats for what they are doing we are going to slog through the mess that is the ACA and now very few will be able to blame on Republicans.
ObamaCare had not a single Republican signature on it - clean hands - so trying to stop the horse after it left the gate is stupid.
Either way the Dems are in trouble down the road.
Agreed.
Unfortunately, they only get blamed after we are totally fucked over by this stupid law.
Agreed.
They have engineered a lose/lose of incredible proportions.
So why would we want to dirty ourselves?
This would've been so brilliant if we'd just done nothing.
Now we've added to the cost - because they're not giving in,...
YOU defended the killer of a black kid, so YOU are cold and heartless - so cold and heartless YOU will gladly take away "free" healthcare to protect the money you got during slavery - and you know it.
Hate to break it to you Crack. I wasn't alive during the slave years. I know I'm old, but not THAT old. In addition on my father's side my family was still hacking away in the coal mines in Wales during those days or were Quakers in Pennsylvania. On my mothers side, they were eating rotten potatoes in Ireland.
As to Trayvon.....whether black or white....some people just deserve to die.
I do know what you mean about the optics though. The media just couldn't wait to make it a white on black murder, when the reality was something else entirely. When we really DO go into a complete melt down and people are pitted against each other, we can directly blame the media for feeding the beast(s) and creating the desired optics that the uninformed and pre programmed will accept the lies as the truth. George Orwell, didn't know it but his book really has become a 'how to' manual.
Clueless librul Caleeefooornnyans ask "what there is no free lunch"?
"Of course, I want people to have health care," Vinson said. "I just didn't realize I would be the
one who was going to pay for it personally."
This is the effect of the left's misinformation campaign over the last 40 years. The left believes there are no tough decisions, that we can simply raise taxes on "the rich" to pay for whatever the left wants.
Unfortunately for the math to work with universal benefits you have to define "the rich" as average income, so the victims of the misinformation campaign who believed Obama when he said family premiums would drop $2,500 end up surprised.
Let's also keep in mind this is only the beginning. The failure of Obamacare isn't today's debacles or even the performance over the next decade. It's how reducing the potential return to medical investment impacts health care improvement over generations. In 50 years we'll have drastically reduced medical innovation while still experiencing significant cost increases. Future tax increases won't bring in the same revenue as the current one, so we'll have constant fiscal crises that can only be resolved by rationing explicitly [by denying treatment with only partial likelihood of success] or implicitly [reducing physician compensation such that demand cannot be met].
It's going to get ugly, but the left believes the media and academia can delegitimize any criticism so effective policies aren't necessary, just "doing something" is the goal.
AllenS,
Hey, Crack, remember the time you told us over at TOP that your parents were slaves? You need to get a grip, man.
And, as I keep telling you, bringing that up - before you get an explanation for it - is about as effective a Saul Alinksky plan as this current fiasco you've gotten us into.
You've got no credibility as long as you don't know what you're talking about. What was my reason for saying that, Allen S? Do tell how much you know.
And the best part to me is, I now have no reason to inform you guys of the answer because you've made it such a sign of your racial resentments - "Hey, Crack, remember that time,..." Yes, very well:
It was the day you and Sixty Grit lost your cookies,...
ObamaCare had not a single Republican signature on it - clean hands - so trying to stop the horse after it left the gate is stupid.
Yes and no. The Republican's do have 'clean hands' so to speak, although you wouldn't know it from the media who want to blame everything on the Repubs.
However, trying to stop the run amok horse or the runaway train, is not always stupid. There is a runaway train and innocent people are sitting on the tracks wearing earbuds and listening to distracting sounds. Should we let them die to prove a point? Or should we do what we can to try and save them, even though they are on the tracks through their own stupidity?
Seeing the harm that this (Obamacare) will be causing to the entire country, how could anyone with any moral character NOT try to stop it.
A Facebook acquaintance recently posted that her BC-BS policy increased 300%. I went to FB to check the rest of the post and strangely (I will bet a month's income she voted for Obama) her post has disappeared.
No bad optics allowed.
"So why would we want to dirty ourselves? "
A delay of this law would prevent a lot of suffering for people I care about, and it's the only way it will not go forward. During that year, it could be phased back, and a lot of serious problems prevented for real live people by the millions.
If it goes forward now, it will never be stopped, because such crap just never is. Reliant constituencies will develop very quickly and will prevent even a Republican President and Congress from repealing it. They never repealed anything when they had the chance. Even the most unsupportable ancient subsidies still survived, and law that's been in effect for years with people invested in it is not going anywhere.
Obama knows this, and he knows the best chance of this thing surviving is not delaying it, regardless of how much trouble it gets the Dems in. He doesn't care about that. It's about Obama.
He just now needs to weight the relative effects caving versus not on how it make HIM look, period. There are arguments both ways on that, and that's why I think it's still up in the air.
And lets remember that there is no guarantee the Republicans will win even if Obamacare reveals itself to be a major fuck up. The electorate is a proven idiocracy.
Geeze Crack -- Probably the majorioty of the commenters here had their ancestors arrive after the Civil War.
We did. Except for those who fought in the GAR during the Civil War.
Just got back from a lengthy grave hunting trip up north and was surprised at how many still had the weathered star (and this year's flag) on their graves.

Allen S just told me we couldn't stop Oprah because - this is brilliant - "we can't stop people from watching TV" (like that's what I meant - these guys never ask questions, but just let their most stupid assumptions sour. It's wild). And then there's the fear Ted Cruz voiced himself - "people might like it".
Right now, our moral character is being inverted - used against us like Judo - so, for goodness' sake - stop fighting.
It's really our only option.

Stop stereotyping your commenting buddies and deal with the facts.

Otherwise it's meaningless horseshit either way because we have better things to talk about. Don't we?
As for Obamacare -- all these people who get discounts now -- how do you think they are going to like it when they move up the income chain ... Or could it be that that (subsidized health insurance) might hinder the desire to be upwardly mobile?
An INCREASE of $10,000 a year?
Advantage plans for Medicare eligible retirees are also going bonkers. So where do we line up for "subsidies?"
Right now, our moral character is being inverted - used against us like Judo - so, for goodness' sake - stop fighting.
It's really our only option.
Surrender? Become one with the rest of the sheep? Give up your moral principles?
Never give up, never surrender From on of the very best cheesiest movies evah :-)
There are plenty of other options. Some of them are just not very palatable or might take some serious work. Maybe even using Grabthar's Hammer.
Screw optics. As long as the press operates as a protection racket for one political party, optical illusions and bs are the optics.
Stand on principle, and our crap press will ignore.
Ace and Hot Air are reporting I might be wrong on thing (negotiating) but right on the other - optics -though they might be changing with only 17% of the gov shut down:
Obama has at least two incentives to talk. First, there is the matter of optics. Voters want to believe that their leaders are open-minded, a trait they particularly expect in a president who promised to change the culture of Washington. Obama simply undermines his credibility by stiff-arming the GOP. Their obstinacy is no excuse for his. During the last protracted government shutdown, President Clinton talked almost every day with GOP rivals Newt Gingrich and Bob Dole.
Second, Obama has an opportunity to deftly steer an embattled and divided GOP away from Obamacare and to an issue worthy of high-stakes negotiations: The nation’s long-term budget crisis. While it’s true that the deficit has dropped in recent months, nothing has been done to secure Social Security and Medicare beyond the next 10 years. Punting this red-ink quandary to the next president would mar Obama’s legacy.

I heard Kristof on the radio on Thursday,...
I'm just realizing what an increase in costs of $1,800/year would mean to me. That's $150/month. That isn't a lot, but it makes things a lot more uncomfortable, and eats into the money I put into my savings every month. Then again, I think myself lucky to be one of the few people making enough to be putting anything into savings [as well as being able to have aggressively paid off my student loans as much as I have.]
Honestly though, an extra cost of $150/month would probably also imply higher costs elsewhere. If those costs are passed on and cause an increase in rent and essentials, I probably would need to make some major changes.
Obama is asking to jack up the debt limit without any compromise. He's a narcissist. Nothing new. Bagoh makes a great point. A delay in aca could be a gift for the dems.
I think the grand narcissist won't budge because blaming the r's with his weaponized hack media is best for his ego.
Obama believes every thing he does addresses the incredible unfairness he perceives in America. He is a delusional Alinskyite.
A delay in aca could be a gift for the dems
I agree. The pain has just begun. By next year, 2014 an election year, the chaos and financial pain as well as the lack of networks or doctors will become really evident.
At that time the Repubs (if they were smart ..doh) should shout it from the rooftops that THEY didn't vote for this monstrosity and that THEY tried and tried to get it fixed or delayed. Put the blame where it originates
Really...the Repubs have got to stop playing nice.
Bagoh makes a great point. A delay in aca could be a gift for the dems.
Bingo. The rational Dems will cave because it will take their certain losing off the table in 2014. They aren't going to care about some egomaniac's "signature legislation" staying pristine to make a painful point and vindictive partisan point. If independents are screaming like this now, imagine 2014. Future elections have consequences too, crack.
Obama is like a cult, crack. The sooner you work to undo it, the better. Shame on you.
El Pollo Raylan,
Obama is like a cult, crack. The sooner you work to undo it, the better. Shame on you.
I love when A) people who don't study cultism tell me about it, and B) it's those same people who actually tried to get me - ME - to vote for Mitt Romney, a guy who gets his own planet upon death.
I mean, it makes all your talk about principled stands - AND RESPECTING THOSE WHO REALLY DO SO - ring so much more credibly.
You're so consistent, I expect to see a video of you dancing with your EBT card any day now,...
Conservatives will be blamed no matter what for whatever goes wrong. Evidence to the contrary will be elided, ignored, denigrated, and misrepresented.
The left/media Palace Guard/Obama Cult will always blame the extremely extreme extremists a/k/a their ideological opposites. It's who they are, it's what they do. Anything that goes wrong with the full impelementation of Obamacare will be the right wing's fault. Some how, some way.
If you think implementation of Obamacare will make Obama and the Dems fully own all aspects of it, think again. Remember when everyone was all excited about Obama "owning" this crappy economy? How's that working out?
They're still blaming Bush and it's been years since he's even been heard from substantively.
Since conservatives are going to get blamed in any event, might as well do the right thing (or the best right thing they can manage).
Speaking of optics, could Obama and the left possibly be any more clumsy and stooooopid with the optics than they have been with their obvious and explicitly mean-spirited Shutdown Theater?
Problem with optics is that they don't work if you don't have eyes to see them.

Of course. He was steeped in radical marxist leftism since his birth. Hell some would say even before he was born. His mother, a born and bred communist sought our a relationship with his father, another born and bred communist, and since he was a black african and a muslim and a radical leftist communist, it was even more counter-culture. It's in his DNA. Even after his parents split, his mother continually thrust him into leftist dogma. Even when he lived with his grandparents, they, his communists as well, and his grandfather specifically, hooked him up with another radical marxist leftist mentor in Frank Marshall Harris. And it just goes on down the line. What do you expect him to do other than see the injustices of a country that he was told and bred to hate? This is all he knows. This is all he does. He can never and will never be able to see America as a great country that has done and is doing great things. He can't. He's incapable of it. So his only option is to disassemble it as best as he can to fulfill the maturated and infused programming since before his birth. He is the best option leftists have at this moment to quickly accelerate the neo-bolshevist movement in the US. This has been planned for decades since when FDR had known communists in his administration. They finally got their guy in office to spread the wealth around, which really isn't even his intent. It's just another mechanism for the pain he wants to inflict onto a country that he utterly rejects and completely hates. Funny how many blacks have such an affinity for radical leftist marxism though. It's almost like it was tailor made for them how they accept it.
Obama's job as president is to work with and compromise with the 3 branches of government.
Period.he is not king.
I love when A) people who don't study cultism tell me about it, and B) it's those same people who actually tried to get me - ME - to vote for Mitt Romney, a guy who gets his own planet upon death.
I looked at Romney's Mormon's beliefs (which I do not share) and for evidence that he had introduced these during his public service. I didn't find anything. You obviously saw it everywhere. Tell us again about the craziest Mormon belief which Romney tried to legislate? Perhaps you should consult your sullivanist talking points before answering though.
El Pollo Raylan,
I looked at Romney's Mormon's beliefs (which I do not share) and for evidence that he had introduced these during his public service. I didn't find anything.
Which means A) you have no idea how cultism works, and B) you're a moron.
@crack: where for example were Romney's Shepard Fairey-style expressions of pagan idolatry? (aside from obvious parody?)
Call names all you like, crack. You are acting weak.
Crack, if you had the expertise in cults which you claim, you'd be denouncing Obama in the harshest terms instead of hiding behind his "good works."

Sorry edutcher. All my remarks you are selecting obviously referenced comments inside this thread - all of which you studiously ignore.
Sorry, your perception is not necessarily reality. The comments were sarcastic of the Leftist fallback positions on all things Choom.
I quoted several Democrat Senators whose taunts are used every day on this blog and other by Leftists.
Are you predicting the Dems will cave?
Not today, or tomorrow. But yes, eventually. I can't predict pathways of how things will happen, but destinations are easier to predict.
Crack, out with it please. I want a clear manifesto of your changed beliefs.
Do you now support Obama?
Do you think RINO-ism is the logical way forward?
Have you had an epiphany about racism and America and/or Republicans?
If you wish, email it to me and I'll post it for general discussion.
El Pollo Raylan ,
Call names all you like, crack. You are acting weak.
No, you're acting stupid - you're actually suggesting a cult, that has been at war with the United States for most of it's history, is actually going to be above-board with you about it's ambitions for power over it!
And what is your evidence for that assumption?
You have absolutely none, while I have their entire history - from Joseph Smith's first utterance to the last - that there's nothing but fraud there from top-to-bottom.
But - by ignoring even Romney's personal history as the white horse of the Mormon faith (a belief now dashed, I'm happy to say) - you think they're going to be up-front with you.
You're a fool,...
PS deborah, it looks like Choom may be getting ready to fold.
He is, after all, a punk at heart.
PPS Any delay would only exacerbate and point up the flaws in "free" (but more expensive) health care.
The Republicans (as opposed to the Whigs) could use it quite nicely to their advantage next year.
"Not today, or tomorrow. But yes, eventually. I can't predict pathways of how things will happen, but destinations are easier to predict."
Okay, but I think bago makes the consummate argument when he says if it goes forward now, it will be set in cement due to coalescing factions.
Thanks, Ed, do you have a good link?

lol thanks, I skimmed this thread so I missed it.

You guys are nutty - who said my beliefs have changed on anything?
Do you now support Obama?
Nope.
Do you think RINO-ism is the logical way forward?
I think that's a dumb way to think about it. I mean, what are doing? Handing out cookies to the most rigid minds now? Are there to be arm bands? Think, deb.
Have you had an epiphany about racism and America and/or Republicans?
Oh yeah - Republicans have the most tin ear in politics, regarding race, that I've ever seen in the history of modern politics - and the way I'm regarded is exhibit A of that. The way they lost the black vote is, too. The way they went all "We've got to find a hispanic!" is, too. That's so non-racial.
Trying to get me to abandon black people, because they were wrong on Trayvon, that was so cruel - and not possible of happening - it was truly insane. Y'all forget:
When I didn't vote for Obama, the charge I got from the Left - HARD - was that I hated myself. Now the Right's saying abandon my family and expecting anything but for me to recoil in disgust?

If so, my bad.
El Pollo Raylan,
@crack: As Mormonism which you relish categorizing as a litany of sins: be that as it may. I will say that he was born and raised into them,...
In anti-cult circles, those words make you a "cult apologist". But you wouldn't know anything about that, because you don't know anything about cultism, so what's the point?
....He managed to find a way to be useful outside of those specific beliefs.
He sells homeopathic preparations (that's water) as medicine - what a blessing to society he is. Fart.
Again I ask you to provide an example of his legislating Mormonism.
How many times do I have to tell you that's the wrong way to look at a "spiritual" endeavor? Did Scientology legislate "Operation Snow White" or did they infiltrate the government? And not just the government - the fucking I.R.S.. Do you think it's a mystery why the NSA is here? With the Mormons and their crazy information-collection obsession?
You're an idiot.
You crack, have apparently not escaped what you were born and raised into.
Nope, I'm quite proud of it, actually.
I get the clear impression that if you ever held elective office there would be a hell to pay by innocents for past grievances.
Tanning booths would be running 24/7 and 1 hour of Rap a day mandatory.

Do you guys see what he calls "playing"?
My black friends, offline, do wonder what the attraction is,...
Crack seems like the same Crack he's always been to me. The way some people here interact with him definitely seems different.
Are people pretending not to understand what he's writing or trying not to understand what he's writing?
Sorry, your perception is not necessarily reality. The comments were sarcastic of the Leftist fallback positions on all things Choom.
With respect edutcher, my point was you guys can't have a thread discussing national politics without bringing up race. You do that in the context of referring to leftist fallback positions (LFP), but you do it even when LFPs aren't even on the table. You (meaning the right, not you personally) now do it from inertia and lazy rhetoric instead of making a sharp point. You guys are now becoming a parody of yourselves, and you guys are the ones who are now always bringing up race.
Now I know you're gonna answer "No No No" - but pay attention and see if it isn't true.
"Oh yeah - Republicans have the most tin ear in politics, regarding race, that I've ever seen in the history of modern politics. The way they lost the black vote is, too.
-Did Republicans lose the black vote, or did the black vote go en masse with the party that was kissing its ass(all the while picking its pockets for generations)?
-What were Republicans supposed to do to win the black vote? Treat black people differently somehow?
"The way they went all "We've got to find a hispanic!" is, too. That's so non-racial."
-Yes. Agree. You're referring to Chris Christie's immigration policy, right?
"Trying to get me to abandon black people, because they were wrong on Trayvon, that was so cruel - and not possible of happening - it was truly insane. Y'all forget:
When I didn't vote for Obama, the charge I got from the Left - HARD - was that I hated myself. Now the Right's saying abandon my family and expecting anything but for me to recoil in disgust?"
-This "abandon black people" "abandon my family" thing -what the fuck are you talking about?
-Who's trying to get you to "abandon black people" or your family?"
-How are they going about doing so?
-What do you mean: "abandon black people"?
"Do you think RINO-ism is the logical way forward?"
"I think that's a dumb way to think about it. I mean, what are doing? Handing out cookies to the most rigid minds now? Are there to be arm bands."
-Oh, I see. You think RINO's are MODERATE (as portrayed by the left wing and establishment media) as opposed to being the right wing of the ruling class. And conservatives are "rigid" arm-band (???) wearers (oh, got it, they're like totally like Nazis) as opposed to the only group in DC that is not accountable to big government and its cronies. Instead of addressing the question you go with blinkered optics.
Good to see you again, Freeman.
Freeman, ftr, I think I've paid attention to what Crack believes. I knew he was not an Obama supporter, but when Romney came along he thought Obama was the lesser of two evils.
Now he is saying that fighting Obama on ACA is a fool's errand and will backfire. That's fine. It's a defensible position. But on top of it he's throwing race into, and I would like to get a serious answer as to what is going on in his thought process. I don't judge him, I just want to know what has changed and why.
Has his bad back and lack of money played into a changing perspective on ACA?
The Repubs will never win the optics. Half the country is blind, and many more never even lift their heads to look. All they can hope to do is help slow down the damage that Obamacare is doing now and in the future. They won't be able to repeal it, because they either will not win a majority, or the majority they would have will be like every Congress before it. Where is the example of Republicans eliminating a big government policy? I nearly always vote Republican, but not because they turn back progressivism. Rather, because they don't add to it with as much enthusiasm, and you have take what you can get.
When I didn't vote for Obama, the charge I got from the Left - HARD - was that I hated myself.
A lot of lefties do that. It was pretty disgraceful how they did that to Justice Thomas. I think he was probably guilty of the charges made by Anita Hill but there's no fault in being a black conservative. JMO.
The Repubs will never win the optics. Half the country is blind, and many more never even lift their heads to look.
Never stop to wonder if you might be doing something wrong. Blame the other guy for your failure.
Is that an Alinsky rule? Somebody?
Bagoh, since the school year started, I have been much busier. Also, I went out of town. And TOP reopened sans moderation. Good to see you too.

Amartel,

O.K. - now - is someone, other than me, going to explain why this particular reading of history might be a tad,...insensitive?
Not for me but, say, a general audience,...
I think phx is probably a pederast rapist whose character assures his soon suicide.
Just like with Anita Hill, we will never really know for sure though, although phx has written of driving very, very slowly through school zones...
I take Crack to mean that the election of Romney would have been a damaging promotion of Mormonism among the people and that the LDS church is politically ambitious. Also, that he uses hyperbole in an entertaining way.
That lol is for Crack. I meant to ignore the disturbed individual ahead of it and assume that you guys don't traffic with that stuff.

Freeman, he took a racial turn. Maybe it predates me. I don't know, but it's there. I understand what he's saying, but overall, I don't agree with him because his principled stance is coming from a different direction that is very limited in terms of it's scope.

Where was the evidence in Romney's record that he advanced Mormonism?
deborah,
Now he is saying that fighting Obama on ACA is a fool's errand and will backfire.
Almost - this fight, at this time, in this way. You never go into negotiations not knowing what you expect to get out of them.
That, from the start, was the fool's errand.
Dust Bunny Queen,
The only people who have brought 'race' into this discussion are YOU and Crack.
I just wrote about this phenomena this morning.
In answer to deb's question, this ability for Republicans to claim a color-blindness one moment (like here) when I last left here because, as usual, you guys couldn't shut up about it during Trayvon is fascinating. It's only where you want it to be - just like liberals and blacks.
I'd think, at some point, we'd see what that means about what we're doing,...
"O.K. - now - is someone, other than me, going to explain why this particular reading of history might be a tad,...insensitive?"
Still unable to provide a direct answer to a direct question. It's "insensitive" to speak truth to black people (as opposed to anyone else who's been conned by the left) but it's game on to slime Republicans and conservatives for "abandoning black people"?
BTW, phx is totally kissing your ass. Enjoy the moment. Then answer the questions. If you can.
Thx, Crack, the 'at this time, in this way' was implied.
Methadras,
Freeman, he took a racial turn.
And you don't understand what The Macho RESPONSE means in the context of this crowd, right?
You see anybody other than a black guy being interrogated here? I mean, come on, man, I'm under the hot light with deborah - is that common? Any body else here been asked if or how their racial views have changed? Why not? Aren't we all the same? Or are we in the same place by divergent paths?
"The Shadow knows,..."
Get real. I'm asking because you're upset and I wanted to know why. Quit the prima donna act. Thanks for finally spelling it out and letting us know it is related to comments here during the Trayvon trial.
Wow! 150 comments.
Just like the old days, huh?
Amartel,
Still unable to provide a direct answer to a direct question.
No, you flatter yourself. Didn't you hear the exasperation in my words as I asked for someone else - anyone else - to address you so I won't have to?
Why don't I want to? Because people like you are nursing racial resentments that I can only antagonize.
I recently watched the 3 hour The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu and, last night, after Giap's death in Vietnam, two docs on Battle of Dien Bien Phu so, to see American history, with it's racial struggles - and black people especially - as reduced to merely going with the party "that kissed it's ass"...
Well, let's just say I might not be the best person to explain it to you,...
"You see anybody other than a black guy being interrogated here? I mean, come on, man, I'm under the hot light with deborah - is that common? Any body else here been asked if or how their racial views have changed? Why not?"
Because you're the one making inflammatory racial comments and tying any disagreement to racism.
For what it's worth, it is not the color of your skin that causes you problems here, it's the extraordinarily paper-then quality of it.
Hey Crack,
I've always liked your use of images and color. Do you draw and illustrate?
I've recently taken up pencil sketching. Forces you to really look at the world and to really study people's faces.
deborah,
Get real. I'm asking because you're upset and I wanted to know why. Quit the prima donna act.
deborah, don't be angry - I didn't imply you meant anything by it - I'm just describing the dynamics, and optics, and everything.
Having people tell me what I mean is part of that.
I know what I mean. I'm telling you. Like there is a contradiction between everyone knowing I'm an anti-cultist and either trying to push me to Romney, not understanding why I wouldn't be with Romney, or pretending what I've said about Romney is some bogus, couldn't find it easily on Google, bullshit.
Now, that's not racial, but it is an example of how I'm living in a separate category from the rest of you and how pressure is put on me to change when you KNOW it's impossible.
I'm saying, the same thing has happened over race, as well.
Not by you, deb, but here,...
"Your side chose to obstruct and not cooperate with a health bill."
Wyden-Bennett puts the lie to that claim.
Democratic leadership made the decision to go it alone in 2009. And thus we got the first major piece of social legislation passed on a party-line vote. That's on Reid and Pelosi and Obama at least as much as it is on Republicans.
But hey, don't let the facts get in the way of your argument. It would be a shame for you to start doing that now.

Hey, ST - long time:

But you could say the same about electing a catholic, a protestant, a muslim, an atheist, etc., all of whom have politically ambitious factions.
A guy who spent twenty years sitting in a black liberation church?
Where was the evidence in Romney's record that he advanced Mormonism?
He wouldn't have to. Mormonism would be advanced by having a Mormon President. Mormonism would be taken more seriously. More people would be open to it. Etc.
As I understand it, Crack does not view Mormonism as he does religions like Judaism and Christianity. (Crack, correct me if I'm wrong.)

For the record -- I went to a Catholic school (St Rosa Lima, in Roseville MN) for K through 2nd grade. It was obvious that I didn't fit in, and went to public school after that. Now, if I was suddently POTUS, I would issue a decree that said if any DJ played the song Dancing Queen they would be immediately executed. Does anyone think that it was because of my religious upbring that brought that on?

He wouldn't have to. Mormonism would be advanced by having a Mormon President. Mormonism would be taken more seriously. More people would be open to it. Etc.
Is that really what you think?

That's what opposition to an ill-timed, and totally manufactured post-Trayvon crisis - that will only hurt Republicans and the poor because the Democrats are offering "free" - amounts to.
This argument's never going to work on anyone here. It amounts to claiming we should support national economic deterioration because otherwise we won't win elections.
But America already has a party whose value proposition is voting yourself bigger benefits even at a net cost to all Americans. This means (a) if we were more concerned about winning or being liked than implementing policies beneficial for America we'd already be Democrats, and (b) even if we were to embrace this plan it wouldn't actually result in being elected. Instead Democrats would come up with a new "free stuff" plan and we'd replay the entire process.
No, Amartel, I just don't like you.
Those Mormons are tricky. They worked it out so that no matter what you do. a Mormon is still running things.
Chick, I agree with Freeman. A Mormon pres would raise the profile of Mormonism and essentially legitimize it. Harry Reid is a local character, so his elevation does not impact on the national scene.
Harry Reid is a local character, so his elevation does not impact on the national scene.
This is true. Most Americans don't know which religion any politician belongs to, other than the President.
@freeman & deborah: Wow! Now I get your concern about Scalia. Would you have had the same concern for JFK? Would it have been a deal breaker for you at that time?
A Mormon pres would raise the profile of Mormonism and essentially legitimize it.
What is illegitimate about the Mormon religion? I mean what makes it any less legitimate than Zoroastrianism, Muslimism, Bhuddism, Christianity and the various permutations of Christianity (of which there is still the debate that Mormonism should be a sub set)
I mean...I know not much about Mormonism or many of the inner workings of many other religions.
Why should we be less tolerant or accepting of the existence of Mormons than any other made up religious belief. Personally, I think they are all made up and that people can believe what they like, including not believing in anything.
Why is it OK to persecute and denigrate Mormons, but Muslims are sacrosanct.
"No, Amartel, I just don't like you."
YOU ARE NOT MACHO AND THIS IS NOT A RESPONSE.
PUSSY.
...gotta run but I'll be back to look for your answers.
Freeman Hunt,
As I understand it, Crack does not view Mormonism as he does religions like Judaism and Christianity. (Crack, correct me if I'm wrong.)
Nope. I am an atheist with "God children," and that was done in churches at the parent's request, and I spent Christmas with a Jewish family at a Chinese restaurant not too far back. No problem.
Jews know all about cultism, after the Holocaust. They've never questioned a word I've said on the topic, but helped enlighten me, sometimes, to how it can work. Evangelical Christians usally get it, but they think it's literal rather than just what people believe. There are distinctions.
There is a point there. Obama becoming President made socialism and race baiting much more acceptable.
Icepick,
That's rich, when you keep telling people that didn't like Romney that Romney was THEIR candidate, even when they tell you otherwise.
You voted for him, you own him, asshole.
You're a fucking joke, Crack. You can't tell us what the Republicans should do in a positive direction, other than give in to every single thing the Democrats ask for.
And that's why I don't talk to people like you - because telling you, you fucked up here, gets translated as "give in to every single thing the Democrats ask for" and why would I want to spend my time addressing that foolishness I never said?

Percent of Mormons who kill those who denigrate their religion: 0.0%.
Most people think cults are just another thing people have to avoid as part of life, like Amway. So it's enough that Mormonism tenets not be enacted into law, you're expected to manage the remaining risk youself.
I think phx is probably a pederast rapist whose character assures his soon suicide.
Just like with Anita Hill, we will never really know for sure though, although phx has written of driving very, very slowly through school zones...
"Jem, see if you can stand in Bob Ewell’s shoes a minute. I destroyed his last shred of credibility at that trial, if he had any to begin with. The man had to have some kind of comeback, his kind always does. So if spitting in my face and threatening me saved Mayella Ewell one extra beating, that’s something I’ll gladly take. He had to take it out on somebody and I’d rather it be me than that houseful of children out there...."

Methadras,
Freeman, he took a racial turn.
And you don't understand what The Macho RESPONSE means in the context of this crowd, right?
Oh, I get what the Macho response is in the context of what you are doing right now, but I'm not the one impugning people for the sake of making a point. At least not in this context.
What? You need me to throw you a rope? When I was a leftist in my younger days, I used to think that I was alone in my particular thought processes and if anyone challenged me, why they were the idiots. I'm getting that same sense going on here. I don't have a particular magic wand on what would fix these issues, but if you think you are getting ganged on as the lone voice in the wilderness crying out for validation or protection, then I don't know if I'm the guy that can help you.
Like I told Freeman, I get what you are saying, I'm just not buying it. The fact of the matter is, is I'd prefer a mushy moderate like Romney, magic underpants and all, over a radical marxist america hating leftist like Urkel and if you think that a mormon is more 'eeeee-vil' vs. a black liberation theologist with the kind of upbringing he's had, well, then maybe your perceptions are skewed a little.
So Harry Reid gets his own planet too? Damn, that place will suck.
Major.
Harry Reid's planet is not so much a planet as it is a black hole.
and I spent Christmas with a Jewish family at a Chinese restaurant
No shit? Unfuckingbelieveable!
LOL!

That's a religion anyone can hang their head in. er, hat on. oh wait.
With the ascension of a Mormon President, Mormons would have totally co-opted free will, or something like that.
And
Once you're a Mormon, YOU CAN NEVER LEAVE!!/sarc off
Seriously, have you ever talked to someone who left the Mormon Church? You write a letter to Church headquarters in SLC asking them to remove your name from their records. They send you a form and a pamphlet that says, "Are you sure this is what you want to do? We love you." You fill out the form, mail it back. Voila!
Truly cultish.
Marshal,
This argument's never going to work on anyone here. It amounts to claiming we should support national economic deterioration because otherwise we won't win elections.
No, it means we have to be careful how we tread because, with this law, we're already on the down slope - for now, it is law. The idea I'm suggesting rolling over because we fucked up is the complete opposite of what I think. I just don't want to be stupid about it when we're losing.
America already has a party whose value proposition is voting yourself bigger benefits even at a net cost to all Americans. This means (a) if we were more concerned about winning or being liked than implementing policies beneficial for America we'd already be Democrats, and (b) even if we were to embrace this plan it wouldn't actually result in being elected. If we're stupid, yep, that's exactly what'll happen. So why replay it? Remember, I've never been about playing these games you guys are into - my specialty's the spiritual realm.
For the third time, how, for instance, a Pat Robertson can be turned into a laughingstock when Oprah walks freely as a national icon, after all the crazy shit she's said, is my question. There's all this low-hanging fruit, that actually supports the tree, and you guys are all like "They're harmless" and getting your butts kicked by their political heroes. Oprah was part of a personality cult for Obama? Really? Yeah, really, stupid.
I ain't giving up shit,...
Chick, this is in the context of Crack's argument. You asked for evidence of Romney having advanced it in the past. We're saying he would advance it merely by being president.
deborah, are you suggesting that Harry Reid is advancing Mormanism simply because of his position?
If not, why one, but not the other?
I'm curious as to what you think.
Allen, Reid is not nationally noticed on account of who or what he is. That he's a Mormon was known by his state. On the national scene the average person only knows he's the Senate majority leader. A president is a star. Everything is known about him...well except when it's hushed up by the media. A Mormon president would usher Mormonism into a new light.
Disclaimer: I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing, compared to Judeo-Christianity. I'm just saying Crack is right it would raise Mormonism's profile.
I think we need to consider that Mormonism was begun with a scam. Also, they have a loophole provision that it is ok to lie about their religion if it is convenient.

You say we shouldn't argue against free stuff. The only choices are argue against it or accept it growing.
how, for instance, a Pat Robertson can be turned into a laughingstock when Oprah walks freely as a national icon, after all the crazy shit she's said, is my question.
How did Obama get away with claiming Bush didn't help Katrina victims because they were black while supposedly moderate liberals claim his racial comments aim to bridge differences?
The left controls the media, and Academia conditions the public to accept the media message. This both allows the media to focus two minute hate campaigns on targets of the left's choice and conditions the public to dismiss accusations the left doesn't support. We don't have these weapons.

@deborah :(
The only reason that Reid isn't known nationally as a Morman is because the national media doesn't ever say anything about the fact that he is a Morman.
I have no doubt, that if Reid was a Republican, or, God forbid, a Tea Party member, that's all you would hear was his fucked up religion.
@ AllenS.
Completely agreed.

She's black.
