I'm closing this blog

It has become incrementally clear to me that "free speech" as we once thought we enjoyed, as a right, is on the verge of disappearing.

It's too dangerous for me to continue to endorse this (free-for-all) blog given the "woke" nature of the company employing me. I've chosen to adapt to the new realities as I perceive them.

I'm not going to cite examples of what I'm talking about. Feel free to put them in the comments, if you want. I will be leaving the blog open for a few days, to give you fellas and madams an opportunity to comment, on the comment section, as you see fit.

The best example, if we are to look for one, can be found here in this blog. First I was given the boot by Amazon; they asked me to remove the code bearing their name from this blog. Their email said they found some irregularities with the way the purchases were being conducted. But i believe it was the content of the blog they really had a problem with.

Then Google ads gave me the boot. They were a little more forthcoming. They objected to the content and they said so.

So, that's where we are at. I wish I could promise a return in some not distant future, but my gut tells me these changes going on now have a permanent bent to them. There's no going back.

It has been a pleasure. I will continue to tweet. If you fellas and madams want to follow me i would really appreciate it. I go by lemang01 on twitter. I'm planning on using twitter to keep you informed on the progress i posted about here.

Condoleezza Rice was scheduled to give the 248th anniversary commencement address at Rutgers University this coming Sunday. She canceled after a small knot of protesters pressured the university. It’s no contest who showed more class.

Near as I can tell, the forces of intolerance objected to her role in the Iraq war. O.K. And by shutting her down, the point is ... what? That extremism, whether in the climate-denial echo chamber of Republican Party elites or in the fragile zone of college faculty lounges, is the worst enemy of free speech.

Thanks to the bigots, Smith College graduates will be deprived of the thoughts of Christine Lagarde, chief of the International Monetary Fund. She withdrew this week, under pressure from people who object to the I.M.F.’s role in the “strengthening of imperialist and patriarchal systems.” So, one of the world’s most powerful women will not share insights with one of the nation’s most prominent women’s colleges because of a concern about patriarchy. Evil men — that’ll show ’em.

This was followed by the swift departure of Robert J. Birgeneau, a former chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley, as a speaker at Haverford College. Yes, you heard that right: The man from Berkeley is not suitable for the sensitive souls of Haverford.

For guidance, these censors could have consulted the Rutgers student mission statement. “We embrace difference by cultivating inclusiveness and respect of both people and points of view.” Diversity of perspective? Thy name should be academia. But of late, too many schools are opting for well-vetted bores. Pursue your dream, live your own life, don’t forget to floss or use sunscreen, and if you’re forced to share a hall with people you don’t like, shout them down and kick them out the door. It turns out that Eich (Mozilla's CEO) might have saved his job had he recanted, like all heretics must. But given the choice of recanting, he failed. Hence the lighting of the fires:

Throughout the interviews, it was not hard to get the sense that Eich (Mozilla's CEO) really wanted to stick strongly by his views about gay marriage, which run counter to much of the tech industry and, increasingly, the general population in the U.S. For example, he repeatedly declined to answer when asked if he would donate to a similar initiative today.

He did not understand that in order to be a CEO of a company, you have to renounce your heresy! There is only one permissible opinion at Mozilla, and all dissidents must be purged! Yep, that’s left-liberal tolerance in a nut-shell...

This is a repugnantly illiberal sentiment. It is also unbelievably stupid for the gay rights movement. You want to squander the real gains we have made by argument and engagement by becoming just as intolerant of others’ views as the Christianists? You’ve just found a great way to do this. It’s a bad, self-inflicted blow. And all of us will come to regret it.
