Missing woman found ‘chained like a dog’ in storage container

A woman was found “chained like a dog” at a South Carolina home Thursday where she had been held captive after vanishing without a trace in August with her boyfriend.

Police say Kala Brown, 30, was found inside a metal storage container when they rescued her, according to news station WYFF. Brown told authorities she had been inside the container for two months, and that there were as many as four other people at the property in Woodruff, South Carolina.

AP:  The law took effect Wednesday with the Republican governor's signature. The only exceptions are if the mother's life is in jeopardy or a doctor determines the fetus can't survive outside the womb.

These bans are now in effect in 13 states and blocked by court challenges in three other. South Dakota's ban takes effect July 1.

Trump wins South Carolina

Trump won by a lot but the gap is closing. Rubio just ahead of Cruz this time.

Bush bows out in one of the classiest performances to be seen of the season. Reminding me that whatever and all else I don't care for about them, they really are a graceful patrician family.

Powerful as it is, my mind still wandered. I was thinking, those baseboards sure are clean. I used dishwasher soap to make the water slippery and you should have seen the dirt that came up. Oi. Now they shine. I got all the way around the spots that never get touched even to the end through the laundry where lint collects in there. Just thinking that took a minute and by then the video had ended. But it sure sounded powerful.

Leroy Smith said in a statement that the photo, taken at a Ku Klux Klan rally, captured “who we are in South Carolina” and represents what law enforcement is all about: helping people “regardless of the person’s skin color, nationality or beliefs”.

“I consider myself like every other officer who was out there braving the heat on Saturday to preserve and protect,” he said.

"S.C. police officer charged in fatal shooting"

"A white North Charleston, S.C., police officer was charged with shooting and killing an apparently unarmed black man during a traffic stop after a video of the confrontation surfaced, authorities said Tuesday."...

A video that shows a North Charleston police officer shooting at [Walter] Scott's back at least eight times as he ran away led to the arrest Tuesday, Police Chief Eddie Driggers said.

"Where would we be without that video?'' said Justin Bamberg, an attorney for Scott's family, expressing relief that charges were filed four days after Scott was shot to death Saturday morning...

Appearing before cameras Tuesday night, Anthony Scott, brother of the dead man, said the family was pleased that the truth was coming out as a result of the video's release.

"I think through the process we have received the truth. We can't get my brother back, and my family is in deep mourning.... But through the process, justice has been served,'' Anthony Scott said. "I don't think that all police officers are bad cops, but there are some bad ones out there. I don't want to see anyone get shot down the way my brother got shot down.''

Walter Scott spent two years in the Coast Guard, had four children and was outgoing and loving, Anthony Scott said. "He was the most outgoing out of all of us," the brother said. "He was well known in the community."
