Citing beating of officer, Chicago's top cop says police are 'second-guessing themselves'

Chicago’s top cop said Thursday one of his officers was seriously beaten at an accident scene because the national focus on police shootings has caused officers to second-guess themselves.

Superintendent Eddie Johnson said the patrol officer told him she did not use her gun to defend herself for fear of a backlash.  "She didn’t want her family or the department to go through the scrutiny the next day on national news," he said.

The injured officer, a 17-year Chicago police veteran, got into a struggle with a man who allegedly was high on PCP after she stopped at a crash scene in the Austin community on the West Side on Wednesday morning.

The suspect smashed the officer's face into the pavement repeatedly until she was unconscious, police said.

“As I was at the hospital last night, visiting with her, she looked at me and said she thought she was gonna die, and she knew that she should shoot this guy, but she chose not to because she didn’t want her family or the department to go through the scrutiny the next day on national news,” Johnson said while attending a public ceremony honoring heroic officers and firefighters.

Frustrated, armed with ropes, activist group plans to pull down Andrew Jackson Monument.

A New Orleans activist group is threatening to pull down the city's most recognizable statue in response to what members claim are unreasonable delays in removing four other monuments honoring Confederate leaders and a 19th century white supremacist militia.

Take 'Em Down NOLA says it will attempt to topple the statue of Andrew Jackson during a protest later this month in Jackson Square. Legal delays have kept the other statues -- honoring Confederate President Jefferson Davis, Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and P.G.T. Beauregard, and a militia known as the White League -- standing nine months after the City Council authorized their removal.  

"We're going to go to Jackson Square. We're going to put ropes around Andrew Jackson and we're going to take him down off his pedestal," Take 'Em Down organizer and longtime civil rights activist Malcolm Suber said during a forum the group held Thursday.

The demonstration, scheduled for Sept. 24, will come a few days before judges on the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals are scheduled to hear arguments over whether to lift an order that halted the removal of the monuments.

"The key is we're not going to wait," Take 'Em Down organizer Angela Kinlaw said. "The city has taken plenty of time to make a decision. But the people are ready to move."

Pope Hails Election of Sadiq Kahn, Celebrates Mass Muslim Migration In to Europe

The Pope has hailed the election of Sadiq Khan as “Muslim” mayor of London, claimed mass Muslim migration is “necessary” for Europe, and blamed Paris and Brussels for the attacks on European soil.

In an interview with French newspaper  La Croix, Pope Francis strongly implied that the terrorists who attacked Paris and Brussels did so because they “grew up in a ghetto.”

He also applauded the election of Muslim mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, stating it “illustrates the need for Europe to rediscover its capacity to integrate,” evoking “Pope Gregory the Great, who negotiated with the people known as barbarians who were subsequently integrated.”

The Pope says that Donald Trump is not a "good Christian."

Pope Francis continue tend his flock by informing them that Donald Trump is not a "Christian." While celebrating illegal immigration in a Mass at the border between Mexico and the United States "the pope was asked specifically about comments Trump made about the Pope’s visit to the Mexico border." The Popes response:

"A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not of building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the Gospel. As far as what you said about whether I would advise to vote or not to vote, I am not getting involved in that. I say only this man is not Christian if he has said things like that.'

Thankfully the Pope did not tell Catholics how to vote. I mean he will not tell them not to vote for politicians who promote and legalize abortion or force nuns to buy contraception. Why would he do that? It is not like that is against the teachings of the church and would protect innocent human life or something. He knows that it would not be right to try to influence the political process in such a direct and heavy handed manner. So at least he did not try to directly influence the election to support illegal immigration and the mass invasion of America. He just wanted to label Donald Trump. He had famously said "Who am I to judge?" I guess if the Donald was a sword swallower who wanted to marry a dude he would be off limits.

On Thursday’s “CNN Newsroom,” comedian W. Kamau Bell argued white people needed to “handle Donald Trump.” He further described Trump as “the pinnacle of white privilege and white supremacy meeting in one place.”

Bell said, “White people, you’ve created race and then off of race, off the back of race, you created racism, and everybody has a racial category, except white people seem to not claim their racial category, which sucks because you’re most of the racial category in this country. And so I consider it my job to handle Ben Carson, Raven-Symoné, random black people on the Internet. It’s your job to handle Donald Trump.”
