NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick explains why he sat during national anthem

"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game. "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."

The 49ers issued a statement about Kaepernick's decision: "The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony. It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens. In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expression, we recognize the right of an individual to choose and participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem."

Is he using protest to deflect from his performance on the field? A way of possibly coercing his team into not releasing him, perhaps? Me thinks thou are insincere.

"Woman Robs Wyoming Bank To Go Back To Prison"

AP:  FBI Special Agent Tory Smith said in court documents that Thompson entered a US Bank branch in Cheyenne and handed a teller a cardboard note that said, “I have a gun. Give me all your money.”

The teller turned over thousands of dollars.

Outside, Thompson threw money into the air and even offered some to people passing by, Smith stated. He added that Cheyenne police Lt. Nathan Busek said he found Thompson with a large sum of money when he arrived at the bank.

“Lt. Busek asked Thompson what was going on, and Thompson replied, ‘I just robbed the bank, I want to go back to prison,'” Smith wrote.

While some have made the case that Kim Kardashian and her friend Emily Ratajkowski have made boobs boring, breasts are in fact so potent that they may be hastening our decline. Breasts and female nudity have always been eye-catching to positively distracting, depending on your sex. The sheer boobitude immediately available either through online porn, Kardashian’s Twitter feed, and Tinder (otherwise known as Uber for boobs) has rapidly accelerated to the point that men have stopped creating because there’s so few obstacles to seeing them.

Perhaps you scoff and say highbrow Western art since the middle ages has featured images and imagery of the female breast. That may just be the point. They had to undertake significant effort to present images of the female breast, as opposed to a Tumblr of boobs or the www.giant.woowwwzz.com that is available in one click. Further, take note that the prime age for invention used to be one’s early twenties; often, scientists and other folks were not as productive in later decades.

Now, that is often not the case: “There’s a boom in inventions by people over 50,” John Calvert, executive director of the United Inventors Association, told the New York Times. “Over 60 percent of the association’s members are older, he added, so they also have more time for inventing.”

Fire-Walking Event Gone Bad

Dallas:  Dozens of people were burned Thursday night after walking over hot coals at a Tony Robbins motivational seminar in Dallas, and at least five of those hurt had to be hospitalized, officials said....

Robbins isn’t speaking publically about what might have gone wrong, but his organization, Robbins Research International, issued a statement that said, in part:

“In Dallas tonight, someone not familiar with the fire walk observed the event and called 911 erroneously reporting hundreds of people requiring medical attention for severe burns. While we are grateful to the quick and robust response from Dallas emergency services, only 5 of 7,000 participants requested any examination beyond what was readily available on site.  We are pleased to have completed another successful fire walk for 7,000 guests and look forward to the remainder of an outstanding weekend with them.”

People who have participated in previous fire walks at Tony Robbins events say it isn’t unusual for there to be some injuries. “From a numbers perspective that amount is negligible,” said fire walk participant Tish Bazil. “I don’t mean to diminish anything that’s happened to anybody, but there are some coaching techniques, really specific strategies, that he gives people.” (Link for more)

"Keep yourself busy for a better chance of getting things done"

"People with a full schedule gain momentum and bounce back faster from missed deadlines."

If you want something done ask a busy person, goes the adage, but research suggests that this might well be true.

The busier you are, the more likely you are to complete tasks, particularly those whose deadlines have been missed, found Keith Wilcox of Columbia University and his team. Getting behind is demoralising, but Professor Wilcox discovered that busier people are better at bouncing back from a missed deadline and are more likely to get the task done — and more quickly. The theory is that while you may have missed one deadline, with other tasks completed and with others on the go, you feel that you are still winning the productivity war.

“Our research shows that being busy is one way to reduce the sense of failure,” he says.

According to the study, keeping yourself and your staff busy is a simple way to continue getting things done, even when deadlines have been missed. Rather than giving yourself or others more to do, you should instead break down larger tasks into smaller ones. This will make you feel busier without increasing your workload. But make sure you are busy with productive tasks and not simply those that occupy time, says Prof Wilcox. (more)

New Orleans principal pays outstanding students cash

At Edna Karr High School, Principal Harold Clay believes that a little change can go a long way. It’s his belief that academics are the real key to success and he annually awards cash prizes to kids who excel in the classroom.

Friday, was no exception. Clay handed out $100 bills to 33 students who had GPAs of 4.0 or higher. “When kids are focused on iPhones and Jordans, I’m saying to focus on your education and I’m going to compensate you for it.”

The message seems to have gotten across to many of those who were honored Friday.

“If you work hard in the class room someone is going to take notice, someone’s going to take heed of what you’re doing” said Karr senior Korey Finnie.

The highest achievers weren’t the only winners of the day. Nearly 400 Karr students were honored for having GPA of at least 3.5. Some were even given sports style varsity jackets and patches. “Last year I didn’t get one and I was pretty mad about It and this year I worked really hard to get it because I really wanted one” said Karr student Eyrie Toliver.

Principal Clay says he wants academics to be honored the same way as if you achieve on the basketball court so for a big time basketball player they have a signing day.
