This is where I came in

My first post here (assigned by Lem) was "We are all Trayvon." Come to find out recently there were glaring inconsistencies everywhere. The tl;dw of this video, by the self-styled black guys at Bloggingheads, is Rachel Jeantel was not the real girlfriend of Trayvon. In this video, and/or the one that follows it up, Loury and McWhorter bring out obvious things missed or overlooked at the time; Rachel Jeantel could not read a letter she had supposedly written to Trayvon because it was in cursive; Trayvon 6'3" tall, and Zimmerman was short; etc. Glad the jury was on the case.

What if al-Assad had a son that looked like Trayvon?

In the previous thread, I noticed many of you didn't offer arguments in the way of help to our president. Who, many say has box himself into a corner and it now appears that our adversaries, Russia and China are poised to take advantage of his apparent ineptitude. Despite how he got where he finds himself, however, I want to remind you, Obama still our president.

Now, I know what you might think or say.
Lem, how can you ask us to help Obama when we are squarely opposed to him politically?

This is what I ask. Lets put aside our political differences and come together in the spirit of lending, giving our president some of our wisdom, if not experience, working/managing ourselves out of tight corners.

Are there any experts here in Syrian citizenship by way of Hawaii?

You remember how clear headed and resolute the president appeared, at this press conference when he said...

"You know, if I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon," Obama said. "All of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves."

Can anything be more serious than launching our country into yet another war?

"Obviously, this is a tragedy. I can only imagine what these parents are going through," Obama said. "All of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how something like this has happened."

If al-Assad had a son that looked like Trayvon, maybe our president would reconsider going after the father of that son with missiles and bombs. I'm just thinking aloud here, just like secretary Kerry, who btw, also served in Vietnam.

Let's go back and see where Obama has performed up to his presidential prerogatives and see if a concrete connection can be made, where it would help our president find his way out the "muddle" he put himself in. Lets help president Obama find "his own words".

We Are All Trayvon

In her 7/20/13 post, "At the Trayvon "rallies"---"Hundreds gathered in Los Angeles, San Francisco and other California cities Saturday morning," Ann Althouse reports, "At the Miami rally, Trayvon Martin's father spoke, and the NYT describes the crowd as "dozens of people.""

250 miles away in Sanford, FL, where George Zimmerman had been forced to shoot Trayvon Martin, the protests that police and journalists had been anticipating failed to materialize. According to the NYT:

As protests over the verdict unfolded across the country, it became clear in Sanford that the widely forecast unrest was unlikely to come to pass. "We might be angry about the verdict," said Larry Williams, 55, as he sat in the air-conditioned chill of his friend's barbershop in Goldsboro on Monday. "But why go out and do anything you would not want to do?"

So, on Monday, people carried on, some with heavier hearts than others. Shauna Rollf, 24, who works at the Taste of Thyme Cafe, said business was lighter than normal because Sanford residents were avoiding all the reporters and camera crews prowling through downtown. Like others, she was awaiting the day the news media swarm left. "I think everybody's kind of exhausted," she said.

A few blocks away, a dozen pastors, city officials and perhaps a hundred residents, black and white, filed into the New Life Word Center Church for a noontime prayer service. They prayed for peace and racial reconciliation, and they prayed for the Zimmerman and Martin families. "God, we realize there is no winner in this situation," one pastor said, as those gathered raised their hands heavenward, crying out, "That's right."

The new police chief, Cecil E. Smith, also spoke from the altar, praising the town. "Everybody wants us to go out and act up," he said. "We are peaceful in the middle of an issue that has divided our country."

Meanwhile, in NYC, "[a]s the crowds of thousands shouted, "We're all Trayvon Martin,"" the Rev. Al Sharpton "announced a plan to hold a protest in the capital in August to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech," and also added, "We're going to keep the focus on the Justice Department because Trayvon Martin had the civil right to go home that day," and "We cannot have a society where any one of our children can be taken based on someone feeling they had the right to stand their ground. Well, what about Trayvon's right to stand his ground? And what about our right to stand our ground?"

Between the vale of the grieving father, attended by dozens, and the mountaintop upon which the Rev. Al Sharpton basked in the glow of thousands, there lies a vast inconsistency.    

In the Catholic Church, even the unbaptized are permitted to perform emergency baptisms if done so with required intention; for the baptizer is merely the conduit of grace. Regardless of our opinions of Rev. Sharpton, let us hope that at the capital in August he will be an instrument of grace toward the realization of, as President Obama recently said, "...becoming a more perfect union--not a perfect union, but a more perfect union."

When Protected Groups are left Unprotected

Althouse noticed an inconvenient revelation in Rachel Jeantel's testimony, 3 weeks ago, when Rachel Jeantel (of 'creepy ass-cracker' fame) testified at the George Zimmerman trial.
An inconvenient revelation to the people that pushed for the trial.... mind-you.  

Last night on CNN's Piers Morgan, Althouse heard it again and says she was reluctant to talk about it : "I told you this 3 weeks ago, but Drudge flashes it today: Rachel Jeantel says she warned Trayvon Martin that Zimmerman could be a gay rapist."

I do remember that.

 

It turns out that it may have been Zimmerman, and not Trayvon Martin, that was profiled (Profiled mind-you) the night of the shooting, if Rachel Jeantel is to be believed. And that's a big IF, ladies and gentleman of the jury. Some reports said the prosecution had a hard time pinning her down on what exactly she had told Trayvon Martin over the phone, just before the shooting.

 

My question is, what do the leaders of a protected group say, when members of another protected group bashes them, in the name of defending the right to protect themselves?

 

Rush Limbaugh wondered something similar.

I thought, when I heard this last night, that that's all anybody'd be talking about today, because this throws this thing 180 degrees out of phase.  So now Trayvon Martin, who is the recipient of full-fledged, 100% victim status? It turns out could well be a gay basher, and the left has been defending him.  So what do they do?  They have two interest groups here that they represent and champion: African-Americans and homosexuals, and in this incident, the object of their affection (in this case, Trayvon Martin), might have thought he was being pursued by a gay guy and beat him up, or tried to.

The answer to my question is - nothing.... don't mind anybody.

"(CNN) -- George Zimmerman never denied shooting Trayvon Martin, but he said he did so in self defense. Late Saturday night, a Florida jury found him not guilty in the teenager's death.

The verdict caps a case that has inflamed passions for well over a year, much of it focused on race.

The six jurors -- all of them women -- deliberated for 16½ hours. Five of the women are white; one is a minority.

When he heard his fate, Zimmerman had little visible reaction. He turned and shook the hand of one of his attorneys before sitting back down, smiling only after court was adjourned."
