What's my favorite charity? Bertha Williamson!

Do you know what a chucker is? Nothing to do with polo or any of that bullshit. It is a basketball player who shoots as soon as he touches the ball. He never passes even if his teammate is alone under the basket. He could be covered by three or four guys and he will still chuck it up.

One of the biggest chukkers of all time was Super John Williamson of the ABA's New York Nets. Which was hard to be since he played with Dr J when they won the ABA championship.

That's not the reason I remember him though. You see the Long Island Nets had a radio promotion in the 1970's. They would interview the star of the game and after the interview they would give $100 to the player's favorite charity. Mike DiTomasso goes to Super John "As the Gillete Star of the game Super John we are goning to donate $100 to your favorite charity. Who would that be?" "Yo you wants to know who be my favorite charity?" "Yes." "Bertha Williamson."

Bertha was Super John's wife.

So whenever anyone asks me who my favorite charity is I always reply "Bertha Williamson."

Never fails to totally confuse everyone.

RIP Elgin Baylor....gone but not forgoten

One of the all time great basketball players the LA Lakers Elgin Baylor has passed today. He was one of the last undersized forwards to play in the NBA as taller players began to dominate. He was silky smooth with his jumper and going to the hole. Just look at the highlights. He doesn't force it to dunk all the time or set up for a 3 pointer on every play. He got inside and got his shot.

I remember seeing him in 1968 at the Garden in one of the first games I ever went to back in the day.
Jerry West. Wilt. Keith Erickson. Elgin. The Lakers and the Knicks. It didn't get any better than that.

Disorder in the Court!

Charles Oakley was tossed from the Garden and now he is banned for life. He went to the game and bought a ticket near the owner. Of course he was heckling and trash talking him because he feels the Knicks have screwed him over. That they should favortism  to pussies like Allen Houston who became a team executive.  Oakley was on the team for ten years and they made the playoffs every year. I was a big fan of him and Anthony Mason and the style of ball they played. I  will never forget the elbow at Mitchell Wiggins and made him cry and pee his pants.

Think again there buddy

So I walk into the bank down the block yesterday to make some checks. There are these two sharped dressed dudes waiting for the manager.  I am immersed in my own affairs and don't pay too much attention. Just enough the way you always do in the city. You want to be sure they aren't going to start shooting.

These mooks were there to promote Brooklyn Nets Basketball. I guess they picked Chase because every single employee is black. I don't know how that happened. Well I do know how that happened but waddayagonna do? The had a token Italian guy for a while to talk to the old timers who still had money in the bank but that ended three years ago.

Anyway these guys were peddling tickets to the Nets. They were trying to sell season packages and as a come on were offering floor seats for $50. I thought nothing of it and finished my transactions (after the usual endless difficulties).

NBA is no longer recognizable as an American Sport.

Anthem singer kneels during her performance at Heat game

  New York Post

MIAMI — A woman performing the national anthem before an NBA preseason game in Miami on Friday night did so while kneeling at midcourt, and opening her jacket to show a shirt with the phrase “Black Lives Matter.”
The singer was identified by the Heat as Denasia Lawrence. It was unclear if she remained in the arena after the performance, and messages left for her were not immediately returned.

The NBA is dead to me

I had New York Knicks tickets for about twenty one years. I went to on average three games a week. But never again. I won't even watch it anymore.

The NBA has become the politically correct haven of Anti-Americanism that is just not something that I can support ever again. The recent appearance of NBA Stars on ESPN to pimp Black Lives Matters after the deaths of the police officers in Dallas was the last straw for me.

I did not see the live broadcast as I boycott ESPN after what they did to Curt Schilling. Which is rich because I hate the mo who is endlessly praised because he had his menstrual blood on his sock when he pitched against the Yankees. But he still has the right to voice his personal opinions off the air without getting fired.
