KLEM FM

This post was inspired by Dust Bunny Queen, who elsewhere expressed an interest in the mobile life style. So I was going to post the original song, but realized that I'd already done that back here. Listening again, I wished to more clearly hear bassist John Entwhistle. I found this brilliant version with the vocals and guitars factored out. It's just Moon and Entwhistle -- the two on the right in the photo.

Years ago, I remarked that The Who and The Beatles were missing complimentary pieces, meaning that Moon and Entwhistle were sort of like the remaining two Beatles, Paul and Ringo. Ron, the commenter, suggested that the remaining 4 should get together and call themselves The Whotles: Paul, Ringo, Pete, and Roger.

The Forty Year Rule

Overheard at Lem's:
Ron said...

I wonder if the '60s interest is due to it being 50 years since the war....like how we talked about the "Greatest Generation" of WWII in the '90s.

I've heard of a so-called "40 year rule" from a video I linked to back here: Lindsay Ellis (Nostalgia Chick) said that a generation will get culturally obsessed with the generation 40 years prior to it -- just recent enough to be in living memory, but just long enough that it can be romanticized.

Hmmm, where does that leave us? A mid-1970's revival? But if Ron is correct, we're overdue for a 1960's nostalgia trip.

How would that play out in pop culture?

The Real Tragedy In Flint*

Every Democrat in the country is calling for Gov. Snyder’s head and blaming it on the Republican governor and his emergency financial manager law. And not only are they ignoring the guys in the black hats who actually caused the problem, they’re really ignoring the victims. Worse, they’re using them as a tool to gain a political advantage. And that’s [an] even larger tragedy.
That’s not what Flint’s children need right now. People need to focus on them, and not on their hatred of all things Republican. Read the whole thing
That is from the best piece yet that I've read about the Flint tragedy. It's still a little early for the science and technical journals like Chemical & Engineering News to have weighed in. I did wade into the comments over there at the link, trying to correct an over-zealous commenter regarding the oxidation states of lead.

The Man Who First Galvanized The World Was...

...Luigi Galvani!  In 1771, he discovered that frog's legs twitched when touched by static electricity. This in turn galvanized a young gal by the name of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. The rest is history.
