Salami....Salami....Baloney!

What Bugs Bunny used to say when he met a big shot when he was dressed as an Indian Swami.

In an article in the New York Post it was announced that a salmonella outbreak has hit 17 states due to "Italian meats" that were infected

“Italian-style meats include salami, prosciutto and other meats that can often be found in antipasto or charcuterie assortments. Heating food to a high enough temperature helps kill germs like Salmonella,”

They recommend heating the meat to a temperature of 165 degrees or until they are steaming hot. Which would most likely ruin the meat but what do they care. I eat this type of meat every day and have not had any bad side effects. I think it is the typical nonsense purveyed by the government I bet they want you to wear a mask when you are eating a salami sandwich.

However that is not the truly disturbing news in this article. "This past May, the CDC warned poultry farmers to stop hugging their chickens as it led to a salmonella outbreak. Don’t kiss or snuggle backyard poultry, and don’t eat or drink around them,” the CDC explained at the time. This can spread Salmonella germs to your mouth and make you sick.”

Rh Hardin hardest hit.

I love food!

Sixty Grit said "I hate food."

That's the most Protestant thing I think I ever heard. Yes Sixty is salt of the earth Scots Irish. The stock that built this country. Dining on beans and weevil biscuits and the occasional squirrel. The Irish who came next were no better. They didn't like to eat. They preferred to drink. It was only when the Guineas and the Greeks and the Polacks and the Jews came over did America start to eat. No more passenger pigeons and occasional rodents. Instead it was brisket and veal parm and pirogues.

Food is life. You have to enjoy your food and revel in its life affirming goodness.

Above is the gluten free lasagna that I made on Monday night. I found these great gluten free noodles that are superb. So good that my ultra picky mother in law came back for thirds.

This is what you are missing out on buddy.

A movie to watch tonight......Feast Of The Seven Fishes

A little late but the perfect holiday movie. It was a real nostalgia trip for me. It's all about an Italian family preparing the Feast of the Seven Fishes. They were workers in the coal mines in Penns but it is just like the longshoreman in Brooklyn. It hits all the right notes.

Check it out I know you will like it.

I missed the feast of San Genaro so I made sausage and peppers on the grill at home.

So a local parish is having a San Genaro feast this past weekend and we thought we might go. Now it will not be like the old fashioned feasts I remember from when I was a kid. They might have a few sausage and peppers and zeppole carts but a lot of the old stands will be missing.

You won't have the gold fish bowls where you threw a ping pong ball into the bowl and you got a goldfish in a plastic bag in water. You would run home and put it in the macaroni pot with tap water and wake up the next day to see it floating dead on the top of the water. It gave a young child a glimpse into how fleeting life could be.

The won't have the casino games like roulette and blackjack that church would be running in the back room with the suspiciously high buy in that wiseguys in the neighborhood would run. That's a thing of the past.

We decided not to go because there is not anything Lisa can eat and not anything I am allowed to eat. So we decided to stay home and I grilled a sausage ring with parsley and cheese, I fried up some onions and garlic and added some roasted peppers. Then I took the sausage ring off the grill and cut them up and put them in the pan to adsorb some flavor.

We enjoyed it and best of all it is gluten free.

Now I am feast free.

I missed you ...sorta

So I sorta missed youse guys because I haven't been on the internet much these last few months. Various reasons. Health. Being busy doing other stuff like trying to write. Mostly I have been idling away my time on my phone. Most of the time I am doing Instagram.
