New post, old times

A friend of a friend rehomed her cat to my house - she is my new old cat.

MamaM's post has inspired me to write a post that I have been thinking about for a while. This blog has been part of my life for longer than I can remember and I have encountered some remarkable folks here.

First and foremost, the late, great Chip Ahoy. He has been gone for years now but his work, both here and IRL, sticks with me. He was as creative and productive a human as I have ever encountered. When his brother posthumously posted links to works Chip had not posted here I was blown away - what a wide range of interests and what a remarkable set of skills he had. I am sure he is greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Next, of course, The Trooper - now there is a guy who has been shouldering a mighty load here. He needs to pop up and post more of his writing, and I am sure he will in his own good time. I want to know how some of those stories turn out!

The other day I read about two new super heavy elements - 119 and 120 - ununennium and unbinilium respectively. I would have named the latter unobtainium, but that name is already taken. That story reminded me of our resident chemist and grammar genius, Chicklit. I miss his writing and I hope he is doing well with his new venture and in his new location. Every time I saw some aromatic White Oak or apply some Waterlox to a finished product I am reminded of him.

Evi L. Bloggerlady, the floofy red cow who got his name from the sobriquet that Trooper applied to a certain communist blogger still comments and blogs. He's a funny guy.

Various commenters here have popped up on other sites - I used to see RicPic's comments over at Instapundit, but I haven't seen his name over there in a year. Michael Haz still shows up occasionally, which is good. The woman from Colorado who is now known as Hunter'sHooker still comments over there - she's pretty funny.

Others have disappeared into the ether of the internet. TT Burnett - gone. The woodworker up in Maine, no trace of him.

And so it goes with life.

One of my classmates just returned from a visit to Minnesota and she brought me some wild rice that is produced up in Bemidji - guess what I am having for supper!

*Update - I forgot to mention that I have now met two people associated with this blog in real life - as you might imagine, they are awesome people. Carry on!

KLEM AM

Overheard at Lem's:

I do not use the term [cuckservative] because the alt right uses it in the context of a black man screwing a white woman (while her white nebish husband watches from a closet). It is apparently a popular sub genre in porn.

I once worried about the meaning of The Kingston Trio's lyrics in that 1959 classic:
Well Bob is in the livin' room holdin' hands with Sue
Nicky's at that big front door, vowin' to come on through
Well I'm here in the closet, oh lord what shall I do
We're worried now but we won't be worried long
"Bob" and "Nicky" were Dave Guard's bandmates.

[added] Let's analyze the term "cuckservative" in more detail. Screwing over your own citizens (for whom you took an oath to serve) is like cuckoldry. Aside from the repulsive porn reference, the term is apt. On the other hand, I don't like the one-sided implications of cuckoldry because men cheat on women too--perhaps exemplified by Donald Trump.

EBL: things are definitely getting interesting

Is Donald Trump hiding those fingers because
they are unnaturally short?
"With the polls going in Cruz's favor in Wisconsin, the chances of Donald Trump going into the convention with 1237 delegates got a lot narrower. Trump's campaign seems intent on making errors to ensure this turns out to be the case. Yes of course New York and California still favor Trump, but without the 1237, delegates can start bleeding from the Trump Train after it pulls into Cleveland this summer."

KLEM TV

Heard through the bovine in another thread:
Bovine: "My envy runs deep for that wood pile
You have an exceptionally nice wood shed."
Biker: "People never said that about me when I was younger and single.
That reminded me of a favorite movie called "Cold Comfort Farm":

Any suggestions?

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...
Santorum is not electable as President. Now that said, I agree that Republicans need to pay attention to all the legs of the stool. National Security, Social Conservative and Business...but there is a fourth leg and that is Freedom-libertarian (basic Tea Party principles).

We need a candidate who can articulate all those positions in a manner voters will get. It is really not so hard (the issue is balance).

Cruz is a good man. I agree he was a bit hamfisted in this latest fight--but he did not embarrass himself like that dottering old fool John McCain (who soiled himself). As for Santorum, Cruz did not lose Texas by 17 points.

The Harpoon*

The Harpoon has become a favorite cocktail around our house. Of course we modified it, substituting gin for vodka:

(double this for two)

1½ oz gin
½ oz orange liqueur
¼ oz lime juice
enough cranberry juice to color

Mix and shake over ice.  Pour into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a slice of lime.

The Harpoon is related to the Maggie, but less limey. Also, the Maggie looks different, lacking the socialist red hue.

EBL's Blueberry Pie

Blogger EBL has posted a recipe for blueberry pie with a vodka crust. It looks as tempting as Key Lime Pie
