I might have to join the hair club for men

Not because of vanity. Its for self preservation.

You see I am pretty grey and have been for a long time. I never worried about it much. It was salt and pepper for a long time especially in my gotee. Then a funny thing happened. I started to go really grey. Almost white. Except for a patch right under my nose. So I sort of look like Hitler.

This is a cat that looks like Hitler. There is a funny website that collects photos of all the little kitties that hate the Jews. What am I talking about. Cat's hate everybody.

Still a cat can get away with it. A fat old white guy in a MAGA hat not so much. I ain't gonna shave. I had a gotee for thirty years. So I might have to dye it.

Or just go with it. It is a statement after all.

Are you sure you have a goatee and not a van dyke? Goatees don’t have an upper lip portion. Beatniks wore van dykes.

Did you say van dyke?

Cats hate everybody

Which explains why Hitler only had dogs.

Parking Lot Pete loves me. Unconditionally. He gives me hugs and kisses. weirdo.
Cats are notoriously indifferent, but they can be very sweet and loving.
grateful even.

I had a cat that hated everyone. I would warn visitors "Don't touch that cat!" All the other cats, no problem, pet them at will. Little Beni would hiss and bite and rip everyone in the world to shreds. But he and I bonded. I learned a lot from him. I think it was our identical outlook on humanity that made us inseparable. That little fellow stuck to me like glue. We only had 16 years together and to this day I miss him tremendously.

What does that mean? Whose cat up and died? Is that a line from somewhere?

I feel like I'm falling further and further behind on clues and pertinent cultural references. Maybe that's because I go back to the era when asking if the carpet matched the drapes was the clever thing to do.

Sixty Grit, being a white guy, probably doesn't dance like Mr Bojangles MamaM.

A riff on the old Nitty Gritty Dirt Band song, Mr Bojangles.

We spoke in tears of fifteen years
How his dog and him
They travelled about

His dog up and died
He up and died
After twenty years he still grieves

Is that metaphor from a James Bond movie, originally? Sounds like a Sean Connery wisecrack he'd make to a redhead. Troop would perhaps know, but given his obvious preference for brunettes, perhaps not.

Sixty?

That's a myth: link

Collar and cuffs would be a bit more Bondian, and as for the rest, I always had a good vertical, so another myth bites the dust.

Diamonds Are Forever 1972,

Thanks, Ed. Jill St. John. -- makes sense. My dad took me and my brother to "Diamonds Are Forever" when it came out. I was 12 and I'm pretty sure that joke went over my head.

Thanks for the updates! It didn't translate. Or show up in Google as a close clue. Plus it didn't ring my life bell!

Truth is, past the wash of deep sorrow that comes over me, I don't mourn (in a long lasting way) the cats who've come and gone from my life over the years. I remember them with joy and a shake of my head over their uniqueness and unusual quirks, and end up celebrating them as gifts I miss. Writing my list of the "Ten Good thing about __________" That I put together after their deaths isn't a hardship. But when it comes to grieving the death of a good dog--Oh my! That hole can last for years.

I'm still shaking my head over Mammorex! The "Is it real?" Memorex mention on the other thread was a dog-like clue. Dogs are always in the "Is it?" "Is it?" hopeful mode of inquiry. Mammorex was cat paw quick! We had a cat live with us that was part tiger, and one of his best feats involved leaping five feet straight up in the air from a bed, to whack at a flying bat and bring it down! That made the list of memorable good things and still brings a laugh of wonder to this day!
