"NYC Council wants to decriminalize low level crimes"

"Before a crowd at the National Action Network in Harlem, New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito says some simple crimes like drinking alcohol in public, or urinating in the street should be handled more like parking violations."
"We are examining way in which we can expand the use of summons and desk appearance tickets” she said.

Reverend Al Sharpton says over policing of minor crimes like these often creates tension between community and law enforcement.

But Police Commissioner Bill Bratton does not support the plan. He says crimes should be treated like crimes. “It limits the ability of police officers in this city to do their job” he said.

This is another example of minority politicians refusing to enforce the law on the people who vote for them.

We need to have a place for people who need to destroy things.

For liberals that I place is called government.

If people can't control themselves the government will. If the government can't control itself, another government will.

It's not rocket science. It all breaks down with that first Id-iotic urge to see oneself breaking the law and sticking it to "The Man" on social media.

Public Urination, it's a life style issue!

Non-crime crimes. Free passes for the daily low-lifes to piss, shit, swear, fight, harass and annoy in public; all in exchange for their being reliable voters for Comrade Bill. Way to go. Way to incrementally destroy a once beautiful city.

Commies like to let the little people go free of responsibility, while hobbling productive people with high crime neighborhoods and a seemingly infinite list of rules and regulations that govern every aspect of living and working.

One can only hope that the insufferable liberal jerks in Manhattan who simply adored Comrade Bill when he was a candidate now have to put up with their neighborhoods being made more filthy and hazardous.

The left mocked Rudy G up and down after he cleaned up NY City and made it safe for the cocktail party elites to click around the streets in their name brand fashion and high heals.

After NY descends into chaos and crime, who will they blame?

Bush.

Reposting a comment that I left at Trooper's place. It seems relevant here too :-)

We have this revolving door of dirtbags that get arrested for robbery and small time drug crimes. They get arrested and within a few weeks or months, they are back in the area. Plus we get dumped the losers from other areas into our rural communities. I guess the law types think out of sight out of mind. Dump 'em out here and they won't be in THEIR hair anymore.

Everyone knows who they are. The cops know who they are. Everyone knows where they are too. Everyone knows that they are just going to do more burglaries, rip off more people, get arrested and then back again through the revolving door. The cops don't care. They are probably as disgusted as everyone else at this system.

People are getting tired of having to be paranoid when they decide to take a day or two to go out of town. Have to start locking their buildings at night. Be armed at night and during the day. We have been looking into security cameras for our plumbing building which is full of tools, pumps, electrical components and copper piping. Prime targets for the dirtbags.

Recently we have been hearing people comment along the lines of...."Gee, wouldn't it be just too darned bad if Mr or Miss DirtBag #1 should go missing" (wink wink nudge nudge) It could easily happen in our rural area with lots of wilderness in which a person could have an unfortunate accident, disappear into the maw of scavengers and everyone would be minus one less dirtbag to worry about. No one would miss them.

OF COURSE ....WE, personally, would never consider such a thing. However, we won't be surprised when vigilante justice is being served up in the absence of any real policing or punishment for known criminals.

People are getting real tired of the pretense of law enforcement or that government is going to protect us.

no - It's more fashionable to blame the Koch brothers for crime in NYC. Yeah- the Koch brothers.

Oh, boy, sounds like Gotham is gonna need Rudy real soon.

Or maybe the Magnificent Seven.

Here's the thing. For the progressive Democratic Party right is and wrong is right. They don't just mock Giuliani they claim that crime had already turned around under Dinkins and Benjamin Ward. They cook the statistics in the same way they do for global warming and if you point out that it is lie they call you a racist.

Racialists will never condemn the riots and criminality of their community in the same way that Obama will never really condemn murderous Muslim extremism. Those are their "people" from which they derive their perks of office. The Mayor of Baltimore is a typical racialist just like the City Council President. They want to decriminalize illegal behavior instead of leading and telling the hard truth that you need to obey the law and not just do whatever you want to do.

It should be a crime to be stupid.

What about the raccoon eyed residents of Berkeley?

We have a similar problem in Milwaukee, where I live near, but not in. The police ignore "minor" crimes, and the courts don't punish bigger crimes.

As a result, Milwaukee now has a per-capita homicide rate higher than NYC or Chicago. And when the perps are finally arrested for killing someone, often they are 15-19 years old and have dozens of prior arrests for violent crimes, and have been repeatedly released by the lenient courts.

The city has turned into a total shithole. The population is dropping rapidly. In parts of the city, more than half the houses are boarded up or burned out.

The current mayor is clueless. No idea how to stop crime, other than blaming the concealed carry laws for increasing gun homicides. But, uh, not one of the perps had a CCW license.

Not surprisingly, in Milwaukee's long history, every mayor the city has had has been either a member of the Socialist or the Democrat parties.

I am afraid NYC is past the tipping point. I had a homeless guy ranting and raving outside my store. When I called the prescient they said "is he bothering anybody?" They started giving me an argument and then they just hung up the phone. I guess I was interfering with the homeless guys rights to be an asshole.

What I am going to do is the next time I have to call for graffiti I will ask the patrolman for his cell phone number. Then when I need him I will call him and tip him when he shows up like the UPS guy.

Trooper York said...

I don't really blame the cops. Why should they put their ass on the line when they know the mayor and the higher ups will throw them to the wolves.

When Giuliani was in the cops knew he had their back. With the current crew they know they would get stabbed in the back.

Honestly, they tend to stay in berzerkly, so I don't care. They aren't festooned up and down the west coast like the leftist shit-hole of NYC, Philly, Baltimore, Shitsburgh, etc.

At worst we have Seattle, Portland, San Fran, and LA and they are fairly tame compared.

That's how the original Vigilantes got started.

And they did a good job, too.

It's like they're purposefully ignoring the proven success of the broken windows theory (atmosphere of law and order sets tone which helps prevent more serious crime).

Oh man, I'm watching a live video feed of the riot in Baltimore. This is terrible.

Not enough cops, bricks thrown at cops, cops throwing bricks back at rioters. This is getting ugly, really fast.

Boston is thriving and growing! They can't build fast enough. New neighborhoods popping up and bidding wars for units. The last unit in my building went for over 200k the asking price!

I get cards with gift cards from realtors asking me if I would want to sell. San Francisco's housing market is white hot too!

Milwaukee is a dump.

Amartel said...

Didn't the Baltimore hackosaurus mayor establish a destruction zone or some such nonsense for rioters? Seems similar to the "safe zones" on college campuses that we've heard so much about. Viz., Area Where Youth Can Do Whatever Youth Wants Without Any Pushback. (Also similar to "gun free" zones, now I think about it.) Lefties are always trying to divide people up, identify them by group based on appearance and park them in zones. Mark this box, get in that cage. Maybe they'll throw you a bone if you're good. Some of the especially compliant zoo animals are taken out occasionally and jumped through hoops of fire for entertainment. This is called a "circus." It airs on MSNBC and other government media outlets.
