Every Picture Tells a Story
As you get older your tastes change. When a Yoohoo and a couple of Ring Dings was the height of culinary delight soon enough you graduate to a fine Malbac and a plate of figs and cheese. Nowhere is that more the case than your musical tastes. I mean who listens to Jethro Tull anymore?
I had always enjoyed Rod Stewart's music. In fact his maudlin ballad "Hand Bags and Glad Rags" was one of my favorite tunes. This was long before punk rock and disco when Led Zep ruled the airwaves. I remember I played the album "Every Picture Tells a Story" over and over again on my turntable. Then disaster struck.

How young are you?
How old am I?
Let's count the rings around my eye
How smart are you?
How dumb am I?
Don't count any of my advice
That is Peter Buck -- the reclusive genius behind R.E.M. -- on guitar. They say his sound was distinct because he didn't play chords but rather arpeggios. WTH are arpeggios?

This guy did 80's music correctly. Even all these years later I find the video cannot be resisted.

Offshore along the drive between Oceanside and Orange County, on a clear day, Catalina Island appears. Avalon was carved from the southern leeward side, and is faintly visible from the mainland. On my first trip there, I saw flying fish:
There's a restaurant in Avalon which will cook your abalone -- provided you bring it. I suspect you could buy some on the black market. Never tried.

Lyrics
things take forever
But with building bricks of trust and love
Mountains can be moved
Love come, down upon us 'til you flow like water
Burning, with the hope of insight
Feathered, look they're covered with a bright elation
Stolen, in the sight of love
We are, we are, we are but your children
Finding our way around indecision
We are, we are, we are ever helpless
Take us forever, a whisper to a scream
