"Trump shocked Republicans on Wednesday by making a deal with Democrats"

Via Twitter: The surprise deal left Republicans in despair and Democrats expressing glee.

“I just think it could be a much better deal than it is. And I think they need more time,” said Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) characterized the deal as a “happy ending” that was for the “good of the nation.”

The current track for Irma now has me concerned for the first time - it is very similar to Fran back in '96, and that was a terrible storm.

He saved the ineffectual clowns who "lead" the Republican party from making fools of themselves again. They wanted to push this out beyond the midterms for purely self-serving political reasons but, as usual, weren't able to get it done. He pushed the decision point out three months. Three months that would have been spent watching the Republicans stumble around blindly in a cloud of failure and bad press.

The relative in Miami that I mentioned Tuesday left Miami Wednesday morning and settled in Daytona. Irma appears to be following her there, strolling up A1-A. Then it will turn left and go to Sixty's house for a visit.

I'm still hoping for a right turn, but that needs to happen tomorrow.

That's stellar affirmation of it's badness.

I guess the models keep pushing the storm east, but I'm just not seeing it happen. I remember during Ike, they kept saying the storm would steer east and go south of Houston. The steer was always assumed, so the forecast tracks usually discussed what would happen afterwards. They just kept moving the turn north every cycle it didn't occur. Well, it never did occur.

Of course back then, NHC admitted they tended to the side of extreme caution in their forecasts, which is to say of the multiple model tracks to choose from, they selected the scariest to put on the forecast to incite people into action. I think that's been nipped a bit, but with the Obama swamp, I wouldn't be so sure.

Regardless, a storm of this magnitude travelling up the East Coast of the US will be a bad day for millions of Americans.

So it should come as comfort to us all that DC is focused on DACA. Because everyone dreams about being used as pawns by a government during a time of crisis.

A 3 month deal is fine to send a signal to McConnell and Ryan that he will stab them in the chest just like they stab him in the back.

The only shocked Republicans are the DC swamp variety.

The niftiest part is it will drive all those Resisters insane.

How could they DO that?

err, the other east, otherwise known as west.

I'm not upset over what Trump just did, but I'm pissed off about the behavior of the RINOs.

Some of the populist programs such as infrastructure and maybe even tax reform might be easier with the Democrats.

The Republicans are useless. Obamacare showed that.

bagoh20 said...

You can always get either party to spend on anything, and spending is always a populist idea. Paying for it never is. It's THE reason for all the other problems. Without controlling spending, Trump nor anyone else is gonna help this nation in the long run. You can call it infrastructure, just like they always do, becuase that fools the public every single time, but it will be pork for friends, donors and companies that will deliver very little on the dollar. That's the nature of government spending: waste, waste waste. It's not the 1950's anymore.

If it is structured to build things by privatization and brings jobs and prospertity to normal working class American the it is a great thing.

I would fund part of it by cutting funds for education. That is the biggest scam of all.

Trooper York said...

Putting Americans to work in construction is not waste.

Student loans for woman's studies and black history is money down a rathole.

On that happy note, it's interesting to hear Songbird is suddenly willing to vote for the OCare repeal. McConnell & Co may now be realizing that they are expendable.

As Mr Surber has noted, this is the Demos raising the white flag.

Amen, Bagoh.

The Congress and its donors will decide how it's spent which means huge waste, and I bet many of the jobs go to immigrants, including many illegal ones. We will get green jobs building inefficient and expensive infrastructure that will be mostly useless, if evcer built at all. In other words, politically correct and motivated building - not building what we need. It will be mostly wasted, then taxes will be increased to pay for it and the interest it will rack up in spades.

It's amazing how people always think their guy will do it different. Dems believe Dems will, Repubs believe their's will, and populists do the same. Problem is: that dog don;t hunt no matter who's calling him. Government does not make things, build things or do things for us. It only holds us back, distracts us, and feeds us stories.

Trump got his win in November: biggest job in the world, but it didn't deliver the respect or love he expected. He'll be going after that now. He's gotten a little bored with the base. Looking around at the hard-to-get chicks now. New challenges, new excitement, new friends.

“Super Upbeat” Trump Gushes To Schumer, Pelosi About Glowing Media Coverage Over Yesterday’s “Deal”"

Sheese! Giving your enemies what they want for nothing in return is not a deal. Well, he did get something, but it was cheap and won't last, unless he becomes Obama II. Hey, that guy got lots of love from the media.

You called it, Troop, with the ouster of Bannon. It's a whole new game, and the populists are just warmed up leftovers now.

Rabel said...

If Allahpundit is against it, I'm for it.

edutcher said...

bag, I think, you're wrong.

This is Machiavelli 101, taught by a master. In the Surber piece, there's a quote from an article saying how stunned the Whigs were when they found they were being shut out. This is about laying down the law to Ryan and McCain, among others. If he can get his promises kept by working deals with Chuckie, then why should anybody vote for the Whigs?

Bannon was a latecomer to the party and the lack of his presence is not going to make a hill of beans' difference. He's just an excuse for the whiners.

Rabel said...

If Ryan or Mitch had any leadership skills then any "deal" Trump made with the dems wouldn't matter. They still have majorities in both houses.

Methadras said...

So Trump makes a 'deal' with the swamp creatures. RINO's are agog. They hold majorities, they kill any legislation in the name of fiscal sanity or they go along with it and look like bi-partisan heroes. Again, I think this is a great political move by Trump.

Sadly - yes. I like Trump best when he is hitting the hack press. I hope Trump doesn't go full-McCain asskissing all the D's to score cheap points. That won't buy him anything anyway. Backstabbers be backstabbers.

Trooper York said...

I don't think he is going to ass kiss the Democrats. But he is going to cut deals. Massive spending was always in the cards. What the Wall and infrastructure was going to be cheap? He always planned to work with the Democrats.

The fact is the so called Republicans and the so called conservatives can not deliver jack shit. Trump is going to be very conservative in some ways. Judges. Regulations. Opening up energy. But he is going to be populist in other ways. Spending on Social Security. Medicare. Infrastructure. Will there be waste and fraud and cronyism? Yes there always is. Of course the press is going to hold him to a standard that they never will do to a Democrat. So the worst excesses will be exposed before they become too egregious. But Trump is going to triangulate.

What I worry about is that he has abandoned the Populist foreign policy. That the deep state has their hooks in him and we will have more wars and nation building. That seems to be the way it is going unless he blows it up which I hope he does. Bannon and Gorka and the rest of the people purged are also going to hold his feet to the fire In immigration. Foreign Policy. Other things that he promised.

Trooper York said...

Trump is going to put some points on the board using various coalitions.

Big spending on entitlements and infrastructure with Democrats and liberal Rhinos.

Conservative judges and regulation reform with a mostly Republican party line vote.

There are no permanent allies only permanent interest.

ndspinelli said...

Franken just blue slipped Trumps nominee for the 8th Circuit. It takes more than just a party line vote in judge appointments. A Senator from the nominees state can just blue slip him/her and they're toast.

As a NY liberal, of course he's going to work with the democrats. In other words, we are fucked.
Plus what Bagoh said- Trump cannot stand not being loved. The way to love is thru the corruptocrat party and the corruptocrat media.

"If Trump caves on the wall and gives into amnesty,"

We may well get to see that, but if we do, it will be called something else than caving, like
"genius", "pragmatism" or "6th level chess".

Like a fire alarm with a heart, I, for one, would love to be wrong on this blog all day long. Nothing would make me happier.

Exactly. We are rooting for Trump but not going to cheerleader him after he goes full proggy.
