Eagles planning anthem demonstration on Monday night

The first Sunday of the regular season coincided with the 15th anniversary of 9/11. And while there were still some demonstrations from NFL players during the national anthem, at least one team refrained on that day — but won’t in Week Two.
“Everybody wants to be a part of it and I feel like it’s no different on our team,” Eagles safetyMalcolm Jenkins told Glen Macnow of WIP in Philadelphia on Friday, via CSNPhilly.com. “We got guys, especially myself, who feel very strongly about the topic. Last week, we talked about doing some stuff, but we wanted to make sure we didn’t do anything to take away from the folks, the families, that suffered from 9-11. We didn’t want to mess with that day, so we left last week alone. But moving forward, I’m sure there will be guys that will probably join in.”
Jenkins said he possibly will be one of the players who participate in the demonstration.

“For me, it has nothing to do with this country or the flag or the anthem in itself,” Jenkins said. “Really, it’s just to continue to push for the conversation about social injustice. And that’s a range of things from police brutality to wages and job opportunities to education. It’s just a lot of things systematically that have been set up in this country, since its inception that really put minorities, especially African-Americans, at a disadvantage, when you’re talking about quality of life and actually growing in this country.
“So we want to continue to keep that conversation going and push it to as many people as we can. Obviously, while also doing our part in bringing forth change. And I think, obviously, this has been a hot topic and the more players that join in, the further this conversation goes. And I think after the initial shock of what happened and once everybody started to listen to what [Colin Kaepernick’s] message was, it’s become a really good conversation that’s going on nationwide. I think every player has an opinion and definitely wants to share, use their stage to do better.”
Jenkins said that coach Doug Pederson is aware of the plan, and that he is “OK” with it.
“He understands that we have the right to express our feelings and use our voices in whatever way we want to,” Jenkins said. “But he definitely wanted that open discussion. With him, he’s not shocked by anything. Although we chose not to do something last week, we’re on the same page.”
It’s only been 22 days since Kaepernick’s decision to sit during the anthem was first noticed, and the phenomenon of sitting or kneeling or raising a fist has spread consistently in the two sets of NFL games played since then. For the most part, management (league office, owners, coaches) have supported the players’ rights to use the anthem as a platform for making a statement, although Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has called the displays “very disappointing.”
Commissioner Roger Goodell’s comments on the subject tied the decision to stand to patriotism — an implication that anything other than standing at attention isn’t patriotic. NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith has taken issue with the notion that anthem demonstrations are not patriotic, as has Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall.
(So the coach is ok with it? The NFL which regulates everything has no problem with it? The NFL that refused to allow the Cowboys to wear a patch honoring murdered cops has no problem with it? The NFL that fined the players who wore cleats supporting the 911 first responders has no problem with it?
They are telling you what they think. Which is of course their right. Tell them what you think. Turn off the TV. Cash in your season tickets. Drop the NFL. They have dropped you.)

What happened to the Ditzy Twits?

Sorry, Mushmouth Jenkins, I am fresh out of fucks to give.

The only way to reverse the trend is for the members of the NFL who feel differently to stand up and be counted.

The old Giants under Wellington Mara would have stood up against this. The Art Rooney's and George Halas's would never have allowed this.

They think this is no big deal. But it is a sign. A canary in the coal mine. ESPN is losing millions of subscribers because of its extreme social justice warrior activity. The backlash is coming.

The NFL has a fair number of players who are murderers, rapists, wife beaters, and puppy abusers. I appreciate their efforts to make America a better country, but shouldn't some effort first be extended to making NFL players worthy of the teams and cities that they represent. On a per capita basis there are far more assholes in the NFL than in any police department.

It is not the idiot players that are the problems. There have always been morons playing the game. It is the corporate response that is the problem.

They should say "You stand for the Anthem or you get cut. You can protest on your own time. You can't use our game as a platform for social justice warriors. Stand up and shut up or go back to the car wash."

You’ll are too harsh. These players perform heroics for pittance...pittance I tell you...

I mean....what could be less self-agrandizing than a show for social justice.

Heres the thing.

The SJW's love to mock the old angry white men. You know. The guys who buy the season tickets and the memorabilia and the beers and the cars that they advertise.

So if the angry old white guys stop buying thickets what are they going to do? I mean if they are counting on Black Lives Matters they are counting on people who have to steal the season tickets from a convenience store. How is that gonna work out for them.

As I say, when you diss the fan base (Ditzy Twits), your act goes South in a hurry.

If you wonder why such douchebags are making millions, and never seem to pay a price, it's because fans say: "he may be a douchebag, but he's our douchebag."

I hope a boycott delivers real pain. I think players have a right to protest, and fans have a right to boycott, and owners have a right to fire them. Everybody has power, it's just a question of who wants to sacrifice to exercise it. I admire your stand, Troop, and I hope lots of fans join you.

Nice try, but that doesn't happen.

In fact, gate's been dropping the last 5 years.

If people start turning the channel, that's the ball game.

As it were.

How long before this slow suicide contaminates the other leagues? The NBA and the NHL?

Trooper York said...

It already happened in the NBA. It will never happen in the NHL as much as I hate hockey.

Guess why?

chickelit said...

Why do you hate hockey? Darcy made me like the Red Wings

chickelit said...

Don't tell me you don't like hockey for class reasons. That would be very untrumpian of you.

Because it was the first to really sell out. Bastardizing their sport by bringing in too many franchises and diluting the game. It has become unrecognizable.

Just the way basketball, football and baseball have done.

Baseball is my last hold out. That is because I can still listen to it on the radio and follow the game the way I used to do when I was a kid. But I give up on the rest of the SJW pro Black Lives Matters enablers of cop killers. Not for me. Not anymore. They can go screw.

As I've said, it will patriots vs. players. Now that Goodell has supported the players in desecrating this country further. Then fuck him and the NFL. I'm out. Hope he likes less populated stadiums.

Well, they can protest but should have to pay the price. The NFL has been rather hypocritical about these things. The NFL fines players for doing end zone dances for pete's sake. No more Icky Shuffle but they can kneel instead of stand during the anthem because "freedom".

A pox on all their houses. Bunch of greedy jackasses they are.

Viewership is down but viewership is down throughout the entertainment industry. Unlike the rest of the entertainment industry, guys can really make an impact here since men are the main football audience.

Bags draws blood with his rapier wit.
This reasoning is also why people vote to return their hack incumbent Congresscritters back to power even and despite that they're awful. It explains people like Harry Reid and other crusty disgusting barnacles on the hull of the good ship USA.
