What "good advice" do you think is actually bad advice?

Reddit rated best comments...
"Live like you're dying". If I did that everyday I might actually have died already.
"Eat everything that is on your plate."
"Don't give up on your dreams". ...Sometimes your dreams are stupid.
"Hang in there". Quitting is completely underrated. And elegantly exiting a broken venture early is a very important life skill.
"Video games taught me that if you're encountering enemies, you're going in the right direction."
"If you're in your 20s or early 30s quit your job and travel!"

Think with your heart, not your head.

Thinking with your heart works about as well as depending on your brain to pump your blood for you.

Giving advice is futile. Why? A person is either ready to act on the advice, in which case he doesn't need it; or he's not ready or capable of acting on the advice, in which case the advice is wasted. Take "Live like your dying." What does that mean? I think it means "Live like you know your time is limited." Believe it or not only a small percentage of humans know that at the gut level. And they don't need the advice, they're the ones who hit the ground running. The rest of us (I include myself) think we've got forever and dawdle much of our allotted time away. And couldn't act on the advice if offered because we really don't get it... again, not at the gut level.

"Follow your bliss". That's never a good idea.

"Stay in school."
"Study hard."
"Don't do drugs."
"Avoid alcohol."
"Wait for marriage."
"Marry a nice girl."
"Don't do that - you could get killed."

I don't regret ignoring any of those, but I do agree that you should not "spit into the wind" nor "return to the scene of the crime."
