The video shows old photos from the sugar cane industry in Hawaii. If you've ever been to the Big Island (Hilo in particular) you know how dead that industry is. The real ag-economy is clockwise around the island near Kona where they grow coffee and weed.
I always wondered why Hawaii never became known for quality (or even rot-gut) rum. Does it have to do with the fact that most of the sugar cane was loaded onto ships and processed in California (California & Hawaii, i.e., C&H sugar)? Certainly there was a hardworking native population to corrupt with drink.

Why no Rum. that's is a good question. They still grow some sugar on other islands, like Maui. They still burn it the old fashioned way.
The pineapple industry used to be big too. Now that's mostly gone. The entire Island of Lana'i was once one giant pineapple field.
...Now that Billionaire owns it.
When I was stationed in Hawaii, Aloha Friday meant the female civilian clerks would wear mumus to work.
