What if al-Assad had a son that looked like Trayvon?

In the previous thread, I noticed many of you didn't offer arguments in the way of help to our president. Who, many say has box himself into a corner and it now appears that our adversaries, Russia and China are poised to take advantage of his apparent ineptitude. Despite how he got where he finds himself, however, I want to remind you, Obama still our president.

Now, I know what you might think or say.
Lem, how can you ask us to help Obama when we are squarely opposed to him politically?

This is what I ask. Lets put aside our political differences and come together in the spirit of lending, giving our president some of our wisdom, if not experience, working/managing ourselves out of tight corners.

Are there any experts here in Syrian citizenship by way of Hawaii?

You remember how clear headed and resolute the president appeared, at this press conference when he said...
"You know, if I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon," Obama said. "All of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves."
Can anything be more serious than launching our country into yet another war?
"Obviously, this is a tragedy. I can only imagine what these parents are going through," Obama said. "All of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how something like this has happened."
If al-Assad had a son that looked like Trayvon, maybe our president would reconsider going after the father of that son with missiles and bombs. I'm just thinking aloud here, just like secretary Kerry, who btw, also served in Vietnam.

Let's go back and see where Obama has performed up to his presidential prerogatives and see if a concrete connection can be made, where it would help our president find his way out the "muddle" he put himself in. Lets help president Obama find "his own words".

If Obama attacks Syria and a child that looks like Trayvon is killed... what are the odds?

Obama wants advice on how to handle this situation? Fine.

First, shoot the Vice President and the Speaker of the House in the head. Also, shoot your foreign policy team in the head.

Then resign, and hope that the country can luck into someone better for the job. Unlikely as that may be.

Oh, fuck. That would make Patrick Leahy President. Well, that's no good. Let's go down the list.

....

Hmmm.

That won't work. Basically, Obama needs to shoot every one of his cabinet members in the head, along with the Speaker of the House, and the President pro tempore of the Senate, and of course the Vice President (though a head shot is unlikely to kill Biden: what are the chances someone could shoot old Shut the Fuck Up Joey in the BRAIN?!), and THEN he can resign and hope that in the following Constitutional crisis someone who actually knows what they're doing can be put in charge.

By which point the Syrian Crisis should be well and truly resolved.

That's the best I can do for President Just Kidding.

I think Obama should get all of the respect and deference and support that Senator Barrack Obama gave President Bush in similar circumstances.

No more and no less.

"What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.

What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income — to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression. That's what I'm opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics. Now let me be clear — I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity. He's a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.

But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history. I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaida. I am not opposed to all wars. I'm opposed to dumb wars.

So for those of us who seek a more just and secure world for our children, let us send a clear message to the president today. You want a fight, President Bush? Let's finish the fight with bin Laden and al-Qaida, through effective, coordinated intelligence, and a shutting down of the financial networks that support terrorism, and a homeland security program that involves more than color-coded warnings. You want a fight, President Bush?

Let's fight to make sure that the U.N. inspectors can do their work, and that we vigorously enforce a non-proliferation treaty, and that former enemies and current allies like Russia safeguard and ultimately eliminate their stores of nuclear material, and that nations like Pakistan and India never use the terrible weapons already in their possession, and that the arms merchants in our own country stop feeding the countless wars that rage across the globe. You want a fight, President Bush?"

No Lem I still an American. I just don't except Barack Obama as my President.

I learned my lesson when I bet on the Red Sox in the 1986 World Series. You should never change sides and root for your enemy.

That is why Obama is always helping the Muslim Brotherhood. Now he wants to be Al Qaeda's air force.

He wants to stay with his side.

And any other lefty bumper sticker logic you wish to apply.

I've been giving them hell on this front for years. I have yet to see any Dem acknowledge that the economy sucks. It's all fucking wine and roses for them, because they've got the power, and they've got a regular Stalin for a President.

It is pretty amusing to read that speech in light of what has gone on the past five years.

But it went down the rabbit hole as the media and the Republicans refuse to hold him accountable.

Of course Obama is my president. But he almost went off the rails constitutionally and had to be pulled back. Presidents make mistakes, and there are lawful ways to resolve these lapses. Some presidents have resigned for much less.

Now you are just trying to make our president look bad.

There is no way that could happen.

Why, he'd grow up to be President!

Saying Obama is your President is like saying Satan is your Devil.

Why would you want to claim that?

*Comports with the Constitution

That being said, I don't think he represents my interests any more than Feinstein or Boxer do.

Dust Bunny Queen said...

Of course Obama is my president.

Obama is officially, The President of The United States. But, he doesn't act like it. He has already written off the 'bitter clingers', affiliates or disengages himself with groups of people based on their race, his DOJ has made a distinction in justice for everyone impartially or justice for "my people". The policies that Obama institutes are meant to harm some groups of people and are meant to harm certain geographic areas that didn't vote for him. Economic punishment. The IRS selecting groups to harass and punish. The DOJ ignoring the laws in immigration and not giving one fig leaf of concern about the people who suffer in the border States. Obama has purposely stoked the fires of racial discontent. Obama doesn't care about the United States as a whole, just about his political ideology and his cronyism and his ability to keep "his people" in power.

So. No....Obama is no MY President. He has already decided that for me in his words dismissing the needs and wants of wide swaths of this country and confirmed by his actions. We may have to endure his presence in the White House where he plays at being President of the United States, but by his actions he is NOT the President of ALL of us, and certainly is not MY President.

Trooper York said...

But that's the point chickie. The BDS people will never ever get behind a Republican President. Much less a conservative.

I was watching Chris Matthews on the day the vote came out of committee just to see if his head was going to explode. All he did was scream about John McCain and the neo-con war mongers who were behind this resolution when of course it was Obama who wants to go to war. They will never deal honestly. Ever.

They should get no slack. No quarter. They are the enemy.

The sooner the conservatives realize this the better off they will be.

ricpic said...

Obama is a passionate racist. Witness the lightning quick "Those cops acted STUPIDLY" and "If I had a son..." statements. What he's not passionate about is forcefully advocating for America's interests on the international stage. And why should he be? Obama reviles America as the embodiment of what he would call white privilege and western exploitation of the innocent by definition non-western world. Witness his bowing offensive to oily sheiks. That America is weakened by his latest bumbling ineptitude on Syria is a bonus not a minus in his view.

"Now let me be clear"

Traivon
The moment I met you, I swear.
I felt as if something, somewhere,
Had happened to me, which I couldn't see.
And then, the moment I met you, again.
I knew in my heart that we were friends.
It had to be so, it couldn't be no.

But try as hard as I might do, I don't know why.
You get to me in a way I can't describe.
Words mean so little when you look up and smile.
I don't care what people say, to me you're more than a child.

Oh Trayvon. Trayvon

I just read, in a book on Leonardo, that the children of slaves - the noble families in Florence, Milan, etc. had squadrons of slaves - anyway the children of those slaves were granted free status at birth and often incorporated into those noble families, basically adopted. Isn't that fascinating? Well, I think it is. Leonardo's ma was a slave but there was no stigma assigned to him by the noble family his ma slaved for. Smart custom.

He doesn't want to be your president. Not unless you blindly worship at his feet. It's one of those situations like you've already been fired so it's too late to resign. Bonus Ouch: If O'Blamer's not your president then O'Bumble is next in line to the throne. Which is ... not good.

Was driving around over the weekend with random radio on in the car and "You Haven't Done Nothing" came on. Stevie Wonder pissed at Nixon circa 1973. Amazed but not amused, much concerned but not involved, sick and tired of hearing your song, telling us how you would change right from wrong BUT you haven't done nothing. Etc.

Applies perfectly to Obama. Like, eerily, every verse applies.

It's not too cool to be ridiculed
But you brought this upon yourself
The world is tired of pacifiers
We want the truth and nothing else.

[This message not approved by Stevie Wonder.]

Its obvious that the death of Trayvon affected our president much more deeply and blunttendentiously.

I was looking for a translation of "contundente" and found the English substitutes lacking. they had no umpf.

So I came up with blunttendentious.

'The uncompromisingly forthright expression or intention to promote a particular cause or point of view, esp. a controversial one.'

Now, after all that, I see that I could also have used "resoundly"? maybe?

I had such high hopes for blunttendentious.

rip blunttendentious.

I guess it's natural the Obama would have a greater affinity towards the death of Trayvon than he would the potential death of a few Syrians, as a result of his order to bomb that country.

Just saying.

Choomie's approval is currently at 38 (adults) with 3 1/4 years to go. Since Dubya went out around 31 (frankly, I think the press low-balled him the way they high-balled (insert punchline) Willie), any takers where Zero will be in January '17?

IIRC, LBJ started the "your" President bit, but he's not "your" President, "my" President, "their" President, or "our" President.

He's "the" President, and, if he's a bad one, by all means, impeach him.

I'm betting high crimes and misdemeanors won't be hard to come by.
