When a villian becomes a hero!

Ever since I got my kindle I have intrigued by these books that you can download for 99 cents. I mean how could that be bad? You are not making a big investment in time or money as they are generally short stories that you can just breeze through with out stopping to come up for air.

The great Lawrence Block talks about his stories that he is putting on Amazon for that great low price. It is a way to encourage short stories and novellas and such. I already have most of these stories in various collections I have bought through the years but will buy them again for a dollar. Just to have them on the kindle to pull up at my leisure.

Anyhoo, I got this crazy book called Thor Meets Captain America!

I found it by just typing in Captain America in the search function of the kindle and it popped right up. What it is about is an alternative universe where the Norse Gods of Asgard decide to ally themselves with the Germans during World War 2 and stop them from losing. Then Loki of all people rescues the Jews in the concentration camps and magically transports them to Israel.

And Loki becomes an ally of the United States and the Free World as they battle the Nazi's up till the 1960's! A villain becomes a hero! Dogs and Cats lie down together! Who would have thunk it.

Its a small idea and perfect for a novella. I haven't finished it yet but it is a pretty quick read. For 99 cents you can't beat it.

Plus the whole idea will give some people a heart attack. Just sayn'

Reviews for The Mystery of the Yellow Room, Gaston Leroux

5 stars: yeh duniya yeh duniya pittal di....baby doll tu sone di...hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,.abbe thik se par ...

5 stars: The book was interesting, but the narration quality ranged from horrendous (Chapter 20) to excellent.

3 stars: The book is good, and most of the readers too. Although one or two of the readers had quite a strong accent, which unfortunately made some chapters a little tiresome to listen to.

5 stars:  Good book except I had a hard time following the characters with French names. I ended up reading about the book on Wikipedia to understand who was who and accidently read too far and found out who the real murderer was before I was done with the book. Bummer.

3 stars: The plot is great but it is read by more than one reader. One of the readers I find is fantastic but there is another whom has a very quiet voice and I struggle to hear her and I find her rather dull voice really difficult to listen to. I actually gave up and listen to another book before returning to this story because I couldn't always hear that particular readers very soft voice and accent.

5 stars: A very good mystery novel. Most chapters are really well read and the story keeps you hooked.

Awake in the Night Land

I heard a rumor this collection of novellas by John C. Wright was going to be FREE tomorrow...

It looks like something my husband would probably like.  Me? Maybe not so much.

"AWAKE IN THE NIGHT LAND is an epic collection of four of John C. Wright's brilliant forays into the dark fantasy world of William Hope Hodgson's 1912 novel, The Night Land. Part novel, part anthology, the book consists of four related novellas, "Awake in the Night", "The Cry of the Night-Hound", "Silence of the Night", and "The Last of All Suns", which collectively tell the haunting tale of the Last Redoubt of Man and the end of the human race."

UPDATE:  That information is wrong... the FREE book is only the first novella in that collection.

Books That Could Use A Kindle Edition...

..."The Periodic System of Chemical Elements: A History of the First Hundred Years by J.W. van Spronsen"

I can name a few other works I'd like to own but never will because of prohibitive cost. Can you think of some?

Help me find a cheaper copy of this book!

Human Wave Garage Sale

Over at According to Hoyt.

Ladies, Gentlemen, Beings of Furritude, I come not to bury grey goo plotting but to yawn at it and to sigh “I don’t care what happens to all these characters” and — occasionally, when a novel rises a little bit above the common style –, to sigh and say “I want them all dead by chapter two.” (Ah, for a minion I could dispatch to story world. “Guido, see to it. I want them all dead by chapter two before they all start the belly button contemplating until it reels the mind. Make them dead. Hide the bodies.” Of course, in many cases this would improve the pacing and action of the plot. In others no one would notice.)
The antidote is called Human Wave fiction. The Garage Sale is a list of (mostly) Kindle special deals from authors who have promised not to serve up grey goo or contemplate belly buttons.

Scroll down, but don't skip reading Sarah's post because each and every word is put there with malice aforethought to engage and entertain (even if you refuse to be properly thoughtful.)

You know you need more to read, you know you do! So go.
