Two American Originals

Why not, it's Friday night, might as well keep the Western theme going.

A woman I know who lives with her husband in northern Idaho had to put her horse down about a week ago. The horse was 33 yrs old and she's had it for over 25 years, longer than she's known her husband. She and the horse began their long relationship in western Kentucky where she grew up. After she and her husband graduated from vet school the horse went with them out west.

That's the best western story this buckaroo can come up with.

That is the real west right there - a beloved useful animal, a part of the family, really, you grow old together then you reach the end of the line. Very sad. Hope she is doing okay.

As long as we're on a western theme, let me turn the corner slightly toward country music in general. Ran across this guy today. Zane Campbell. He's a bit different.

Probably every recreational drug known were used by these 2 great musicians. Ray kicked that heroin. When I was in high school we had an assembly where the principal[priest] brought in an ex con, a black guy in his 40's to talk about drugs. All I remember was he called heroin, "heron." I mean I can still see and hear him saying "heron" about 30 times. Funny what you remember.
