Via Instapundit:  Illinois is like Venezuela now, a fiscally broken state that has lost its will to live, although for the moment, we still have enough toilet paper.

But before we run out of the essentials, let's finally admit that after decade upon decade of taxing and spending and borrowing, Illinois has finally run out of other people's money.

Those "other people" include taxpayers who've abandoned the state. And now Illinois faces doomsday.

So as the politicians meet in Springfield this week for another round of posturing and gesturing and blaming, we need a plan.

And here it is:

Dissolve Illinois. Decommission the state, tear up the charter, whatever the legal mumbo-jumbo, just end the whole dang thing.

We just disappear. With no pain. That's right. You heard me.

The best thing to do is to break Illinois into pieces right now. Just wipe us off the map. Cut us out of America's heartland and let neighboring states carve us up and take the best chunks for themselves.

AllenS beat me to it: what makes you think any of the neighboring states WANT any of that POS state?

Join with Puerto Rico as an independent nation. They can have their own currency.

What Illinois needs is single payer.

Come on, Wisconsin. Take one for the team.

Folks, the problem is Chicago. This current GOP governor won EVERY county but Cook and he barely won. Southern and central Illinois are very conservative. Southern Illinois people speak w/ a drawl.

And now with the GOP's new Obamacare expansion, the whole country can become Venezuela. The GOP is almost entirely useless against the expanding state, and the President is ruining any chance we had by helping them use tax money like a Democrat - to gain favor with the majority of Americans who want things for free. "Give me a bill with heart." "Throw some money into it." I remember a debate where the President repeated about a dozen times that we could reduce costs by, among other things, opening up interstate competition. What happened to that? Competition helps the consumer to a degree that no other dynamic or policy can even approach. Is there even one free market capitalist in the country who is not too busy expanding the economy to enter politics?

Populism is exactly what killed Venezuela. Nothing is more popular than free stuff... until the bill comes due, and the stuff runs out, which is already happening to health insurance all over the country. It's like they don't even notice what is failing. Next up: single payer. I guess Obama's efforts to kill health insurance were just not aggressive enough.

Illinois democrats are bad, Illinois republicans here are just as bad.

ex Governor Jim Thompson(r) exploded growth of both government and spending.
4 terms and only re-elected by the extraordinary incompetence of the democrats.

ex Governor Ryan(R) sent to jail for selling trucking licenses to incompetent drivers. Exploded state spending.

Speaker Hastert(r), in jail for diddling boys on the team and paying blackmail. Exploded US spending.

Ray La Hood(r) Obama's transportation secretary. Threw money away on high speed rail and streetcar boondoggles.

Judy Barr Topinka(r) ex GOP chair, now dead refused to endorse independent honest republican Senator Peter Fitzgerald. Dumped Jack Ryan, republican nominee for senate when divorce records unsealed showed him wanting sex with his wife. She's the one that gave us OBAMA

The second the GOP tries to kill the big lie that is ObamaCare, the left run out and scream... "you're going to kill everyone"... then the GOP retreats.

So stupid.

Lets just fast forward to single payer. You know that hospital scene in that dumb movie, Idiocracy? That is single payer. Tax payer funded, government controlled health care. run by bureaucratic flunkies.

who would want Illinois?

Leland said...

Well, when you have Indiana and Kentucky, getting Illinois and adding a couple of hotels can be devastating to your opponents.

to say nothing of tax-paying citizens.
but i repeat myself.

Florida is home of individual fail, California and New York are the collective fail states, Puerto Rico is the pre-failed nonstate, but Illinois just seems like the home state of inflamed assholes. Apparently there's another IL assassination fantasy fairy who's just been pulled over and sternly lectured for murdertweeting Congressional/all republicans/Trump. I'm sure it's entirely non-partisan and the fault of Trump/Republicans/NotDemocratsHowDareYou. Let 'em twist in the wind sans OPM for a while. See what happens. They might even become the Cautionary Tale State.

The only part of Illinois I've ever driven has been I-80 between the Chicago suburbs and Iowa or vice versa. It's terrifying. Especially the 50 or so miles in the Chicago vortex. I don't want to do a rant on Illinis, I guess that's what you call them, but there is a ferocity to their driving that has to reflect something. What that something is I don't know. But it's bowel constricting.

You forgot to include Gov Otto Kerner (of JFKs Kerner Commission on race relations) who was also a Federal judge and a Brig General in the Army Reserves who was sent to the Federal slammer for alleged bribes he took to get favorable racing dates for Arlington Park race track (which is now owned by a good friend of mine) He said, dropping names like dandruff off his shoulders..
