Another unforced error by the God Emperor.

The God Emperor of the Cherry Blossom Throne made another unforced error. He relied on his ministers and the Congressional Republicans to give him a budget and they gave him one to keep the Government working. He has agreed to it.  Instead of vetoing it and forcing their hand.

Paul Ryan and the rest of the cowardly Republicans have given him a budget that does the bidding of the Democrats. Funds Planned Parenthood. Does not fully fund the wall. Does not cut the departments as he had outlined to starve the bureaucracy. He continues far too many of the wasteful programs that have kept the swamp congenial to the rats who congregate there.

As Rush Limbaugh has outlined why does anyone vote for Republicans? They stand for nothing. They do nothing. They are afraid to do what they were elected to do. Repeal Obamacare? End wasteful spending? Stop job killing regulations? Not on their watch.

The President was not elected to go along with this. He was elected to fight to nip this in the bud. Now he has said he will go along with it this time but if he doesn't get what he wants he will veto and have a shutdown in September. I think that is a big mistake. He needs to do it now. From the jump. Because is is only going to get tougher if he goes along this time. The cucks and the Republicans will continue to try and wear him down.

President Trumps supporters need to speak out. To remind him why he was elected. Everybody gets one. This is his one. But he better step up to the plate. Because if he doesn't he could lose his base. Then he would truly be alone.

I'm going to come down on Lem's side and say this is a very carefully laid trap by The Donald which makes any crimes committed by illegals in the next 4 months the fault of the Whigs and Democrats.

This bill is only good until September, so we'll see what the political climate is then, as the summer is peak season for illegals. FWIW the official tally is that border infiltration is down 71%, although some observers in AZ say it's more like 90%. Add to that the fact Justice and DHS have finally been let off the leash and the climate is demonstrably changed.

Trump has said he has no problem with a shutdown in September, so, like the bombing in Syria, he has longer range motives. Seeing that he's lined up most of the world against the Norks on the strength of his non-isolationist, non-Libertarian actions, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt on this.

I don't disagree with the assessment that this an error. What I don't understand is the length of time. The resolution simply says change 28 April 2017 to 5 May 2017. Other than passing a FY2018 budget by Sep 30th, how does this keep funding through then? Am I looking at the wrong bill?

Of course you are ed.

Just know if people like you and I don't speak out the cucks will roll him.

He needs to know that we are not buying it.

You can only go by the situation at the time. You can only go by what people say they are going to do. When they don't follow through you have to hold them accountable.

As the well-respected Don Surber has said on several occasions, "Never bet against Donald John Trump".

Also keep in mind that he needs more true Rs, more true Conservatives in the House if he wants more intelligent legislation. This will not happen overnight.

He's gotten a lot done in a little less than 4 months, but he can't nail it all down at once. It may well be that the summer will give him time to get his Congressional ducks in a row.

Troop, I'm not crazy about this, but history says he's no caver.

Remember, Chuckie and the rest couldn't wait to take credit for the BFD until it turned into a BF Mess.

A veto combined with a speech to the nation detailing the specifics - no funding for the Wall being first and foremost - of why he was vetoing and I'll bet Trump's approval rating after such a speech would have spiked up, way up. It would have been a hill worth fighting on. For one thing, Trump would have forced at least a dozen, maybe twenty moderate Republicans to think whether they wanted to continue to buck a president of their own party with a high and rising approval rating. That's how you turn moderates into supporters. You make a stand NOW. The more time that goes by the more your mandate dissipates. I'm beginning to wonder whether there will be any hill worth fighting on.

Trooper York said...

I agree 1000% with you ric.

I think Trump is getting the idea. But only because people like Rush are speaking out. He doesn't need unblinking support right now. He needs a push.

Good post. Trump is sharp and will learn. However, he is like a team playing all away games. The Republicans are big govt, just like some folks here. They just want guns, not butter. But fuck sake, they got more butter than guns and the Dems are using the butter like Marlon Brando did in The Last Tango in Paris. I said I will give Trump until 2018, and as long as he doesn't implode, I will. I'm not nervous, I'm pissed. The only way I see shit getting done is for Trump to go directly to the people and have them harass their Congressmen. And, he should toy w/ telling voters to vote out all incumbents in 2018 if they continue to fuck w/ him. A populist has to always be in campaign mode, talking directly to the people.

I see Baghdad Ed, the big govt. tax collector, is still knocking libertarians. What a fucking idiot, Cliff Claven. Guys like him are worse than liberal Dems.

edutcher said...

How many elections have Libertarians - who are always the first to say, "There's no way we can win this" - won?

Oh, yeah, Jesse Ventura in MN.

As Kathy Shaidl (one of Insty's faves) put it, "Libertarians are just low-tax liberal conformists obsessed with weed and embracing the latest p.c. fads".

I see nd can't stand the facts and keeps calling me that name he started when I was all for The Donald and he was just another NeverTrumper - which he still is.

I just worked for the IRS because it was a paycheck in a recession. Unlike some, I peeked through no keyholes.

I agree that we have to give Trump a chance. I think he is realizing that he can't depend on Ryan. At least I hope he realizes that. That as nick says he has to go to the people to force change. That is the only way it is going to happen.

We can't keep going on the way we have been going. The Republicans have the Congress. They have to do it now. Not after the next election. Not in three months. Now.

It is time to raise the black flag and cut throats.

edutcher said...

Then we're talking recall.

With that, I have no problem.

ndspinelli said...

LOL! Cliff, it's libertarian w/ a small 'l.' This country was founded by libertarians you moron! You love the govt. I HATE IT and want it out of our lives. I want the govt. cut in half. Wait a couple years, and then cut it in half again. That would be a good start. Flat tax, 18%. Starve the obese beast that you love.

ndspinelli said...

Troop, Ryan is like all the pols who go to DC and become eltiist, big govt. lovers, tax and spend, glad handers. Like some, Ryan started out pretty good, but he got seduced by lobbyists. They all do, to varying degrees. We need a revolution. Vote out all incumbents, term limits, flat tax of 18%, across the board slashing of govt. Slash a few throats along the way..I'm down w/ that.

This country was founded by libertarians you moron!

According to whom?

The people who founded this country were believers in God who did not need to resort to cannabis when life got hard to handle. They also didn't concede defeat before the fight was even joined.

They believed in checks and balances, not unrestricted license. Possibly the most idiotic thing the Libertarians have tried to foist on people is the idea the people who wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were like them. The people who founded this country based much of the new country's government on Sparta and Rome, two of the more regulated societies in the ancient world.

Of course, our resident fabulist will reject this reality, but anybody can look it up.

The chaos of democracy was considered inferior to a federal republic.

I am willing to give Trump the chance to learn from his mistakes...but this is a mistake. Saying otherwise just makes more mistakes likely.

edutcher said...

We'll see.

Remember we were talking about Trump using the Lefty principle of incrementalism?

Well, there is border wall money in the CR. He also got military increases.

Like Syria, a lot of people may be jumping the gun.

(Surprise!)

I'm just getting you to spout your ignorance, Cliff. It's my rope a dope tactic. You take the bait every time. If you weren't such an asshole I would feel guilty. There is one thing you have shown to everyone, and that is you are the conservative version of a big spending liberal. You want to control people's lives, which is why you were a tax collector auditing waitresses to make sure they declared all their tips.

edutcher said...

You smoke the rope and the dope. You're also a liar if you say I was a collector or an auditor

And here's a little more rebuttal for the nonsense the people who founded this country were Libertarians.

The Libertarians were the Tories who threw up their hands and said, "We can never beat the Crown".

It's time for you two to take it outside or to your own websites or to just stick it up your asses. I don't care where you go with your personal problems or how you resolve them, but you're breaking the rules and fucking up someone else's blog.

Shut the fuck up.

But I'm not going to sit back and take it.

Rabel said...

You may be right, Ed, but I hope you'll agree that it needs to stop. It drives people off as I think you can see by the more recent comment totals.

Please try to resist the temptation or at least conduct your arguments in civil language. I've always found that a little stiletto in the back is more effective than a punch in the face.

One of the things I like about blogs is there is a record. This started on a 4/18/17 post about Gillibrand and McCain proposing legislation on opioids, which the person in question supports. I revealed I am a chronic pain sufferer and the person in question mockingly said, "You're breaking our hearts" and then called me and all chronic pain sufferers, "junkies." You made a good comment on that thread, Rabel. And some folks who rarely comment here also showed empathy. The person in question did not comment further on that thread and then tried to make this about cannabis on other threads. He is incapable of empathy or apologizing.

"We are entitled to our own opinions, but not our own facts."

Ed definitely has an acerbic online personality. For all I know he's an angel in person, but despite his sometimes oversharp tongue he does bring an extensive knowledge of history (filtered through his own insights) and adds a lot of value to Lem's Levity. As do you.

Throw him an occasional "Fuck You" and take one back, just try not to drag it out into an endless stream of insults that carries from thread to thread. Neither of you can win.

I'm done preaching. Unless April shows up.

Back to Trooper's post. I'm mildly disappointed in Trump's resistance to the fools in Congress on domestic issues but I suggest a possibility.

That being that Trump has a bigger fish to fry right now and needs (and is privately asking for) Congressional support in dealing with that and is willing to postpone the domestic fight for now in return.

The fish is Kim Jong Un. I know you are strongly non-interventionist, Trooper, but I don't see how any President can responsibility allow North Korea to develop and deploy a nuclear weapon with the capability of striking American soil. Trump has said that we won't allow it and there was no criticism coming from anyone in the Senate after the recent full-Senate briefing.

Watch for their next nuclear test and watch for a second carrier off their coast. If they do conduct another test we may then see an ultimatum followed by a brief attempt at an international response followed by a large scale strike against their nuclear facilities.

If it happens it won't be like Syria or Libya of Afghanistan. It will be a massive attack that may well lead to all out war. For that he will need the Congress backing him up.

A frightening scenario but what choice do we have if they continue on their current path?

I could be wrong, maybe.

Rabel said...

"Not our problem."

Yes, it is.

I am sorry but calling Ed Cliff is so perfect.

Who here remembers when Paul Ryan was all shoulder shrugs and holding his hands up the last time that a budget was passed to the tune of $1.1 trillion were the words, "We didn't have a choice." were used? Last year. You would think that republicans are basically working for the Islamocrats now. Their cowardice is fucking astounding. There really needs to be political assassinations at this point. I don't see any other alternative. It's the only message they are going to hear. When you see your nearest colleague's brains splattered because you fucked up, it's going to make you think to start working on the people's problems, not your personal enrichment and that of your donors.

Trooper York said...

Rabel the globalists and the neocons see everything as our problem. It is our problem because of our entangling alliances with nations that scorn and hate us and use us to protect them and refuse to pay their fair share.

China can hide behind us because we are defending the Japs and the Korean's. If we took our soldiers and navy out to protect our homeland they would move into what is rightly their sphere of influence. They would have to deal with Korea. They would economically dominate and disrupt Korea and Japan. Which would only be good for American Domestic manufacturing.

Communism is dead. As dead as Napoleon. Why do we need to protect the Koreans from Communism?

1954?

Isn't there a statute of limitations on protecting an ungrateful and treacherous so called ally?

This agreement came about because of the fear of communism. That's over. We are even buddies with freaking Castro now.

When is enough actually enough? Or do we have to spend our blood and treasure forever for the gratification of the neocons and the nation builders?

It's a formal treaty of mutual self defense between the USA and South Korea. You can argue for its termination after one year's notice as provided but as of now we are pledged to its fulfillment. I think you'd find yourself in a small minority, but go for it.

Trooper York said...

Do you think we should still be party to this treaty Rabel? What do we get out of it? What part of our naked self interest does this satisfy? Is it to make us feel good? To make us be the "leader of the free world? To protect them from the commies? What is our vital interest in Korea? We don't have enough barbecue and Karaoke bars?

Why are thousands of our best young men and woman being held hostage to the whims of oriental despots that really have nothing to do with us?

Abrogate the treaty today and bring our boys and girls home now. Put them on the border and we wouldn't even have to build wall.
