What is your go to tip for losing a few pounds?

Reddit top voted comments...

learn that it's ok to feel hungry.  we don't need to immediately satisfy every desire.  in fact, if you're eating when you're NOT truly hungry, well that may be part of the problem.

Start drinking exclusively water, avoid sugary drinks wholly. You'll notice a huge difference in a fortnight

Get really sick. I lost 4kg in 3 days!

Don't always finish your plate; stop eating when you're no longer hungry!

Vote yes to Brexit.

Eat less/better food, get more exercise. Not too much of either at first or you'll fail.

Calories in/calories out. The more calories you exert vs what you take in equals weight loss. Your body operating at caloric deficiency is weight loss. People cutting carbs, anything white, blah blah blah. It's all bullshit. All foods have calories, so eat what you want, but just watch your caloric intake. It's that simple.

There are some exceptions for people with digestive/metabolic/allergy issues.

Why would I want to lose a few pounds - I think the starting premise is flawed.

But if I did, I would reread the works of Gary Taubes and follow his dietary advice.

Cut out gluten. Which is basically bread and pasta. Stick to meat and veg. With light exercise.

I heard Americans are about the fattest people in the world so maybe one should move to another country? Would that work?

Maybe, AJ, maybe.

But blasting off into outer space should definitely work.

Or maybe climbing to the top of a really high mountain!

Eat slowly. Eat w/o any distractions like reading or TV. Eat the protein on your plate first. Eat the carbs last. Have plenty of the healthy food that you like in your cupboards/fridge. Walk after every meal. Even if it's just a block or two. NEVER eat late at night. You should not eat at least 3 hours before going to bed.

Just accept the fact that you have to live with hunger.......I'm just grateful that through my forties i could overeat at will and never gain weight. It was like some kind of superpower. That's over. I do get to sleep a lot more. There's something to be said for sloth, but gluttony and lust are the really worthwhile cardinal sins.

The total futility of dieting. 98% failure rate. That's right, eventually, not within three months but within a year all the losers regain.

Stop eating sugar. That includes pasta, beer and potatoes. No soda, diet or regular. If you do that, you will eat less.

You can fill up on green veggies and meat (I would prefer you avoided beef, but all meat is good). You will find your metabolism readjusts and you will not crave sugar after a while. You are a junkie fatty, give up the junk and you will be fine.

I can't get my head around the incongruity of that statement. Perhaps that's why I can't seem to lose weight.
