"You may not know us, the people beyond your borders, but we know you."

Every foreigner thinks that. You know us so well by our movies! You say so. And one trip here makes you top expert on all things American. You say so. Yet the extreme poverty you notice that lodges in your mind comes as a surprise to you. You say so. And you fail to make the connection that is the reason for Trump. I say so.

The post's title is drawn from a missive posted by Lisa Pryor on the opinion page of NYT, here, with its own title, "Dear America, why did you let us down?" We didn't let you down, Lisa, why are you letting us down with your lame mal-informed weak elegy hosted by the propaganda arm of the DNC, chief supporter of intrusive corrupted government? Huh?

It's sickening, actually, this American voter has no patience left for American political opinion delivered by non-rhotic accent. Yeah, your accent bugs me. Foreigners who barely speak the same language are not nearly so smart nor perceptive as they imagine themselves yet they insist on banging on about all that they know present to them spoon-fed by their own state media. I don't hear Americans chiming in on Australian politics, British politics, nor Canadian politics, yet to a person they all imagine themselves more informed than American voters by the things that they gather via "osmosis" as Lisa puts it, and by their one trip to the U.S. that presumably sampled all fifty states.
The election of Mr. Trump feels like a sudden plunge after a gradual decline. Already he is goading China, befriending President Vladimir V. Putin, disregarding climate change and refusing daily intelligence briefings because he’s “a smart person.” None of this, we fear, will end well for any of us.
Oh for Christ's sake, Lisa, calm yourself. Our political reality is actually, get this, none of your business, as yours is none of our business, and your overwrought misdirected anguish does not make it so.
Earlier this year, Australia’s Department of Defense outlined the long-term outlook for our defense and security, emphasizing that the relationship between the United States and China will continue to be the most strategically important factor in the region.
Then,
And no longer can it be assumed that Australia will always pick the United States over China, if forced to choose.
Ha! Good luck with that. Get over yourself, Lisa, you're making yourself look stupid. Nearly so foolish as Democrats in their efforts to pervert Electoral College, to steal the election, again, and Democrat backers imagining they bought this election fair and square left dazed that their money did not affect politics as they insist Citizens United allows, and Obama insisting Russia has aught to do with our election results, having ridiculed Romney in the debates that the 80's called to say it wants its Russia obsession back, and going out the way he came in with women fainting in his presence, and Michelle going out precisely the same way she came in by using her lofty position by marriage having earned nothing by her own agency, to denigrate America and, seeing only Democrats as valid Americans, casting Americans as having lost hope.

Even as our fundamental hope-meter, the one that measures people putting their money where their hopes are, soars toward 20,000 points.

But we should  be mates and be of good cheer.  Here, Stupid, let's hold hands and together watch Trump's penultimate "thank you" rally. Soon we will not have this top television show to enjoy. He'll be too busy to rally. Unlike Obama who never ceased campaigning, the one thing he can do. You did say that you know us by our media, wouldn't do to leave out anything so important a gauge as this. Which upload shall we watch? Goodness there are a lot of them covering this one event. Oh! Let's watch the one on the Trump TV Network. He always says the same thing, like a well-practiced sermon, very uplifting especially if your religion is government.

And, of course, Little Zero was sooo much smarter.

He made everything work, even if he had to use a pen and a phone, as if he were Augustus Caesar.

We watched some episodes of "Still Game" this past week. Maybe because Netflix recommended it after "Detectorists." Trying it out was my wife's doing.

Anyway, it's quite the thing in that I get maybe 20% of what's going on. I can't tell what's supposed to be funny and what's merely part of the normal conventions of Scottish culture or at least Scottish TV.

It's like I'm a kid again, bewildered at what the grownups are doing.

Difference is back then I was really curious.

Perhaps I should add that I seldom laugh while watching it but something, last night, made me roar. I can't remember what it was. Think I'll go ask the wife.

I gave up on stuff like "'Masterpiece' Theater" because of the impenetrable British accents.

"Since the election I have cried many times, in the shower, in the car........"

This is not an argument. This is blackmail. "You have hurt me so terribly - you who voted to stop the strangulation of economic freedom and all the other associated freedoms in your country - have hurt me so badly that it is incumbent upon the president elect you voted for to make amends by not opposing the further strangulation, by in fact ruling as my beloved Obama has ruled so that my crying will end."

I love how she thinks she knows the country from all the Lefty media (We know about Air Force One from “Air Force One” and the West Wing from “The West Wing”).

That's the problem, sweet cheeks, you don't. You only know about the illusions in which the Left lives and wants to create for the rest of the country.

You want to know about the country, understand why NFL viewership and gate have plummeted this year. Watch some episodes of "The A-Team" or even "The Lone Ranger". Try to figure out why Rust Belt states that have gone Democrat for decades suddenly went for Trump.

You're a white version of Moochelle, whining about how people have lost hope, false hope, at that.

People stopped hoping and started doing.

Ricpic - exactly. Emotional blackmail is all they have left.

I frequent a blog w/ a good number of international contributors. There are plenty like this whining Aussie. But, there are some pretty level headed foreigners, interestingly many from Europe. Those folks are fed up w/ unrestrained immigration and globalization. Look for Merkel to feel their wrath next.

I met some people like this on election night. They had a severe case of Gell-Mann Amnesia.

Chip, would you say you're an angry guy?

Forgive me for not being as up-to-date as the rest of the crew on what could contribute to what seems to be your excessive curmudgeonliness.

I'm reminded of this Paglia rant, where she points out that it is men who have built things and made modern life. Yes, civilization has been spread by at the tip of a sword, but how else would it be?

"Gell-Mann Amnesia"

Perfect. I've noticed it for years, but never knew it had a name. It's really the logical fallacy of appeal to authority, but the authority is just some other guy with a keyboard and his own common human issues of bias, and laziness with delusions of insight and understanding, which he acquired by believing someone else doing the same thing. Bullshit gets spread by everyone who touches it. Then when everyone smells the same, it's called a consensus. Meanwhile the original claim was never even vetted, or challenged. Everyone down the line just assumes it was by some earlier bullshitter.

I'm watching a lot of videos on the new discoveries in Egypt that are changing our comprehension of their history. They're all presented through British accents and it's ruining the whole presentations. Every single one of them. It, and their tautology, and their superfluous dramatics make them sound retarded. People with doctorates sound retarded each with their contrived speech impediment. It makes me want to slap them. . American pronunciation is rare. Apparently Egyptology is not a favorite American pursuit. They are not well represented in any of these videos. That's discouraging. When American accent appears it goes, "ding" in a mud swamp of mangled garbled pronunciation with emphatics in all the wrong places, R's removed and redistributed at random.

As for politics, my annoyance has become acute even when it's someone I enjoy saying sensible things explosively with attractive swears like Milo Yiannopoulos, the Jew.

Psych! You thought I was going to say British gay.

Primarily because it's none of their f'k'n biz wax even though they insist is so because of globalization. They mean by that globalization of their private obsession. And Milo is playing a game, he's jumping in for his own self aggrandizement, so too Farange, having a ride on our political system and profiting best as he can. I'm not saying his contribution has no value, I'm saying he's annoying as all the rest in the same way for the same reasons.

Even him, with his "medier" for media, and "lore" for law, and loreyer for lawyer, and his "God" for guard, and vise versa, and "Americer" for the subject under discussion, and on and on "terrortrees" "dinisties" "yeës" "scoopion" "phayrahs" "litrahlee" "Nahmah" (Narmer) "hahves" (halves) "ehliest" (earliest) "bean" (been) "befoo" "dinisty" "dinisty" "dinisty" "dinisty' over and over and over and over and over and over end over end over end over Andover Andover Andover until your head explodes. It ruins everything because they sound straight up retarded.

Like this, Alabama rehab shown at Ace a few days ago, "Alabamer" "tequiler" "not a part of my laugh".

Weren't you impressed with video of how English sounds at the time of Shakespeare, how close it comes to standard American English?

Something happened along the way with British English similar to Castilian Spanish that resulting from the integration of Arabic and related forms of Mozarabic dialect affecting the Spanish coronal fricative, its ceceo, the shift from s̄ to θ, theta, the voiceless dental non-sibilant fricative. Falsely attributed to King Alfonzo’s speech impediment. Because it sounds retarded. And it feels retarded when your Chilean Spanish professor insists, yes, this is the proper pronunciation.

I posit, American English is truer to the English and that’s obvious by the printed word, and obvious when British sing, where for clarity they sing properly and enunciate their R’s and place them correctly proving they know how to do it but instead, like the French, decided all those extra letters aren’t necessary after all if you just place emphasis on the spots where they’re missing. Laziness, vocalized retardation on a national scale.

Cleopatra had a British accent - in fact, she sounded exactly like Elizabeth Taylor. I saw the movie, and every aspect of Egyptian history portrayed in that movie was spot on.

No, its entertainment. What is more delightful then hearing some absurd left-wing Englishman or Aussie crying over Tump?

God, I love the smell of English tears in the morning. It smells like...victory.

BTW, it is odd, and frankly annoying, how many furriners are on the intertubes crying over Trump and rattling on -in a faux-superior tone -about "Ahmer-ee-ca" and how we're letting them down by not being like them.

Of course, these same types are against Brexit and the UKIP.

This is faux concern from a woman in Oz having no clue about real America. I feel nothing but sorrow for her cluelessness.

How can one answer this woman but to ask her to imagine her accustomed "Australian" way of life under threat of extinction by an unchecked, uncontrolled influx of people to her island nation coupled with a President of 8 years who encourages it.
