LOL! I have always disliked seagulls. But, spending winters in San Diego, I have come to hate those thieves.

I recently made a piece that depicted seagulls. Some see them as waves. I like seagulls, they saved my people from a plague of locusts.

Well, my old man was a whittler. He liked to whittle animals into a block of wood. When we went to the ocean, he would whittle seagulls. He left his tools to me. I never had the skill.

You would feel different about those flying fucking rats if they stole your picnic lunch or swooped and took food right off your grill!

We have a rooftop grill in San Diego. I had some burgers on the grill w/ rolls on the attached table. I was in the kitchen making a salad when I heard the "CAW..CAW..CAW." I ran up and saw a seagull hobbling on the ledge. My neighbor, on his roof banging a heater, was laughing his ass off. He said the gull tried to get the bread but landed on the hot grill and burned the shit out of his feet.

While I shall leave the finer points of ornithology to others, I know from experience that crows go caw, seagulls make more of a screech, and ravens say "Nevermore". It's simple, really.

I remember fishing and some kid fed the seagulls with some of the cut bait. The captain went nuts swearing up a storm (it made the guy from Deadwood look like a pussy in comparison). I thought the kid would collapse from the verbal barrage. His father said, "Hey, the kid has to learn sometime..."

It was awesome.

When he later landed his first blue fin tuna (it was a small one but for a 13 year old it probably almost ripped his arms off), the captain praised him with a barrage of swears (but he knew he had done well).

At the end, he was better for it. Good parenting! It takes a village.

Sixty quoting Ravens..or Poe?

Feeding seagulls anywhere means you are a fucking idiot. You should hear this fucking Greek restaurant owner rip people who feed gulls on his patio. Al Swearingen would blush.

"It takes a village." I KNEW IT! You are a Hillary supporter. I KNEW IT.

The Dude said...

Wait, Al Swearingen used bad language? I never noticed that. Wu, sure, but that's because he only knew one word in English.

We're currently watching Justified a second time. Boyd Crowder's lines are almost as well written and delivered as Swearingen's. Almost. Several actors appeared in both those great series. The pastor playing a hit man in Justified was a nice touch. You pick up stuff the second time you watch a show. My bride and I laugh every time we hear "gun thug" used.

I feel like there should be parts of the boat under the water.

My first thought was that the photo is a fake, as was the case with the iceberg picture a few years ago.

I just binge watched all 8 seasons of House and several actors from Deadwood appeared, including the guy who played Mose, who actually does have nystagmus in real life, and Wu who played the father of a guy who had a rotten jaw bone. In that epi Wu spoke English. Who knew?

Mose also played a good supporting role in the flick, Nobody's Fool. My bride loved House. I liked it.

Wow, Sixty. I liked "House" but I don't think I could bingewatch that many episodes without wanting to punch the guy.

Amartel said...

That is one fat orca.

Probably from following the gravy boat around.

It was only 176 episodes, so it's not as though there were a lot of them.

House was funny as hell - Hugh Laurie is a comedian and his sense of humor shown through the ridiculous nature of the situation (glass walls in a hospital, seriously?). Even given the formulaic and repetitious nature of the "patient has unknown disease or diseases, team treats him, patient's condition worsens, House stares off into space and magically solves the case" shtick, he was able to bring something to the show.

So yeah, I enjoyed it, noticed things like there was a lumbar puncture in nearly every episode, that it was a soap opera within a soap opera, set in a hospital, and best of all, friends of mine who are nurses say that "He kind of downplayed how arrogant most doctors are".

So there you have it.
