Maggies Farm: "There seems to be a cultural disconnect"

Via Instapundit:  Austin, Texas city council member offers good advice to kids, catches hell from the left.

"During Austin’s Thursday City Council meeting many students spoke up from several city-funded groups asking for continued support".
It was what Austin City Council member Don Zimmerman said after the group of students addressed the council in Spanish that is sparking a lot of reaction on Twitter. The students were asking for funds to help their after-school program.
I’d ask for everyone here, including the children, when you grow up, I want to ask you to pledge to finish school, learn a trade, a skilled trade, get a college education, start a business, do something useful and produce something in your society so you don’t have to live off others. Thank you.” Zimmerman said.
Shortly after he made this comment boos could be heard reverberating throughout the audience.

Democrats and Whigs (I know, distinction without difference) desperately need those kids on the Welfare Plantation for the good of Glorious World Socialist Revolution.

How dast that guy offer something intelligent as a rebuttal?

Austin is as deep blue blood progressives as San Francisco. Common sense in city council is something amazing.

There was something called guidance councellors when I went to school. They probably still have those...

I'd imagine it's really hard to be an effective guidance counselor. My experience with guidance counselors was thoroughly unimpressive. Did they say "ricpic, we see genius in you?" That would have inspired me. Instead they threw some rote formula at me (after all, I was the 50th pimply kid they had to face that day) and left me uninspired, or even worse, despired.

Nobody wants to hear the truth.

At least from an old white guy.

If you asked the boo-ers why they were booing, you would not get a coherent answer.
Please be a useful contributing member of society. BOOOOO! Durrrhhhh.

Note how the newsreader sets it up as a message to a group of "hispanic" students. Was the ethnic background an issue for the speaker? No. It was for the news narrative, though.

This is why leftism is a corrosive force. It subsumes the will. It takes away the initiative to strive and thrive. It is devoid of the morality to allow self-determination and instead imposes itself upon your soul as a collective parasite sucking on the production of others with no regard to the equity they enrich you with.
