Pandora listening with Charles Bukowski?

I enjoy listening to music. As we all do. I have eclectic tastes. Everything from Julie London to James Brown. The Talking Heads to Sidney Bechet. Louie Prima to Sinead O’Conner. So I really am starting to love Pandora.

You all know that Pandora is the music streaming app that you can put on your phone or ipad. You simply set up a channel by naming a favorite artist or band and then it streams music of that group or similar bands non-stop. Or stopped only occasionally by a commercial. You can get a commercial free feed for a few dollars more but it is not worth it.

I really enjoy listening to music while I am cooking or taking a shower or just sitting on the couch reading. Recently I have been spending a lot of time in a hospital visiting so I listen with ear phones. It really passes the time effortlessly.

Streaming video is also great if a little more time consuming. You can get Netflicks, Amazon Prime and Hulu on your Ipad and there are literally hundreds of choices of things to watch.

Add the kindle app to the Ipad and you have all the bases covered. You can listen to music or watch a TV show or read a best seller to kill some time with one little device. What a change from the days when you needed a Walkman with a bunch of cd’s or cassette tapes. Forget about watching a movie! I mean you weren’t going to carry a Zenith console TV around with you are you?

With all the choices you can find a lot of stuff to do instead of blogging ya know what I mean?

Yup. I hadn't heard of Pandora until some of you guys talked about it some months ago. Absolutely love it. Currently sitting in our screen porch listening to good music while sipping a little bourbon. Simple living here in rural flyover country is good.

Isn't it great. I am in my backyard listening to jazz while I barbecue some steaks.

I set up a station with the Peter Gunn theme so I get all these great jazz riffs that were the themes for shows in the 1950's and '60's. Way cool!

I love Pandora. I've discovered some great musicians. Every once in a while, something catches my attention and I look up to see who the artist is. I check them out on YouTube, and if I like them, I get some CDs. Pokey LaFarge, Melody Gardot, Tony Furtado, and Anders Osborne, and Josh Ritter are five who come to mind who I first heard on Pandora. Anders is, hands down, my favorite musician.

I've been a pandora member since day one. I love the service, but sometimes it goes of into the weeds and I have to switch stations for a few hours and come back to the station I was listening to and get it back on course. I've discovered quite a few bands and new talent because of it and have become fans of them. Much better than terrestrial radio by universes.

Just signed up for Panda.

They demanded my age. How rude.
They demanded my sex. How rude. Then, get this, they only give two options. Chuh! How limiting and myopic, heteronormative, cisnormal, gender binary and otherizing.

OMG, it's playing Tainted Love. How did it know? I've practiced this song since I was 14 years old and I mean it, look, you can just take these tears and that's not nearly all.

Then in the end he flips, you notice that. Contradicts everything that precedes the last line.

Did Panda get into my i-tunes? Because that was opened and I didn't open it.

One of the great things about living in New Orleans is the food and music. We used to catch Osborne regularly at the Mid-City Rock & Bowl, or uptown at the Maple Leaf Bar or Madigans on S. Carrollton at Riverbend. SOoooo many good musicians and bands in New Orleans plus all the ones that come thru. Paradise..

I've got IThunes but I still like the randomness flipping around the radio dial when I'm in the car.

er, ITunes.

I bought an Amazon Echo via Lem's site on Prime Day. "Alexa, play Pandora", and off it goes.

@virgil,

We caught him in Atlanta back in February. Amy Helm opened for him. Excellent show. Another great NO band is Galactic. Love to catch them at Tipitina's sometime. Worth the 12 hour drive, imho.

I discovered Galactic on WMVY, a radio station out of Martha's Vineyard that I listen to on i-Tunes. They also introduced me to Umphrey's McGee, Susan Tedeschi, and Grace Potter & the Nocturnals.
