'Racist' Pool Safety Poster: Red Cross Alopologizes

NBCA Red Cross Hospital signboard that carried a "super racist" message about swim safety guidelines for children prompted an apology from the hospital on Tuesday.

The dialogue opened on Twitter after a photo circulated of the poster in Fort Morgan, Colorado. The poster, which has since been taken down, read at the top: "Be Cool, Follow the Rules." Below the heading were depictions of children playing. The white children were labeled as behaving "cool" while children of color were depicted as misbehaving, or "not cool," for breaking pool safety rules.

Red Cross has since confirmed that it has discontinued the production of the poster and has already removed it from the hospital's website and Swim App.

Since black people don't swim much, taking them out would be reflecting life.

Of course, we couldn't do that.

What's the "not cool" guy in the center of the picture doing wrong? Drowning, maybe? Peeing?

Politically correct affirmative action drivel.....cool.

Telling the truth about peoples behavior.....not cool.

Ever seen black kids in a public pool? Case closed.

Meth, Yes I have. Municipal pools seem to be a training ground for future Trayvon's and Michael Brown's. Now, when there's a parent or adult supervising them, they seem to be close to white kids behavior wise. However, they are almost always there unsupervised. And, it's not just a behavior problem, but also safety. A lotta these black kids can't swim or even tread water. There aren't many rescues @ the pool I swim, but when there is it's often black kids who jump into the deep end and panic, w/ no adult keeping an eye out for them. It's all on the staff.

edutcher, Our man Joe Frazier damn near drowned in The Battle of the Network Stars swimming competition. Hilarious.

One reason that you don't find many blacks in Spec Ops is the swimming test.

Drives the Lefty bean counters crazy.

We totally owned the officer's club pool at Barksdale AFB. That base was the best. We ran over the entire club. Went through the places we didn't belong. Explored. It's where I leaned the word cocktails. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha that's what grownups drink cock tails ha ha ha ha ha. That still kills me.

What a dumb thing to call drinks.

Then we realized we could collect the pins for NCO club and for Airman's club too and nobody ever once challenged our belonging or question who is our parent. For a class system like that, they really didn't care. The pins were regular bobby pins with a colored metal tab on them and an embossed number, very easily replicated. That's all. Free ticket to ride. We could swim underwater the full length of airman's pool in one breath. First we went width-ways then we went long ways, then we went double width ways, then double long ways.

As kids we could do virtually whatever we wanted and get away with it. In the officer's club nobody we encountered questioned our presence. Just some officer's kids, they assumed, leave 'em alone.

Rating: Officers club largest and most glam ladies mostly sunning. Not many children to speak of. Quiet and pristine.

NCO club. Mid size most active. Most people on the grass. Most things going on. Most kids our ages. Most people from school. Very crowded active and loud

Airman's club: Most very young families with very young children. Babies. Our age children were sparse and had the run of the pool. Smallest pool but very nicely appointed. Quiet toned down and modest. Spartan. The most fun for us and the best hike to the place past very tall bamboo like grass. The whole thing is total win.

Obviously mixed race all three.

Now, skiing, that's where race tilts heavily caca zoid.

What a weird thing to pick out of a poster, the complainers are obviously racist and exceedingly race-sensitive. Ugh.

Hi, my name is Sixty, and I can't ski.

Hi, Sixty...

I tried to ski once, honest I did, on Mt. Hood. I have ridden my bicycle up Mt. Adams, camped on Mt. Ranier, I once drove past Mt. Shasta and many other Cascade volcanoes, but when I strapped those boards to my feet and tried to slide down the snow pack above Timberline Lodge, I failed, miserably. My coworkers from the frozen north mocked my innate inability to ski. I WAS BORN THIS WAY! Dammit, it's not as though just anyone can ski. I am so ashamed...

Thank you for allowing me to tell my sad story, and if you don't mind, I am going to have some coffee and cookies...

What's funny about the poster is how many POC's there are. When i go to Hawaii, i see few blacks and they're always sunning themselves on the beach - not surfing or swimming in the water.

We never had the guts to go to the officer's club. But the NCO club pool was so great, we never wanted to.

BTW, we had a black family next door to our Army housing and played with them constantly. But we never saw them at the NCO pool.

Never even thought to ask why. What really amazed me about them is their Dad had like a 1000 Jazz LP's. And he wasn't a musicians.

We had like 20.

Derbyshire long ago, on a gentrified public pool near the 'hood

Linguistically, this whole zone is a mess. It's a mess because we're afraid to speak honestly about what's going on. When people are afraid to speak honestly, it's because there are true facts in the world that they'd prefer not to face.

True facts like these: For white yuppies from gentrified neighborhoods, a free public swimming pool is a place to swim a little, sunbathe a little, have fun with the kids a little if you're married, flirt a little if you're not, and catch up on some reading. For young blacks and Hispanics from the projects, it's a place to show off, status-challenge other young toughs, get in fights, and defy authority.

The two things don't mix. Whoever thought they would — whoever spent $50 million to bring this pool back to commission, with open admission for all who show up — is an idiot, an idiot whose brain has been addled by the kind of dishonest, reality-defying linguistic malpractice on display in the New York newspapers this week.

The guy in the middle of the pool is pooping. That's a rule we can all get behind regardless of skin color. A turd has no race, and no rights........yet.

I guess now it's racist to take issue with the African American pedestrian war against traffic signals. "I will cross this walk even if it's red, fool!"

ndspinelli said...

rhardin, Malls have also become the new showcase to show your bad ass blackness.

ndspinelli said...

Ritmo, In very liberal Madison a walkway was built over a busy road to help people cross. It is near a black neighborhood. They don't use the walkway, just jaywalk w/ a big chip on their shoulder.

There are few blogs where we good people could say what we just have and not be called "raaacists!" I have black friends that I say this shit to and we are substantially in agreement. White liberals and black SJW's are the problem. My buddies are just normal black people,
