As a severely disabled man myself — I was born with spinal muscular atrophy, a progressive neuromuscular weakness that renders me quadriplegic — I'm loath to give this movie any additional publicity. But the timing of the release could not be any more disturbing. Just a week after, on June 9, California's so-called Death with Dignity law takes effect. The repercussions of this ghoulish juxtaposition are positively frightening.
The law — styled after its predecessors in Oregon and Washington — permits physician-assisted suicide in the nation's most populous state, under strict regulatory controls. Nothing to worry about, supporters say. It applies only to those with terminal conditions who have been thoroughly evaluated by medical professionals.
I wish I could believe it. But all the safeguards in the world are nothing against the power of Hollywood to influence sentiments. (read more)

In this right-to-die climate, we're forced to defend our right to live...
Modernism is the sum of all heresies. It replaces the value of life with the value of death, of no longer being an 'inconvenience' to self and others.
My cousin Stacey is a single woman in her early 50s. She was dating a really nice man, a vet and deputy sheriff named Brian, also in his 50s. After a couple of years of dating Brian was diagnosed as having ALS. Tragic.
Stacey retired. The married. Brian retired. They sold both of their homes and are having a home built for them that will have every accessible feature needed for Brian to live out his increasingly difficult life.
Brian will lose all of his abilities, Stacey will be his full-time caregiver, and will have aides assist when needed.
Life does not become less valuable when someone becomes disabled and dependent. If anything, that life becomes more valuable. The notion that anyone who is disabled should consider suicide for the convenience of others is abhorrent, as are those who propagate such an awful philosophy.
May no temptation take hold of you but such as man is equal to. God is faithful and will not permit you to be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also give you a way out that you may be able to bear it. (I Corinthians 10:13)
I read the book - really enjoyed it.
The Left really loves Death, if you think about it.
To get what it needs from you, the Left deadens your soul, your ambition, and it must deaden most of your more positive traits if it is to get what it wants from you.
And, when you are of no further use in furthering its goals, the Left expects you to die, promptly and with as little fuss as possible.
Abortion is trending in the righteous direction. Ironically, science is a big part of that. People w/o an religious beliefs see on ultrasound there is a person in the uterus. So, I guess the left decided to open a 2 front war on life and attack from the other end.
Chrissake, edutcher and I seem to be linked. That's the 2nd time in a week we have written the same thoughts. Well, I still think cannabis should be legal!!
When I read the book I didn't think it was glorifying assisted suicide.
Now that Hollywood has their grubby agenda-mitts on it...
*spoiler***** Nobody wanted the main character to die. But that's where the article makes a good point. Will this movie create a paradigm that encourages pressure on those with severe disabilities to feel like they must commit suicide even if they don't want to? I hope not.
Borrowed from Ace:
"The Left hates standards - moral standards, artistic standards, cultural standards.
...And finally, we come to the Left's loathing of the religions of Western civilization - the Judeo-Christian religions, with their clear standards of right and wrong. Bible-based religions affirm a morally judging God. For the Left, that is anathema. For the Left, the only judging allowed is Leftist judging of others. No one judges the Left. Neither man nor God."
Just take a pain pill.

A quadriplegic worker offers no value to the socialist party or the state. They are just one more mouth to feed with dwindling resources. If the condition could have been detected prior to birth, then it would have ended before it began.

It is called de-sensitizing. Exposing you to more and more violence. More depravity. Piling on more and more rules and regulations. Until you just don't care anymore. Like the brain washing in 1984 until you learn to love Big Brother after all.
Things in today's society that we don't like, hate and even abhor but still tolerate (because after all what can one person do....right?), would have thrown previous generations into apoplexy. Abortion, murder, rape, child abuse, animal abuse, government assisted suicide, withholding care from the elderly and the disabled so they will just die already. Moving on to just killing those inconvenient elderly, disabled, retarded, unwanted.....and no one will care because Big Brother says it is for the general good.
Our society has become desensitized. Numb. And that is just how they want it to be. Our eyes are glazed over and Big Brother or his evil twin Big Nanny are in charge.
Of course socialist and ISIS are one in the same. Both believe in the coming destruction of mankind. Sure, ISIS belief is in the Muslim version of Revelations, and Socialist simply believe that Gaia can't support 6 billion+ people. But both believe the world would be a better place with maybe a hundred million people or less.

So, does that mean I'm winning?

Zeke Emanuel and the whole Useful Lives bit. And, of course, brother Tippytoes presiding over the abattoir that is Chiraq.
(although I thought all those wonderful Negroes did serve a purpose, voting Democrat, but even they seem to be expendable, now that we're importing Moslems and Central Americans)

Worthy of Chesterton.
Man In The High Castle addresses the issue also.
Of course, it is not a choice, they just cart you off and put you down in that world.
Is it just me or is the right-to-die movement basically a back door into the government eventually taking the reigns of that law and possibly applying arbitrary medical necessity to end life if it is deemed to be a hazard to the state whether financially or philosophically? Also, we need to disabuse ourselves of the notion that there is dignity in death. Death regardless of how it comes to us all is neither dignified nor grandiose. This romanticization of death as being dignified is fatuously undignified. It can be peaceful, it can be quiet, it can be timely, but there is no dignity in it whatsoever.
Methadras, I agree with you on that. Death is just death. There is something about controlling circumstances (as much as you can) towards the end, money is for most people an issue, but often it comes and that's that.
The "death panels' are baked into Obamacare.
I have dealt w/ the average amount of death in my personal life. I've dealt w/ much death in my professional life. The death of children is the worst. With this experience, what I think God has called me to do is to help those dealing w/ death, be they the dying, or the loved ones of those dying. As many deaths as I have encountered, they are all unique. The people I have the most difficulty w/ are those w/ no belief in the afterlife. But, I still try and help them.
A quadriplegic thinks it over and then decides on suicide. I don't expect boffo box office.
I looked it up on IMDB. It has a high rating. It could be the best damned movie ever made about a suicidal quadriplegic, and I still would not want to see it.......The movie stars Emilia Clarke as the romantic interest. She's Khaleesi on GOT, but in this movie she doesn't have blonde hair or dragons. If there's any sex at all, it's bound to be in good taste. I just don't understand who the market is for this movie.
