In what small, meaningless ways do you rebel?

Each month when I pay the Cox cable bill, I write "Cocks" instead of "Cox" on the check. It has never been returned and I've been doing it for ten years.
I never wish anyone happy birthday on facebook.
When a client pisses me off I don't capitalize the first letter in their name when I bill them.
I follow the traffic rules, wait at red lights, use indicators for switching lanes, follow lanes, and refrain from honking. I live in India
I'm a Londoner, born and bred. I smile at people in the street and occasionally engage total strangers in conversation.

I noticed a rebel against me from My Aunt's leftwing Church.

She donated 25,000 to this rich leftist church, and they sent me a thank you with my name completely botched. Not the usual botch. A whole new letter in front of my last name.

I dont write any kind of reviews for apps, Amazon, cable nothing.

I did tell google the blogger iphone app sucks. Then again, the suckiness might be a rebellion on the part of google towards apple.

Is not voting rebellious?

Just curious.

ndspinelli said...

Lem, Yes it is. The rebellions listed in the post are mostly passive-aggressive. We have become an obtuse, passive-aggressive, feminine culture. I have some rebel in me but I like for it to be direct. One of my rebellions is using cash for most of my purchases. I use credit cards for gas and hotels. You realize the govt. wants you to use credit and debit cards? It's about control. So, my using cash is saying, "Fuck you" to the govt.

One of the rebellions mentions driving in India. This country has become one that doesn't signal most of the time. I am a professional observer of human behavior. And, I drive a lot. In just the past 3-5 years we have gone from a country where people used their turn signals probably 80% of the time, to where it is now certainly less than 50%. Women signal much less than men. I'm certain cell phones are part of the reason but not the only. I don't think it's a rebellion. I think it's insularity and narcissistic.

That Indian dude who considers it a form of rebellion to drive responsibly? That would be funny if it weren't so scary (that most don't). I was on YouTube and don't ask how, suddenly I was watching twentysomething girl blogs about fashion and skin care and the impossible boyfriend. Anyway, one of the bloggers was blogging in her car and of course she was driving while simultaneously talking frenetically on her phone, doing something with an eyeliner and rummaging in her oversize bag. I reminded myself to never forget that that's who I'm sharing the road with and to drive accordingly. But of course I will at some point forget and then BANG POW CRASH.

I was in Ikea yesterday and there was a mixed race couple, dad was black, mom was white and they had a 2 year old and he was sitting in the shopping cart just screaming his fucking head off and it wasn't just annoying whine, it was just top-of-the-lungs-I'm-being-murdered-blood-curdling-burst-eardrum screaming. Over and over and over again. Finally I had enough and I walked by the kind and we made eye contact and I gave him a dirty look and he shut up right then and there, but the mom caught me giving the death stare to the kid and she said, "Don't look at my baby like that." and I looked right straight in the dad's eyes cause he didn't say shit (which I expected him to at least say something) and I said, "Well, keep your baby from screaming like a murdered retard and I will. He's disrupting everyone and the environment we are ALL SHARING WITH YOU and you are doing nothing. So here I am." and she became indignant that I didn't address her and she says, "You don't talk to him, you talk to me." I just shot right back and said, "Dude, grow a pair and punch both of them in the throat. I've got shelves I gotta go buy." and I walked away.

Then the expletives followed as I left. I was half expecting to get thrown out, but I got stares and nods from other men and even some women as I walked away. Didn't hear that baby again until I left. That's how I rebel, staring down screaming babies with my death stare.

On some forms there is the selection of other with a space to write down what you are and one time I was trying to figure out what would be the most asinine ethnicity I could come up with and I came up with a Antarctic-Laocean of Plutonion descent. The girl that took the form didn't even blink a fucking eye when she say it. Because if you see my name and then see the ethnicity that I just wrote down and most people would be what the shit? Nothing.

I hate when a website demands your set up an ID and a password and when you put in your standard password, it rejects it and says "you must have a special character, upper and lower case letters and numbers before and after the letters". Ridiculous right ? But i follow the instructions and type in BloWMe2X@#. That ususally works and I never go again to that website. I bet they get a lot of passwords like that.

Meth just be keepin' it real @ IKEA. I will sometimes just start screaming like the petulant child. Only I have a booming voice and drown out all other noise. Almost invariably the kid will stop. Parents react differently. Some are embarrassed. Some angry. If they confront me I calmly tell them, "Kids aren't born knowing how to act in public. Parents need to teach them. I just showed your child how disruptive it is to scream in public. That is your job that you failed @ doing." In Wisconsin most parents don't confront me. Cheeseheads don't like confrontation unless it's about Walker.

The local recycling program wants us to wash our tin and plastic food containers and remove the labels before putting them in the recycling container. Not doing that, and I don't, doesn't seem like rebellion so much as dragging my feet until they figure out a way to make us recycle by the rules. But it is a small and meaningless act.

The Dude said...

I am leaning towards throwing all my recyclables in the garbage - it all ends up in the landfill, anyway.

I build big fires - a have a carbon footprint that DiCaprio would envy.

ndspinelli said...

Dad Bones, that stripping and cleaning is so 2009. You folks need a new recycling company. In the flick Serial Mom, the Kathleen Turner character kills a neighbor because she didn't recycle.

Any act of rebellion has meaning like getting paid for sex makes one a whore no matter the price.

This idea our acts have no meaning is idiocy. It is from minds thinking they should be a rap star or football hero or policeman or big Buckley commentator seated across from The Next Reagan debating the damn Panama Canal, its history and future as we shall determine in courses due.

Any racist want to call the old Indian knowledgable wisdom about feeding the good/bad wolves of each man's mind?

Catholic understanding can relate to this I bet, just on my feelings though not direct absolute knowledge.

If you spend all of your days planning on how to rob the bank, God probably would have had better realms of existence for you in His word, capiche?

The actual robbing is actually secondary in this divine sense, though not the legal one unless the damn conspiracy men's rea is deemed or decided beyond a deeming somehow.

Guildofcannonballs said...

Look, there is a direct line of understanding emitting from the mindset saying "I choose to rebel as a wimpy meaningless gesture so I can call mysel rebel like Kid Rock" and "where's the War so I can manifest my harem."

Billy Idol talked about "with a Rebel yell."

Outlaw is a term lawful folks use to rebel.

Tangent: the greatest pun ever, Mark Steyn's "tree-ring circus" is fast approaching my greatest one-liner ever.

"Honey, I forgot to duck."

Unbeatable. I almost hope it is bullshit otherwise Steyn wins, and I don't want no mo cynicism. It is boring me. Over. Poor. Deluded in a repellant manner peerless (though not the worst, just without peer, although it ain't good neither normative come to think of it desirewise).

Guildofcannonballs said...

Elm not voting if your wife is running for elective office is rebellious if revealed, and the revelation doesn't depend on time (i.e. before the vote or after) but the localized context which is very-much time dependent.

Couple minutes from death after 70 years together? Not rebellious.

In front of a camera on Election Day with your opponent's slogan and pic on a badge? Rebellious.

No case is worth caring for in the grey/gray area that most most most inhibit nearly all the time, until Trayvon or Ballon Boy is what we are told to consider in place of God.

The lyric "I met the President when I was half-stoned" is the most proper thing our Founding Fathers could relate to twaord us.

Just a coincidence.

Guildofcannonballs said...

God has given, absolutely, so I would never want to imply He cares or isn't all-knowing. All, even mysterious evil, is is His because of Him.

I mean only to say all men are unknowing way way way more to a very certainly laughable extent, if that satisfies your questions of This Homined. I am so nearly disgustingly ignorNt of "my religion" I regret everything I have thought or written about it unless ecumenical
and in a kindly offering way so as not to feed my enemies on Earth fire without a stratigey if indeed that tactic has desirable outcomes compared faithfully to others.

Doyle Brunson once wrote, and lived it most importantly, that the best thing for his game was nobody knew him.

That didn't happen after a while, but that was his biggest advantage.

Think of that. As 180 degrees as my limited brain can conceive, I would think being known as High Wahle Exulted would be a brand worth something like accountants designate goodwill. In poker.

And in marketing and wealth for him it was.

But not in poker.
