President Jackson to be replaced on the $20 dollar bill

Moments ago Politico reported that the U.S. Treasury will announce that it plans to replace former President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with Harriet Tubman, the sources said. There will also be changes to the $5 bill to depict civil rights era leaders.
Presenting an artist's impression of what your new $20 bill will soon look like.

It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their own selfish purposes. - Andrew Jackson

There is no better way to honor the participation of the Jacksonian working class political awakening then taking him off the currency. Nice.

Yesterday I read three possibilities were Rosa Parks, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Susan B. Anthony. Tubman is a better choice by far.

Kiss TN good-bye this Fall.

Tubman is a better choice by far.

Old Hickory fought the Creeks, the British, opened the West, and gained FL.

The better choice is already there.

They've done this because they can always play the violins about the Trail of Tears and make the ignorant think it's justice.

The only possible choice that could even come close to Jackson among American blacks is Martin Luther King and even he falls short.

Let me re-phrase, whichever bill they decide to put the first woman on, I whole-heartedly approve of the Tubman choice.

Horseshit. Read up on Tubman.

I would put Wilt Chamberlain on the $20. Twenty signifies the number of white women he fucked daily.

I'd put the three stooges on the fifty.

Nope, Jackson was one of the great Presidents.

And I hate tokenism. It's more of that soft bigotry of low expectations. When there's a black American who can surpass what he did, I'll be the first to applaud.

This is like naming a ship of the line for Carl Levin.

Que?

When we've earned enough to pay all our taxes.

Who's next? Jefferson to be replaced by the crying indian on the $2 bill? Shit, I'd rather see Spiderman on the $10 at this point.

deborah said...

And I said not necessarily to replace Jackson. It's not tokenism, it's recognition.

I must confess I don't remember hearing about this woman in my short stay at the Holiday Inn last night... no, I meant high school.

Know who's on the two dollar bill? Jefferson, that's who. Know what's on the back of it? Trumbull's Declaration of Independence, that's what.

Go forth and solve some crossword clue somewhere.

The FRB collected the goofy 2's submitted by all of the regional banks and I have access to them right there out of the elevator on the first basement floor where the Money Dept. is and a widow with thick green bulletproof glass is open in the morning before turning left and entering a series of lock down doors with the same glass into the currency sorting work area with the same glass. Machines similar to their check sorting machines sort currency denominations instead. The few oddball 2's each day are kicked out and made available to employees to buy. So I did. All of them. For jokes. Because cash drawers are not made for them. Because they cause confusion all around. Because they're weird. And goofy. And fun.

It's only money.

They passed the opportunity to drive two antagonisms at once by not introducing a new $15.00 bill.

Incidentally, lost in the discussion so far that I've seen, is the confession required of the provocation. To provoke for 15 minimum wage you must first confess under your leadership minimum wage and living wage mean the same thing. Under your economic guidance, your affection for regulation, you must insist no difference between the two terms. They've blended now because of you .They are now the same thing. Because of you. Confess that first. Acknowledge that. Then we can talk. Until then we're speaking two separate languages and displacing responsibility for the way things are. And the way things are is minimum was IS living wage and that's why it must be jacked higher. Even though we already know that will displace certain workers completely. The ones you're intending to help. To drive your silly ass point you really should have considered a new 15 dollar bill. No cash drawers for it. Not much use for it. Makes a provocative statement. The perfect utility of your style passed up. Oh well.

She's best known for her, "Ain't I A Woman?" speech. If you want a black orator, Frederick Douglass was far more influential.

deborah said...

No, it's not.

Politicians hate cash. They can't control or track you if you use cash. I am in the upper 1-2% of people who use cash. I almost always have a few hundred w/ me. This is an homage to the homeys who use cash a lot. Only snobs use cards. We regular, ethnic, blue collar raised, guys use cash. Men use cash more than women.

People still carry cash? They put Sacagawea on the dollar coin, and then quit circulating it. Tokenism, pure and simple. Put her on the $50, because the rate of inflation will make that bill more valuable to carry long term.

edutcher said...

My bad.

"Ain't I A Woman?" was Sojourner Truth.

Trooper York said...

I thought it was Aretha Franklin?

edutcher said...

Aretha sang "Emancipation".

deborah said...

No, it's not.

You need to reference your replies, kid.

deborah said...

Not that one, bub.

edutcher said...

Don't get mad.

We are allowed to disagree.

Me no mad...but you knew what I was referencing. Or did I mess up your reply system ~evil wink~

Secession can't come soon enough.

edutcher said...

If you mean Carl Levin (?), I use that to emphasize how much this is for show.

Levin was supposed to be the Demos' best guy on defense, but, of course, hated the military.

Same idea. This is about spitting on people.

ricpic said...

The checkout girls always ask me if I want the penny change back. Of course I do!

deborah said...

Where are you seceding to?

deborah said...

It costs 1.7 cents to make a penny.

Trooper York said...

I thought Carly Simon sang "Emancipation?"

I understand that why they want to put Harriet Tubman on the currency but why did they use the photo of Michelle Obama without makeup?

I still have some Eisenhower dollars around here somewhere.

And based on the competency of the current administration I am surprised they didn't use a picture of Aunt Jemima for their press release.

As far as artwork on money is concerned I much prefer the Alphonse Mucha 100 korun note from Republic of Czechoslovakia that they issued in 1920, or the double eagle coin by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Now there was money you would be proud of.

One thing is for sure, no matter who wins in November, (Hillary or Trump) - we will all be closer to dressing like her, because we will all be poorer.

Did you know that Trump(D) criticized Governor Scott Walker for NOT raising taxes on Wisconsinites? Yeah - he did that. Trump likes to uses the left's standard issue criticisms.

Clues.

The first thing that I want President Trump to do is replace Harriet Tubman on the 20 with Farrah Fawcett.

deborah said...

Shouldn't she be on the ten?

Titus said...

Tubby needs a makeover for the bill.

I recommend hair extensions, a large rack, scrap the Aunt Jemima scarf and go with a fabulous sequined beret.

Also, Coco Channel couture would be a nice touch.

And Cartier jewels.

More complicated than that, but the Cruzzers, desperate to change the subject, are grasping at straws since it looks like there won't be a second ballot.

If a choice had to be made, Tubman was a good choice.

Betty Page belongs on the fifty.

Methadras said...

How soon before Harriet Tubman halloween costumes come out? By the way, aren't they going to institute this around 2030 or so? Black Lies Matter would put out a press release talking about justice delayed is justice denied.

I'm already imagining the graffiti and other alterations that will be made to those bills. People are pretty creative you know. I should be entertaining.

Remember folks, this is what RMPC's think is change. They believe this is anti-colonial payback. Change the system, get rid of whitey, and the utopian plan can come into effect and all will be great. They really believe this shit. Little do they forget the successive victories over time that got us here in the first place. If it wasn't for people like Tubman or Lincoln, Douglas, and various other people of courage, black people and slavery would still be the norm. I mean, it still is in many african and middle eastern countries, but I digress.

deborah said...

Greta just said something sensible...instead of stirring up controversy over the twenty, introduce a twenty-five for Tubman. That works for me. You know how sometimes you want to put money in a card, and twenty is not enough, but thirty seems lame, plus you have to use more than one bill.

AllenS said...

The 25 dollar bill wouldn't work, because there are only so many slots(?) for bills in the cash register. Trooper, ain't I right?

AllenS said...

To commemorate my birthday this year, I want to be on the $70 bill.

deborah said...

Oh, snap.

You have my vote.

rcocean said...

I'll start referring to them as "Aunt Jemimas" - If someone asks to change a fifty$ I'll say "Will Two Aunt Jemimas and ten do?"

rcocean said...

In my lifetime I've seen Harriett Tubman go from a minor token Historical figure to bumping Andy Jackson off the $20 - now that's racial progress.

Allen, A hefty campaign donation could make that happen.

A while ago people were asked to vote for a woman to go on currency. I voted for Tubman. Other than not being a president or something, she at least was a heroine, brave and amazing... and not freaking Margaret Sanger... who was one of the other choices. The other choices sucked. Badly. And someone made a good point, I thought. They're going to do this no matter what so you ought to participate or else we'll end up with freaking Margaret Sanger on our money.

So I voted.

ndspinelli said...

I had to Google Margaret Sanger. You are absolutely correct!

I saw a guy on Mission Beach wearing a t-shirt, "I don't need Google, my wife knows EVERYTHING."

For those who haven't been, Mission Beach is not snobbish. Belmont Park in he heart of Mission Beach is an ethnic, blue collar, attraction.

Better Jackson than Hamilton. Hamilton at least believed in banks and bank notes. Jackson wanted to do away with currency and use Indian scalps as legal tender. He was a hard man that Jackson........I'm not really invested in Jackson or Tubman and don't much care either way, but here's my hostile comment. Why do heroic blacks with a thirst for justice and freedom only appear in white dominated societies. Where is the Harriet Tubman of Mauritania or the Martin Luther King of Uganda?

that is the bright side. I least we were spared E. Roosevelt or S.B. Anthony or N. Pelosi on the $20

I like Tubman, but why the big fuss over a 'woman' on our currency? Its just a social construct. Stop pushing your gender stereotypes.
