KLEM FM

lyrics after the jump

Roughin' it in the great outdoors
Guidebooks tell us where to go
Winnebago Warrior

Slow down traffic climbing hills
30 gallons to the mile
Honey, quick, the polaroid

[Chorus]
Winnebago Warrior
Brave as old John Wayne
Winnebago Warrior
A true yankee pioneer

Stop at Stuckey's for a meal
Blab all day on the CB
Winnebago Warrior

Littered campgrounds, folding chairs
Feed Doritos to the bears
Honey, quick, the Polaroid

Kill some fish down by the creek
Hang their picture by the sink
Show your grandson who's the boss

Tie your two toat-goats to the front
U-Haul trailer full of souvenirs
That you buy along the way

"Feed[ing] Doritos to the bears" is almost as bad as feeding Lucky Charms to tarantulas.

I would like to make a statement, if I may:

Fuck Uncle Sam and his fucking income tax. And that fucking Koskinfuck can ESAD.

Thank you. I feel very slightly better now.

@Rabel: Yeah, we earned less and paid more taxes this year. But part of it is losing mortgage interest deduction because we're closing in on the end of it.

Speaking of taxes, I've seen reporting that Bernie paid an effective tax rate of 13.5%. I've also seen multiple reports that he had deductions of $140,000 on AGI of $205,000. Those numbers do not compute. I haven't found any reporting of how he came up with that sizeable deduction. I haven't found an actual copy of the released return. Anybody?

It looks like the $140,000 should be $14,000., but the $140,000 number is all over the internet, including "reputable" news sources.

Wait until Hillary or bernie get in. Say goodbye to most of the rest of it.

If you are self employed you have access to many more deductions and techniques than a person who is working exclusively as a W2 employee. Plus if you are a recipient of passive activity income or there are losses that can be passed through, you can also have some significant deductions. So without looking at Bernie Sanders' actual situation, it is entirely likely that he has this level of deductions.

We are self employed and have a S Corp for our business, which means that the company pays a regular salary to us, so in some ways we are W2 employees. The company pays its share of FICA and taxes as do we as the normal deductions and withholding from salary. This salary needs to be considered adequate (large enough) and normal for a business of our size to keep the IRS from saying we are taking just a token. This is very important. This and NOT commingling personal and business expenses. You can't treat the business like your personal piggy bank. Therefor, completely separate accounts and bookkeeping for personal and business. Never the twain shall meet.

However, the company also rents a building from us and pays us lease fees for equipment and some vehicles. The company writes us a rental and lease check each month along with the salary checks. This means that we do not pay employment taxes on that other income, meaning it is free from Social Security etc and is reported on our personal taxes as income and is a deduction for the company.

The company can have all sorts of other deductions for legitimate operating expenses, just like self employed Schedule C filer would have. Cost of goods, legal fees, deduction for the employee taxes and unemployment premiums, operating costs. equipment purchased, computer costs, taxes paid, automotive expenses, share of utilities for the rented building etc.

Any profits that the business has made are passed through to us on our personal taxes and so are the losses. We don't experience any losses so generally have some pass through income. But, on our personal taxes we have mortgage deductions as well as the standard deductions and can depreciate the rented building, as a tax deduction, because it is exclusively used for business purposes.

Bernie could be a passive participant in an LLC or other pass through entities that are experiencing losses.

Having a good CPA is paramount!!!!

I forgot, also deductions for charitable contributions or to other types of tax sheltered charitable vehicles. Foundations and trusts as well. Lots of ways.

Unless this is a fake, the Sanders income tax story has be totally, absolutely, completely been misreported by...everybody in the media.

Added - it's from Bernie's website.

That rat faced weasel Koskinen is under impeachment article as stated in house bill 449 for high crimes and misdemeanors. https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-resolution/494 but as usual, this has been sitting since last october, so the Kabuki theater still runs on.

My effective tax rate has always run between 10% - 15%, usually averaging in the middle. I looked at his 1040A form and I'm a little surprised no one has cast the aspersions that he's rich.

I wouldn't call Sanders 'rich'. With a gross income of 200K for two people, you would be living on the edge if you lived in SF or any of the other upper end cities in the Bay Area. Barely enough to eke by. It depends on where you live if you consider that income being rich. I'm being serious

I'm more interested in what his wife did for employment all these years to garner such a large Social Security benefit. Who employed her?
