To properly understand it, though, in today's British lexicon "cunt" is widely used as a term of abuse for males.
It seems to be something like "no more trustworthy than a woman." Woman seems to be taken narrowly as well, a certain kind of woman, with the equation for the moment that all women are this woman.
We'll have to await the OED's ruling, or some future Wm. Empson's.
