I hated this song when it came out, but I like it now. It's just fun, and I like the punky guitar build up, and the silly staccato vocals. If I had a band, I'd play it just to tweak people, followed by "Having my Baby".
Excellent use of octaves in that song, and my brother the guitarist always points out that the lead in My Sharona is essentially three different styles of guitar solo.
Did I mention that he always points that out?
Now for something completely different, only the same. Taj Mahal, Wynton Marsalis and Eric Clapton, ably accompanied by Ali Jackson on drums, playing A Closer Walk With Thee in pure New Orleans style - one hardly hears proper Dixieland playing these days, but this crew does pretty darned good, especially Ali when he turns the parade around at 6:38. Oh my...

God, I hate that song.
Played it with a kid cover band.
It's like pounding nails with your forehead.
This song, which I also played with the kid band is even worse.
The lyrics are just incredibly damned mean. The kids don't seem to be much into romance.

I can remember grinding commutes many years ago. That part of my life is over, thank God.

Thanks - I grew up listening to Dixieland and original jazz music. Wynton does a good job keeping that music alive.
