"Domino’s Pizza Delivery Man Stabs Customer"

KTLA5Michael Charles Parker, 31, stabbed the 20-year-old customer around 11:35 p.m. Saturday in the 600 block of Mangrove Avenue, according to a Covina Police Department news release. The victim was stabbed in the neck and wrist areas during the altercation, which stemmed from the pizza’s late arrival, police said.

The customer tipped Parker about $3 — the pizza cost about $45 — and the delivery man stayed in the doorway, refusing to leave, Sgt. Gregg Peterson said. An argument then ensued, and escalated into a physical altercation that moved to the home’s driveway.

I made an delivered pizza's in my youth. Fun job, but sometimes, pizza's went out late and you got yelled at and usually no tip. That's the breaks. My usual delivery routes where I knew customers were good tippers, usually netted them extra helpings of toppings or some 'extras' as a thank you for the gratuity. Tips were never expected, but always appreciated.

You delivered a sub-par pizza late and got 3 bucks. You got something, move on, do better next time. Nope, now you're going to commit attempted murder over it. Hope it was worth it asshole. You'll be getting different kinds of tips in the pokey. Get it? See what I did there?

Good comment, Meth. I'm going way out on a limb and guessing this delivery guy may have a few issues regarding anger. Just a few.

Pizza that somebody else makes and brings to me sounds really good right now.

And you know what? I got a hunnit dollars! Or maybe it's eighty. Possibly seventy. Who cares? I got cash and cards. I got this. I totally got this.

This dude delivered flowers to me. I had nothing to do with anything, suddenly a dude is delivering flowers. I gave him a ten dollar tip that I imagined incredibly overly generous considering I'm required nothing at all and he said cheerfully, "Thank you, this'll get a cup of coffee."

It's quite impossible to describe the emotions in that moment impinging upon my exposed naked soul, went exactly like this: nonplussed, confused, foolish, butt of a joke, miffed, emboldened, impassioned, betrayed, maneuvered and I'm thinking, well, GTFO.

And that ALL I recall of the incident. No who from, no how big, no what color, no what type of vase, no what type of flowers, no how expensive it might be, no how long did they last, no what happened after that, no nothing. I can't remember anything except that dude saying coffee to a ten dollar tip.

Just like I bet this guy will not be able to remember what kind of pizza he ordered, the size, and how many cokes arrived ice melted and flat. He'll only remember the neck and hand stabbing thing, like, chuh, that's the only thing that mattered. All that effort and pizza wasted just like the flowers.

A small special pizza delivered out here will cost about $20. Wouldn't take too much more to reach $45. I very seldom order pizza anymore, and when I do it is usually a small pizza delivered. I tip $5.

When I get a haircut, the cost is $14, or if they give me the senior discount, it's $12. I always, give the girls a $5 tip.

I tip at restaurants for service. I usually do about 20% on post sales tax amount. But for pizza delivery, you're lucky to get a $1 a pie from me.

I just don't see the service. I know I'm paying extra for the delivery service, and not just the delivery fee, which is comparable to the tip I provide. I could get the pizza at the storefront for a few dollars less and usually a lot faster time. I might be lazy and the deliverer working, but I don't tip FedEx or UPS, and they do the same amount of work.

AllenS, It just feels good to generously tip people who give you good service. That you are generous does not surprise me one bit.

Leland, I see your point. But, it's usually kids hustling to make some money and I like to encourage young people having a work ethic. I often tip street performers. At least they're doing something, not just holding out their hand and begging.

Nick, I remember very well, and will never forget when I was young and worked for a $1 an hour. While average pay has increased, there are people who provide me with services that I need or want, and I know that they don't make very much money. I'm now in a position to help, and help I will. Thank you for the kind words.

My daughter worked for Dominos and two neighbor kids worked for pizza delivery. Tips for them were nice but not expected. But then, those restaurants paid regular minimum wage along with the tips. A couple of "nicer" restaurants paid the alternate lower minimum wage for tip earners, which is pretty crappy. Especially when those restaurants also believed in wait staff sharing tips to bus teams and cooks.

I over tip nowadays to make up for the years when I was a cheap bastard. I'm still at a sufficient level of cheapness that I would never pay $45 for a small pizza. You should keep Stouffer's Lasagna in the freezer to tide you over until the pizza spasm passes.
