"... We will destroy ISIL and any other organization that tries to harm us... here's how
[By being strong and smart, resilient and relentless, and by drawing upon every aspect of American power.]Every aspect? That's the problem with absolutes, including all aspects of American power would include encouraging American exceptionalism and that's an idea this president does not embrace, an exceptionalism largely defined by two unique rights adjusted onto American Constitution. Every aspect of American power would include encouraging concealed carry so that American citizens can assert their exceptionalism by return fire when attacked. If we really were to draw on every aspect of American power, and if we consider American power unique, then we would not have our Attorney General making pronouncements constricting the authentic and singular American power of freedom of speech as reaction to events. It would mean the president would have to check his own impulses. He cannot. He violates his own imperatives of "all American power' in the same speech by suggesting unconstitutional adjustments.
The only reason the man is talking about this unsavory subject and one he strongly prefers to avoid in favor of talking about climate change is because Republican candidates are controlling the national discussion on this subject by events both international and national in sequence left him behind in the dust. This is his effort to get in front of a discussion occurring without him. Let's see him fulfill Ace's joke about how Clinton speaks and about how the American media responds.
Here's the intractable problem divided. Put on your welding goggles, it's brilliant.
First, our military will continue to hunt down terrorists plotters in any country where it is necessary. [elaborates]
Second, we will continue to provide training and equipment to [others] [elaborates]
Third, we're working with friends and allies to stop ISIL operations [elaborates]
Fourth, with American leadership, the international community has begun to establish a process -- and timeline -- to pursue ceasefires and a political resolution to the Syrian war.
Ha ha ha ha ha. Continue, continue, friends, allies, and others, American leadership. It's the "prepare to commence to start thinking about the onset of the beginning of the genesis of a germ of an idea to initiate the process of planning a committee to prepare giving birth to the budding and blooming of ideas about cooperation to eventual victory someday possibly remotely in the future subjunctive mood with fortitude" that got me.
Republican voices are being heard and given gravity, cannot have that, he must be heard foremost. His vocabulary must define the conversation. Fine. Speak. Someone will listen and we'll all use your words as you like, but instead to make fun of you.
"To begin with, Congress should act to make sure no one on a no-fly list is able to buy a gun. What could possibly be the argument for allowing a terrorist suspect to buy a semi-automatic weapon? This is a matter of national security."This is easy. It's handled deftly through a thousand tweets in an hour by twitterbirds without any law degree and reposted all over the place. And you, an Associate Visiting Law Professor.
* Presumption of innocence. That's still an American thing, right, unless in the Democrat mind that too has been been changed fundamentally?
* Due process. How to put this, Obama, his government, Democrats are flatly not trusted, and certainly not with anything so loosey-goosy as no-fly list.
* 2 Amendment. Bust a move. His party won't see another statehouse in decades.
More from a sympathetic place, L.A. Times. Comments there, not so sympathetic tonight.
Obama is trying to drown out Republican candidates who are talking about immigration and Islamic terrorism and about absence of American leadership, empty chairs and such. He imagines he is stepping in front of them, taking their spotlight from them, having his positions discussed and honored and used as basis of discussion.
Marco Rubio responds to Obama's speech. May have made things worse. Breitbart.
Donald Trump. Is That All There Is?
Ben Carson. Strange.
Ted Cruz. Will direct Defense to destroy ISIS and shut down immigration system that is letting jihadist into the country.
Fiorina. Remove the constraints Obama placed on our intelligence and our military.
Rand Paul criticized Obama's call for gun control.
John Kasich. Bolder action is needed.
Reince Priebus. We will defeat ISIS but not by the current approach.

Trump's was best.
I wouldn't doubt that fully one third of Americans think that 0bama is the most bestest thing that every happened with this country.
For people who see everything thru the prism of race, Obama remains the best thing since sliced bread.
A narrow outlook.

This is spot on.
This will do it.
Rubio called out Obama as 'Ideologically silly'. Yep. Obama is a punk.
Obama's #1 enemy - ordinary Americans. Bitter Clingers, Christians and anyone who isn't loyal to him and his leftwing cronies.
Rubio: “Where is there widespread evidence that we have a problem in America with discrimination against Muslims?”
Leading from behind=giving a speech exhorting others to do your bidding.
OK, can we agree now that a Constitutional scholar doesn't understand the Constitution well enough to be President, just like a scholar of Women's Studies would make a terrible wife.
I love a good teacher and owe them plenty, but the Presidency is not a teaching position - we need a doer.
bags, LOL about Women's Studies. Any wife they have is a lesbo one. Here's a dirty secret about lesbo's. I'm talking the man hating ones. There are lesbo's that simply love women and have no chip on their shoulder about men. They are not typically lefties and are good people. I'm talking the man hating lesbo's. They have horrible relationships w/ their wives, often violent. I have investigated a few civil cases involving stalking, physical abuse involving this ilk here in Lesbo Mecca.
Spinelli, I have a lot of lesbians in my wider circle, some very close. I agree that violent relationships and just plain angry ones are pretty common among them. Much more common than in other relationships, and I think gay men probably have the least violent relationships, slightly less than straight ones. I don't know the psychology behind that, but it seems that lesbians have less ingrained respect for women, and that combined with no social training against hitting women, like men get, probably work together to allow more violence. I bet that idea never gets covered in "women's studies".
My comment above is of course a generalization. I'm such a pussy. I have to give that little disclaimer, even though everyone knows that when you say something like that, you are, of course, generalizing. PC is infecting everyone. It's like when you are in court and have to say "your honor", which I never do, or in old days when you would say "my lord" in the middle of everything. The Honorable Lord P.C.
Everybody went off to google "lesbo mecca"
bags, I've said many times, one of the demographics I do best w/ are women who love women. There is no sexual tension, they are often athletic types, and they like men. The man hating lesbos are just angry @ the world people. I also agree, gay men seem to be lower on the violence spectrum.
Amartel, I'm referring to the People's Republic of Madison, WI. The lesbo sister city of SF.
I just liked the visual of a sudden group google. Wait, what, there's a lesbo mecca? No one informed ME. Googlegooglegoogle.
"It's like when you are in court and have to say "your honor", which I never do." I once referred to the judge as "sir" which resulted in huffiness. "Excuse me, COUNSELOR, what did you call me?" It was a close call but I composed my game face just in time. A very Barbara Boxer like situation (the time when some hapless military man referred to her as "ma'am" and she got all huffy and demanded to be called "Senator" because she earned it and all. On her knees in front of cronies, a visual I know we could all have done without but too late now).
I encourage folks to Google "askew." I did the other day looking for a good synonym, and was impressed @ the screen visual to help assist in defining askew. It's subtle.
I remember the Boxer scene you describe. She is in my Top 3 of hated politicians. Hillary, Reid, Boxer.
Before chick jumps on me, Obama is 4th.
More like Urkel leading from his behind.
I knew a lesbian who hit upon hard times that pimped out (as a team) her really hot girlfriend. And she got jealous as hell, practically enraged, when the girlfriend and I hit it off.
I don't think I've ever gotten along well with a lesbian (although Irshad Manji makes me reassess that). They try (or don't try) too hard to emulate the worst and most dunderheaded horrifyingly male traits. I've never gotten along with meatheads and most lezbos are two notches at best removed from being a meathead.
I have, however, gotten along VERY GREAT with women who were into doing it a little with other women. The kind of women who know that women are usually too crazy to have healthy relationships with, but tried and were it not for that... everything else....
