However, scholars and legal experts acknowledge that governors have little if any power to stop refugees from entering their states, citing the Refugee Act of 1980 which gives the federal government the authority.
“Immigration is a federal responsibility,” James Carafano, a national security and foreign policy analyst with the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., said Tuesday...
Administration officials also reiterated that President Obama's top priority is "the safety of the American people."
"Even as the United States accepts more refugees-including Syrians-we do so only after they undergo the most rigorous screening and security vetting of any category of traveler to the United States," the White House said.Speaking of "rigorous screening and security"... "Undercover DHS Tests Find Security Failures at US Airports" reported as recent as June of this year.
According to officials briefed on the results of a recent Homeland Security Inspector General’s report, TSA agents failed 67 out of 70 tests, with Red Team members repeatedly able to get potential weapons through checkpoints.I know, apples and oranges some might say, it will probably be a different agency doing the Syrian refugee screening. But, do we really want to take the chance they wont miss any ISIS sympathizers? People who didn't notice Hillary was handling national secrets from a home brew server, for four years?
By the way, remember the downed plane the press was focusing on before the Paris attacks?.. Russia says bomb brought down jet in Sinai.

"If you like your safety, or you keep your safety."
Sure.
I'm still waiting for the Democrat party and their Media to explain what our vetting process is beyond rhetoric and promises.
Please explain what "fully vetted in a sophisticated and utterly reliable way." means. How?
Right now, the heads of our intelligence agencies are saying we don't have a reliable system or a database.
Promises of Rigor!
The TSA exists to annoy grandma, inconvenience and harass single women, businessmen, evil whitey, and let anyone who looks radically Islamic through because we don't want to profile in any meaningful way. PC rules.
The British are sitting ducks. Literally sitting, waiting to die. Join the NRA.

I would like sincerely acknowledge everyone and especially thank both Deborah and Ritmo for bringing alternative views here, and arguing them with vigor.
I may comment too much sometimes, and it may seem self-indulgent, but that's because it is. I read this blog because the contributors are intelligent, interesting, fun, and current. I comment here for a number of reasons including a feeling of community, and camaraderie, but one of the main things I get out of it is an opportunity to organize my thoughts, edit them, explore nuance, and formulate my opinions on the issues of the day. I appreciate when those formulations are challenged, and that often nudges me to continue to rethink them and adjust them long after the discussion is through, and the post has slid down the blog gut. I've had my mind changed plenty of times here, and I truly value that. It makes me wiser, and I can use all the help I can get. Thanks all.
Another thing I think people miss is how unabashedly deceptive this president is when it comes to sticking to a proposal.
Obama says now it's only 10,000, but by the time is all over, it's five times that.
Can't be trusted as far as Gary Coleman could throw him.
I don't understand how anybody still believes a thing Obama says. I don't think foreign leaders ever do anymore - allies or enemies.
I just changed propane suppliers. I had to fill out 3 pages of forms. Far more than the questions that will be used to vet these new immigrants.
I have a retired FBI friend. He says when Obama says these refugees are being thoroughly vetted it is a FUCKING lie. You cannot vet people arriving from Thunderdome.
"If he yields it from fear, it is for the purpose of avoiding war, and he will rarely escape from that; for he to whom he has from cowardice conceded the one thing will not be satisfied, but will want to take other things from him, and his arrogance will increase as his esteem for the prince is lessened." - Niccoló Machiavelli, The Discourses. 1517.
Old lessons.
Eight ISIS suspects posing as refugees arrested at Istanbul airport.
We all know the "vetting" is a lie. We know it, he knows it, and he doesn't care.
Fear not. The U.S. equivalent social security and census bureaus of Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, et al have assured Jeh Johnson of Homeland Security that they've updated and digitized their citizenship files and can be used to vet their emigrants. Also, Turkey has vowed a crackdown on the black market issuance of false Syrian passports.
And I have a severe headache from listening to the paid government liars that are feeding us this bullshit. Lies, lies and more lies.
Thank you, bago, that is so kind. I do exactly the same...think more critically and come to a more nuanced world view. The crew here is varied in background and expertise. I'm lucky to interact in such a milieu.
Nick at ten fortythree, right on. This influx will not only result in radicalization of vulnerable youth, but erode our civil liberties as domestic incidents lead the government to increase surveillance.
Many will get jobs with TSA. What? You wanna bet that won't happen at least once? If you listen real careful, you can hear the justification coming out of the President's mouth already.
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee:
There's a saying I recall hearing as a child (perhaps it came from those "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books): "Don't make decisions when you're upset."
If you do, the saying goes, you risk making a decision guided by the same fear and anger that caused you to be upset in the first place instead of making a decision guided by reason.
That's essentially the argument...
Essentially the governor argues that the need of the many Syrian Refugees outweigh the few Americans who might get blown/shot/raped.
We have enough people (numbers) to cover the overhead... or something.
How many are going to D.C.? Let's put them up in the IRS building.
Even Ryan is feeling the heat. This is good.
By the way, remember the downed plane the press was focusing on before the Paris attacks?.. Russia says bomb brought down jet in Sinai.
"We remember everything and everyone."
He said Russians would not dry their tears, but would nevertheless find and punish those responsible.
He also said, "Vengeance is inevitable".
I'll just bet.
PS I'm wondering if this isn't the beginning of some kind of offensive against the West in general.
PPS For those interested, Al Reuters has a new poll showing The Donald regaining the lead. Granted, all kinds of caveats on this, but does it surprise anyone?
And 55% of his support is blue collar. A very vital demographic.
Carson will collapse after this. He appears unprepared on foreign policy, and his advisors look unreliable. We are going to see a rush for the gun cabinet now. I wish Elizabeth Warren was running so she could wave around some scalps.
Bagoh20- noted and agreed with. I like your comments.
Good Goldberg column in National Review today. He points out that Obama’s policy is unchanged from the start of this administration, regardless of the changed situation on the ground in Syria/Iraq, and how angry the president gets when the MSM even timidly suggest that ISIS is not contained, they are not JV, that we don’t have them on the run, that we should have kept troops in Iraq, that redlines are being ignored, that the Russians are more loyal to their allies, and that the bastards are pretty much doing what ever they want.
I searched the White House website for the words “American Leadership” (which you will remember that Obama is not interested in), “American Leadership” is the title of his 2015 National Security Policy statement.
Was that document written in French or Arabic?
Bag, don't underestimate Carson. He's a sharp dude. He'll bone up.

Lem, here is the real issue. About a million have already come into the country over the last 8 years. So what is another 10k?
