Reminds me of the difference in words of French and Anglo-Saxon that made it into the English language. Swine-pork, stairs-steps, etc.

I wonder if retaliation-revenge follows this? I don't know, revenge looks pretty French. Hmmm, looking at a list of synonyms they look mostly French to me. I guess recrimination looks the most A-S to me.

When Napoleon was stuck in the Syrian desert, he took all the Arab prisoners who were slowing him down (and eating his food) and shot them.

If France isn't ready to go ballistic, they might as well pack it in.
