Should Jeb bail?

"Not that any of this will stop him from shambling forward through Iowa and New Hampshire like the most preppily-dressed zombie on “The Walking Dead.” After all, zombies don’t know they are dead until you drive a stake through their brains. No one has done that to the JEB! 2016 campaign yet.

...Bush’s backers are nervous. One of them complained to Politico – anonymously – that donors are not seeing much “bang for their buck.” A Republican political consultant, who also remained anonymous, likened Bush’s predicament to the moment in “Predator” when Arnold Schwarzenegger says of the mysterious and wounded creature killing his team of soldiers, “If it bleeds, we can kill it.” Inspiring stuff!

...His unartful comments on a handful of subjects suggest a man either saddled with a patrician’s tin ear, or a guy trying on the persona of a hard-right Washington hater and failing miserably. Just in the last few weeks, he has dismissed the idea of enacting gun control laws to reduce mass shootings as worthless because “stuff happens.” He has accused African-American voters of only voting for candidates who will give them “free stuff.” (Very big on the word “stuff,” is old Jeb.) Just the other day he suggested he’d like to start a recession in Washington, D.C. because somehow that would grow the economy everywhere else."

I think he should keep going and keep speaking from the heart. What the hell, he's a nice enough guy, it may pan out. Trump gets to run his mouth 24/7.

Don't think I don't appreciate Trump, though. He brings a refreshing jolt to the race. A breath of air-conditioned casino air to the silly season.

What's with Carson, though? I do not get the appeal.

I get the impression Jeb was the Joe Kennedy Jr of the family, the one groomed for it, although Dubya grabbed the brass ring, but Barbara wants him to have his shot.

Yeah, Jeb's toast, like Christie.

Rubio is the only Whig with a shot.

anyone named Bush or Clinton should bail.

PS Carson's been all the rage since he bitch slapped (pardon my French) His Poutiness at the National Prayer Breakfast 2 years ago.

That Carson is everything Selfie isn't - intelligent, educated, accomplished, civilized, cultured, honorable, truly Christian, black - just makes it all the sweeter.

Wow, Ed, thank you for that link...amazing.

Jeb puts me in mind of Ted Kennedy. Remember when he was giving a speech (at the convention?) and he just stood there, as if he couldn't remember what he was supposed to say?

You have a definite point April. I think part of the plan was for both to be nominated so the country would HAVE to choose between two neoliberals. That's why Trump could actually play spoiler.

Jeb will stick because 1) he's a Bush, the family honor and all that 2) the hope that Trump will commit a gaffe so huge that he will become radioactive and his support will implode. A faint hope but considering the crony money Bush's donors will come into if he wins.........

I think Hillary should bail. When your best argument is "I'm just as corrupt as every other politician, except I'm a woman.", then you need to find a new career.

Carson's greatest appeal is that you can beat Obama over the head with him and not be accused of racism. His background shows that he can absorb and successfully master a body of knowledge. Unfortunately that body of knowledge has nothing to do with statesmanship or civil administration. You're throwing the dice with him-- and Trump and probably Carly.....My first tier are the governors. They've actually had to act on their principles and negotiate with those who don't share those principles. . Bush seems like a grown up. So far as foreign relations go, he would be my first choice. He'd probably do a lot of things I'd disagree with, but he's pro American and not such an experiment in governance. The problems in the Middle East cannot be solved, but hey can be made worse. I don't look to The President to find inspiration or validation for my life. Dull and boring is fine with me.

Excellent points, but look at the Democrats.

If you mean Teddy Kennedy, I think you're thinking of the 60 Minutes piece where he was asked why he wanted to be President and went blank (literally).

(if I'm wrong, say so, but I can't remember the Chap of Quiddick ever going dry at a convention)

That was Rob Lowe that went dry at a convention.

Pay attention.

Noblesse oblige, it's a terrible drug. It's such tremendous fun kicking them around. Denying Lurch his entitled presidency -- a beautiful thing. Kicking out Udall, most satisfying. Smashing the last Bush, crushing the last Clinton, discouraging their next generation, priceless.

Probably Ed. I'd have to look for it.
