That's a mighty fine cornstalk.

It reminds me of the native indians who planted maize along with other plants that replenish the nutrients that corn depletes from the soil, the stalks providing support for climbing morning glory vines and with marigolds planted around the base to help repel certain pests, an arrangement they termed the "three sisters" but that referred not to the three plants as commonly believed but to a fourth element, a smelly dead fish that they tossed in the hole along with a corn kernel, that did most of the real work of fertilizing all three plants for the whole season. Eventually they incorporated novelty watermelons but that was later. <-- contains at least 5% historical fact.

I learned they put in the fish and four kernels...one for the mouse, one for the crow, one for the _____, and one to grow. There are variants, can't remember the exact one I learned.

My wife took a kid into a maze in Wisconsin and got really lost as it was getting dark. Traumatic experience. I was home watching football.
