OK, I can see it.

John Paul would have done similar.

We're talking people whose deaths can be described as tragic.

It was worthy sentiment. It showed his essential compassion and decency.

Fine by me, let Francis offer up his condolences, all I see is 700+ dead muslims. A good start.

I just read a great Yogiism I'd never heard before:

You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I'm not hungry enough to eat six.

Let us pray God shows them mercy and does not send them to hell...

As is his role. And it was the nice and proper thing to do.

But getting beyond the politics of all this, if a ritual kills several hundreds in a single go, isn't it time to question if it really serves any useful purpose? This can't be the first time something like this has happened.

I think shortly after the Iranian "revolution" their government sent a bunch of militants to forcibly take over the sites in Mecca during a pilgrimage by way of a bloody standoff that senselessly killed countless others as well. The Saudi response certainly wasn't bloodless either.

I'm just saying, maybe it's just one thing out of many others in Islam that just isn't working for them. When more people are killed for its than are enlightened or brought to any kind of flourishing life in numbers that are justified by massively offsetting the death, maybe it's time to rethink things.

Rit, that would require a much-overdue Reformation in Islam.

You will have to wait for it like the rest of the world.

Neo-neocon has a very thoughtful post up about this Pope and his politics. Recommended reading for sure.

At this point, what the Pope says or does is immaterial to me.

He appears to have embraced socialism and communism and abhors capitalism, which tells me he is softheaded about people and ignorant about economics, and wants the Church to be a Social Justice Warrior rather than a warrior for souls.

it's as if he read The Camp of the Saints and decided to literally act out the Pope's part (an epic fail).

Now I turn the radio or TV off when he appears, or there is news about him, like Obama or Boehner or Hillary, etc. No point listening to the blah blah blah.

The moon god Allah wants his sacrifices and he's getting them. He got them when the crane collapsed and kill nearly 100 too. He is dancing and luxuriating in their blood as we speak.
