The English novelist, whose latest book in the Bond series, “Trigger Mortis,” hits stores on Sept. 8, told the
Daily Mail that the actor is simply not suave enough to succeed Daniel Craig."
“Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better,” he said. “For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”
Horowitz also said that “Skyfall,” the last and highest-grossing Bond film to date, is his “least favorite” movie from the franchise.
“Bond is weak in it. He has doubts. That’s not Bond,” Horowitz said.

Idris Elba is a giant dick. However, I thought he was great in RocknRolla. I hope a sequel to that gets made.
Does this mean Bond will be taking his purple drank shaken not stirred?
Elba is a bonafide actor in my book.
Oh he's a great actor. I mean he was awesome as Heimdall (snicker) in Thor. A black Heimdall. An affirmative action comic book character. tee-hee.
No, in all seriousness, he is a good actor, he's just a dick.
I think Jackie Chan would bring a new dimension to the Bond character, especially in the action sequences. Liam Neeson would make a cool Shaft. He could track down and murder a group of white supremacists who kidnaped his daughter. The white supremacist leader could be played by Laurence Fishburne.
The white supremacist leader could be played by Laurence Fishburne.
Can't say it wouldn't be challenging.
IIRC, DoubleAughtWhatsHisFace was supposed to be of the upper crust, but with several bad habits that got him thrown out of the tonier institutions (he was lucky the Narzies came along).
Of course, Thomas Connery wasn't exactly Cary Grant in the suave department, either.

I was thinking Dave Chappel. He's already done that. :D

I vote for Lena Dunham as the new Bond.
Bond has gone all psychodrama, presumably to draw in women.
The series has a problem in that the female interest has to be killed off so that there can be a next film, which lends itself to a chick flick mentality.
Check out any Nicholas Sparks film. The love interest always dies. Chicks love it.
Get Smart (2008) with Carell and Hathaway is a nice Bond send-up.
As is Agent Cody Banks (but not the sequel).
Many Bond citations in each.
I've recently seen a lot of Pierce Brosnan films. Some are pretty good.
Laws of Attraction uses the Bond raffishness in a romantic comedy, so picks up a lot of the Bond humor from early Bond.
What you want in a romantic comedy is antagonistic opposites finding that opposites fit.
Fitting doesn't mean killing one off to show love is eternal. It means fitting.
The guys' want fitting, the girls want eternal, in audiences.
