Chrissie Hynde calls lewd pop stars 'sex workers'

"And now Chrissie Hynde has waded into another contentious area – the overly sexualised nature of modern pop music."
Miss Hynde added: ‘I don’t think sexual assault is a gender issue as such, I think it’s very much it’s all around us now.
‘It’s provoked by this pornography culture, it’s provoked by pop stars who call themselves feminists. Maybe they’re feminists on behalf of prostitutes – but they are no feminists on behalf of music, if they are selling their music by bumping and grinding and wearing their underwear in videos.
Truth to power.

Miliey Cyrus is the worst. He parents cheering her on in the audience is downright gross.

It's all for the one thing they covet the most. Money. They have to do this in order to get as much of it as possible as fast as possible. They are sacrificing their humanity for it. Otherwise, what people or parents in their right mind would sit idly by and cheer their children towards this debauched behavior? None. They have to be more outrageous, more daring, more slutty, more bro, more whatever to not only outdo their competitors on the red carpet, but also maintain their outrageous media presence on a daily basis and all for the money.

Miley Cyrus is worse than most because she went from being a disney kid to rancid twig and anyone who says that these 'entertainers' do not influence your children are liars.

Huh. Althouse posted this too.

I commented there, but will re-post here:

"I too, like Laslo, was reminded of Hynde's super sexy singing/perfomring of the lyrics to "Brass In Pocket". I think she's going a little to far with her condemnation except for her point about the pornographic mixture of skin and song prevalent today. That's on the mark. But she sold that Pretenders single with plenty of sex AND a very sexy waitress outfit on in the video. (Memorable!) She should own that, I think, because it is along the same vein of what she's criticizing.

Still, I admire her courage."

She's done a good job of publicizing her book. Not that I'll ever read it. I've never read the biography of a Presidential candidate or a pop singer. There are just too many good cat videos on You Tube to waste your time with such things........They have, however, made a number of good movies about pop singers. The female singers, more often than not, have a kind of whore/pimp relationship with their boyfriend/manager. In the movies it's a story of redemption and growth.

Pop music is about selling a bit of sexy. Brass In Pocket was tame, by today's crude standards.

Now it's all T&A giggling or twerking in your face. I blame Madonna. It all started after she F*ed the bed.

It's a *woops* planned fashion malfunction with a genital or breast popping out.

*Chrissie had some racy lyrics in some of her songs.
Tattooed love boys, for instance.
But at least we never had to look at her in a see-thru outfit or find out if she was or was not really a boy. (lady gaga)

Now it's all a race to porno with horrible music to match. I have to admit, I like some of the pretenders music. Chrissie knows how to rock. The rest of them know how to show up to studio and the voice-make-over machine.

When she thinks of her....Lena Dunham touches herself.

I'll tell you what? You know who I thought was sex as hell, but wasn't overtly sexual and could rock her ass off, Joan Jett. My god she was beautiful back in the day. She still looks fantastic and basically has danced to her own tune. Cherrie Curry and Lita Ford still look fantastic too.

Where have you gone Debby Harry, a nation turns its lonely eyes to you. I don't think anyone will ever top her in terms of raw sex appeal. And not only that, the music was great.

Mama Cass sure could rock a circus tent back in the day.

Yah, Madonna was all about presentation and less about the material. Which is odd, given that she was a Material Girl. Anyway, now everyone has a chipmunk auto-tuned voice - even the dudes - and lots of skimpy fashion design outfits and the tits are out and about for no good reason. (No, being a former Disney princess is not a good reason to show us yer boobs.) Chrissie's right; they're a bunch of whores.
Chrissie was always alright by me. She rocked. She had good songs. That was her job. I can overlook nonsense political opinions if someone's good at their job.

Is it a super sexy dress? I watched the video again. The girls I worked with at a restaurant wore dresses with a similar length but they were orange.

Is it because the b/w colors say "French maid"?
