Washington Post: Trump's appeal trumps education

"Trump's support is strongest with Republicans in the Midwest, conservatives across the country who do not have a college degree and (perhaps not surprisingly) those who report the most negative views of immigration and Mexican immigrants in particular, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll released last week."

To be clear, the poll found that 60 percent of all Americans support the idea of offering undocumented immigrants currently in the United States some form of legal status, and 57 percent told pollsters they believe that immigrants strengthen the country. But there are plenty of people who see things differently. And those people appear to be concentrated among whites, Republicans and those with lower levels of education.
It takes a lot of education to explain away the country's direction.

Given the decrepit, sad, devolved state of education in these United States, I wouldn't get too excited about the statistic that "educated" people disdain El Trumpo. I think people just enjoy seeing the people portrayed on TV as their "betters" get all flustered when Trump releases a mighty blast followed by a personal insult and then mows them down in his gas-guzzling Escalade on his way to the airport and his gas guzzling private Aircraft of Inequality. It's funny. Unless your a community college graduate/professor (same thing) who is highly sensitized to social injustice, inequality, disparate discrimination, unusual sexual categories, etc etc etc. Shit that doesn't figure in Trumpland nor reality. I hope he fires somebody at the debate. I really do.

Also, that poll smells gamey.

Hillary's support is strongest with Democrats on both coasts who have a college degree and also (perhaps not surprisingly) among those who support unfettered immigration and Mexican immigrants in particular, according to an unreleased Washington Post-ABC News poll not.

There, that balances the equation.

Why quote a poll on claims of percentages supportive of the one position he's actually managed to clarify? Even Republikooks oppose him by a margin of two to one.

I predict that Trump's appeal will continue to grow, especially when people figure out that every Democratic candidate is essentially an Obama policy clone.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

That's because your understanding of politics remains at a pre-schooler's level. Not to mention that was a total non-sequitur.

chickelit said...

What I mean is that there was a chance that Democrats could win back some of the 9/11 Dems such as myself. But now that it has become clear that Obama is really on the dark side, and all of the other Dems are locked into his position(s), well, there goes that theory. Dems had better hurry up and give felons and illegals the vote.

chickelit said...

Talk about non sequiturds, what was that BS about chemical companies you were struggling to loosen -- the one from your vowel movement last night?

I'm really fed up with polls. The media, and virtually everyone substitutes polls for facts real analysis and reason. I don't find the percentage of people who believe this or that very instructive, or useful. It's useful to politicians who are focused on appealing to people without offering them anything in the way of leadership. It is the opposite of leadership.

"54% think this", or "47% think that" is almost totally useless info. If roughly half believe the opposite, what do you do with that? A majority of people believe all kinds of bullshit, usually based on nothing but that they heard it somewhere, and often they were lied to, or heard wrong, or completely misunderstand the context or the reliability of the source.

How many times do you have to see people say they support something or someone and then can't really tell you why beyond that they just think it or feel it. I remember watching exit interviews with voters who just voted for Obama, and when told his positions were exactly opposite of what they actually were, agreed with them anyway. Or when told that actual Obama policies were McCain's they suddenly disagreed with them. They had no idea who they were voting for or why. Why the hell should any intelligent person care what most people think when so many of them are uninformed imbeciles. Sheep have no idea why they are running north, or south off a cliff.

Argue ideas, facts, and logic, and forget mass opinion.

Bingo! Their logic is: "millions do and so should you"

9/11 Dems…

What the heck does this even mean? Democrats stopped writing Republicans blank checks in 2003 once it was abundantly evident that Bush's optional War to Avenge His Daddy was a bungling of the highest order of magnitude and based completely on trumped up nonsense. You are twelve years behind the times.

I'm really fed up with polls.

Of course you are. They're yet another form of what rational people call "facts".

chickelit said...

I like the scare quotes. Quantified mass opinions are facts in the sense that they measure opinions. But opinions are not facts.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Those aren't scare quotes. They're there to identify the actual word he's looking for.

And yes, the quantification of mass opinions is a fact. It doesn't matter that those opinions are not facts themselves, but the fact of how popular or unpopular those opinions are is still a fact.

Science can proceed to make sense of people by declining to pass judgment on a human emotion (such as pro-Trump opinions), while still being useful in understanding the implications of those opinions (or relative lack thereof).

chickelit said...

The comparison of any WaPo-ABC poll to science suggests that the "methods section" be published alongside the conclusion and abstract sections.

Ritmo, you don't have to wear the dunce cap just because someone brought it to the party. You are arguing semantics like a 7th grader who thinks he's really on to something powerful. Next you'll be saying shit is fact because you read it on the internet.

chickelit said...

In a related matter, people who oppose Scott Walker for lacking a college degree seem to be the same types bemoaning Trump for his appeal to the "uneducated" masses.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Pollsters have been winning elections for Republicans since the Laffer curve. It seems they actually know what they're doing.

Trump apparently appeals to the 1/3rd of Republicans who think facts get in the way of their angry funtime. The other 2/3rds actually think issues matter - at least to some extent or another. That would make sense. And then there's the fact that independents don't have much use for him, either. But then, these are the primaries, when angry, crazy, conservative funtime reigns supreme. They don't have to pick up the pieces of their house party until the general. That's happened before, again and again. Only this time, even their crazy fun angry wicked orange-haired lobster faced candidate isn't getting as much traction as previous cycles' "excitement candidates" did.

Deal.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Conservatives are consummate compartmentalizers. Everything in its right place. The primaries are their time to flirt with an "excitement candidate". And then once their political orgy ends, they've had enough time to sober up and get on with the otherwise boring task of picking the candidate who's actually got enough appeal outside of Republican Team Crazy Tent to be electable. They know this. If nothing else, they at least know how to pretend to be grown-ups when the time is right.

But this time you can see how truly low the bar is. None of their purchases have any cross-over appeal, whatsoever. No McCain, no Giuliani, nothing. Trump has a long history of saying nice things about Democrats, but rational people figured out at least maybe a decade ago that the guy's insane. Clinically. He's a narcissist like you wouldn't believe it. And you don't. But don't blame yourselves - it seems to be a weakness. You couldn't even figure out that Evil Blogger Lady was a narcissist.

So the left and rational voters are having huge fun with this. Who knows where you'll end up? But it can't be good. LIke I said, the rest of the field (apart from Kasich, who is probably the most respected and competent that's existed in decades) is a bunch of wholly bought-and-paid-for Ken dolls. Even Trump has no problem saying this out loud. A clown car full of them - very, very weak with no appeal except to the Industrial Overlord who paid for them. Except for the one Industrial Overlord with the ego outlandish enough to try it on his own. This is the arena in which your team now operates.

Behold the spectacle of Citizens United. Thanks, SCOTUS!

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

And of course, Trump doesn't care if his appeal is narrow, locked in at a two-to-one disadvantage even among the team he now claims to play for. His ego NEEDS EVERY DROP of that insane adulation, no matter how narrow and unpopular it is. It is a deep well of crazy that he can appeal to, by saying the crazy things that his sobriety-challenged eternal whimsy requires. He is addicted to it, he will suck it up. He cannot forego it by remembering that Latinos are people, too. Or that a general election must follow a primary. Or that money can insulate him from unpopularity, but not from election results.

But he balances out your crazy ids the way the others balance out the crazy boring uselessness. He's the passion to Team Clown Car candidates servitude. Through him, may your needs be served well.

This is the moment the left has been waiting for. No turning back now.

chickelit said...

Not having a viable candidate of your own, I can sympathize with your frustration and your need to lash out at Trump, one of several more competent than the asshole in office.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

So much rage, dude. You're the one who's using profanities (yes, I'm sure Obama's done much to you personally to cause any personal offense) while accusing others of "lashing out". There are none so mind-blind as those who will not see.

Trump is a very competent in making declarations of bankruptcy and inheriting wealth. What was it… FOUR times in the last 20 years he declared bankruptcy? Yes, I can see why you think he'd make the ideal Republican president, fiscally speaking.

bagoh20 said...

Bankruptcy? Wait till Trump gets ahold of the U.S. Treasury printing press.

I guess he has no special ability there. Everybody seems to have that move down pat.

Rabel said...

I agree with Ritmo.

That's because whatever the Hell he's trying to say seems important to him and it's the neighborly thing to do and also because it would take entirely too much effort to try to make sense out of it in order to disagree.

The Hillary problem has the left and faux-left like Rit scrambling for answers that aren't there and Trump provides a soothing distraction. I'm sympathetic to their agonies.

And in this spirit of brotherly love, I'd also recommend a Valium.

The more people talked about Obama eight years ago the stronger he got. Now it seems to be happening with Trump. Leftists, and conservatives, enjoy ridiculing Trump and his popularity seems to thrive on it. Obama's candidacy was the opposite as no one dared to ridicule him. That aura of protection has mostly worn off Obama but then he doesn't need it any more.

Trump is great entertainment and it wouldn't be so if he didn't have the ability to scare people. Nobody was really afraid of Obama until he became president and started doing things. Until then he was just a community organizer, seemingly fresh out of college. Trump has already been all over the world wheeling, dealing, and creating his own aura but it isn't one of protection. He doesn't need it. It's the people he's up against who could probably use it.

And in a matter of equal importance, how come chicken livers are different colors? I mean, most of them are liver colored, which seems proper, but some of them are pale and whitish. Are these possibly from alcoholic chickens? I can see why a chicken would need to drink but you'd think the chicken farms would keep that under control. I just don't know, but I'm cooking them all anyway.

Oh, and if you ever get one with a little green sack attached to it, don't eat that one. Trust me.

This weekend we are doing our summer pilgrimage to Canyon Ranch/The Berkshires. It's all about finding our third eye, Tanglewood, Jacobs Ladder, getting our chaka khan's in alignment, yoga, hiking, swimming in ponds, manie/pedie, facial, lighting candles, rubbing Budha's tummy, chi, waxing, massage, bodywork by trainer, vegan, and minimal speaking.

Yes, there will likely be Gwennie/Apple sightings but like we don't even look because...I mean...this is the berkshires.

The rare clumber will be receiving the "special dog" treatment.

So, I won't be able to post much here.

Miss you all already!

Keep reaching for the stars!

We are both getting our expensive lofts micro cleaned this weekend.

Summer season really can be grueling.

Namaste....

Titus said...

The products in the micro clean will only be organic and local. The Mexican cleaners bow to me while I take them up to the PH. Even a MIT prof is below me-she's a straight queen. Next door to my unit is the Asian Real Estate Broker to MIT transfers. I hate him, he drives some ridiculous Porsche SUV. Across from me, retired, childless Harvard profs (minnie cooper). A block away Julia Child's house and Henry Gates house-he likes white women and knows the rare clumbers name.

It is hard keeping up with all this shit but this is the world I inhabit.

I got blown tonight. We met at Whole Foods, natch. I was inspecting bananas, he was all about the beets. Eyes met, and he motioned for me to go outside...I complied, but I lead him on a bit. He was ready to go outside but I decided to focus on the bananas for some time-I sensed he was getting desperate and a little too eager. He had a LL Bean backpack; I always check labels to see what I am working with. I can actually get hot when I see some label that is gross-like Levis or some Target shit.

We did it outside behind the organic trash bin and multiple recycling barrels....fyi-I never recycle. A couple of rare Cambridge dogs/rescue dogs were on our scent, and I was a little nervous. He moaned while taking my erect hog in his mouth. I think he was latin...but a somewhat upscale latin. He was on the ground pinching his tit, while pinching my tit, while sucking my hog. Total Multitasker. I was impressed by his interest in his tit/my tit/and my hog all at that same time. The bitch was a professional.

He had beard, short hair, nice body, and loved looking in my green eyes as he blew me. It actually lasted for a good 10 minutes, rather than the usual 4.

As I left he held my cum in his mouth. I was out of there before I noticed whether he swallowed or spit.
tits.

There's no doubt in my mind, that a lot of blue collared Democrats like what Trump is saying.

I agree, Allen, and they probably hate to admit it.

Even Titus would probably vote for him if he thought there was a chance Trump would do a better job of keeping his little corner of decadence going a while longer.
