A pendulum interconverts potential and kinetic energy. At the high point of each upswing, the weight is motionless as it reverses course and at that moment all its energy is potential. As the weight swings downward in its arc, potential converts to kinetic energy as it swings through the midpoint. Back and forth it goes, slowed only by the friction of air or of the pivot point.

The thing is, the pendulum already reached its high point last election but failed to reverse course instead experiencing a hiccup of sorts that accrued more potential energy than a regular pendulum swing that must now find expression in a longer fuller more power sweep in the opposite direction much to the distress of its opposite. An pendulum-anomaly that is remedied with another anomalous sweep, long and torturous.
Damn you pendulum! You were supposed to have been dislodged. Stopped. But here you are again.

I can barely remember being at the Smithsonian Institute, many years ago, and there was this giant pendulum that hung from the ceiling and it knocked over pins on the floor set in a circle.
I was just a little kid at the time, so my memory is hazy, through no Foucault of my own.
chick, Werner von Braun is a bog deal in Huntsville! He was quite the womanizer. Having travelled through Illinois, TN., Kentucky and Alabama the last few days I've seen some horrible political ads.

That might explain attempts to whitewash him out of history.
I voted this morning but not because chickelit ordered me to do so.
So I committed a crime this morning, in the course of approaching my voting precinct. Some property manager decided to post "no trespassing" signs at both entrances to the rental hall which acts as my ward's voting precinct. I complained to the election judges, who knew what I was talking about and seemed mildly embarrassed but not inclined to do anything about the problem.
I talked to the party, we'll see if something is done about it. I suspect it had its origins in the owners' irritation at neighborhood dog-owners walking their pets on their grass, and weren't really thinking about the issues involved in posting a precinct, but goddamn.
