"Ebola Patient's Family Ordered To Stay Inside After Trying to Leave"

"Out of an abundance of caution, we're starting with this very wide net, including people who have had even brief encounters with the patient or the patient's home," Texas Department of State Health Services spokesperson Carrie Wilson said in a statement. "The number will drop as we focus in on those whose contact may represent a potential risk of infection."

"We are stopping Ebola in its tracks in this country," CDC Director Tom Frieden said in the release. "We can do that because of two things: strong infection control that stops the spread of Ebola in health care; and strong core public health functions to trace contacts, track contacts, isolate them if they have any symptoms and stop the chain of transmission. I am certain we will control this."

Update.
A tweeter suggest it would be "xenophobic" to restrict Ebola pathways into the United States.

'Kelechi Obi' appears to have deleted her tweet, charging calls for flight restriction from Ebola afflicted countries, to the US, as "xenophobic".

Here's an idea: Why not stop ebola BEFORE it gets into the country (further)? This would eliminate the need to stop ebola "in its tracks" [vom.] in this country.

This phrase "an abundance of caution" is getting rolled out a lot, prefacing descriptions of activities that regular caution and common sense would dictate.

FYI, not to distract but there's a hilarious piece over at Ace of Spades detailing how Obama was super duper ultra earnestly concerned (NYT editorial, Senate Floor speech) in 2005 about the possible spread of avian flu to the U.S., including recognizing that it could be brought here by airplane, and berating Bush about the feds' "preparedness plan."

The Potemkin Village Idiot stars in yet another hypocritical contradiction that most of the population will never hear about.

What's with the guy vomiting all over outside the apartment? Good grief. It's like purposefully make a scene so they'll (whoever) comes and gets him.

And what's with the sick woman in the cab at the beginning of the story? Why are morbidly sick people out and about?

And how often do you come into contact with sick people's liquids?

What's with sick people's body liquids all over the place? If contagion is that dangerous that anyone who has any contact is endangered, how do you get from any contact whatsoever to contact with body liquids? Do they mean like breath? Sweat?

I don't even touch the elevator buttons with my finger.

Although, one time years ago I was recovering from pneumonia, out shopping examining some breakfast cereals or some such and a woman stormed down the aisle in her coat and heeled boots, clickity clack, clack clack straight up to me me at the halfway point and coughed directly into the side of my head, turned around and left clickety clack, clack, clack, and I felt assaulted with germ warfare, it was exactly like that. It made me angry.

I did not get sick but I was convinced I would.

Frankly, I do not know anyone who flies who does not come back with some touch of crud. It's quite obvious. I would think that alone would put people off flying but it doesn't. Each person that I talked to acknowledges, yes, they do frequently become ill when returning but refuse to connect it with flying because they don't want to kill the fun.

BTW, the same way this guy snuck in by lying on a form, there is nothing stopping others from doing the same.

The word has gone back. If you are infected and want the best treatment just do what that guy did.

That's basically what happened with the "unaccompanied minors".

There is a good chance there is more than just one guy here with Ebola.

There is probably a business... an Ebola underground.

There is one for Major league players out of Cuba.

Why wouldn't there be one for a deadly decease?

He would have needed a visa to fly into the US. The details on that visa might clear up questions on his intent. State Dept. site says it takes 23 days to get an appointment to apply for a tourist visa in Monrovia.

Duncan's case was expedited. He didn't have long to live.

I am sure the MSM will do a thorough investigation of his case and get to the bottom of it.

As soon as I heard the US refused to restrict travel from infected areas, I knew we were fucked.

It is the only sure way to stop the spread. And it requires force. And that requires adults unmuddled by PC brain fog doing what they have to do, even if violence is required.

Ebola and the enterovirus in the USA are entirely Obama's fault.

I remain uncertain if it's because he's an incompetent lefty fuckwad, or if he's an evil lefty fuckwad that wants to kill people.

Either way, people gonna die.
Goddamned asshole.

The Liberian government has said that it will prosecute Duncan for lying on a form about not having any contact with an infected person. If he survives, that is.

So...will the U.S. government send him back to Liberia to be prosecuted? Dilemma.

john said...

Duncan flew from Liberia to Brussels on Sept. 19. He continued to Washington’s Dulles Airport, before flying to the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport on a United Airlines flight.

Authorities with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have said airline passengers and flight crew members aren’t at risk for Ebola because Duncan wasn’t exhibiting symptoms until days later...

The operating philosophy that "you are not contagious if you don't have symptoms" is contradicted by

The Ebola incubation period is the period between infection with the virus and the appearance of symptoms associated with the disease. The incubation period can be as short as 2 days or as long as 21 days. A person is still contagious during this time.

That CDC says Duncan didn't have symptoms during travel seems to have the intent of quelling a panic. Hopefully they are smarter than that. He was in close contact with hundreds of people between Liberia, Brussels, DC, and Dallas, incubating (and wearing clothes that contacted the contagion).

Next time you fly United, think about who last sat in your seat.

From MadTownGuy's link:

The fact that they're backing away from this very coercive style of quarantine is good news," said ACLU legislative counsel Christopher Calabrese, who was unaware the proposed rules had been withdrawn.

How fitting if one of Christopher Calabrese's loved ones or Christopher Calabrese himself were to contract Ebola on a flight.

I know that's a wicked thought, but the cavalier attitude of such lawyers demands retort.
