"ALS ice bucket challenge co-founder Corey Griffin drowns, aged 27"

"Corey Griffin, a philanthropist who was instrumental in making the ALS ice bucket challenge fund-raising drive go viral, has died after drowning in a diving accident off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts."

"The 27-year-old's life was cut tragically short on Saturday (16 August) when he dove off a wharf that serves as a popular diving perch for locals, resurfacing once before disappearing back under the water and drowning."

At 27, he kicked the bucket way too soon.

He must have swum like an iron horse.

He should have stuck to hocking lapel ribbons for awareness rather than harvesting only the most organic ice for his publicity stunts.

Maybe he misunderstood the foreboding Italian Ichthyologist who said he would be "steeped with the fishes."

So where's the rest of the story? He dived off a popular "dive spot" and drowned. Ok, so WHY did he drown? Presumably, he didn't his head on the seabed, since its a Popular "Dive spot". Is the lack of details due to his being drunk or stoned? Did anyone dive into to save him? Really, where are the details?

This happened more than a month ago didn't it?

Details gleaned from several reports:
1. He jumped from two stories up off a wharf building
2. He sustained two crushed vertebrae
So he broke his neck somehow in the fall.

Odd that this wasn't deemed newsworthy until a month after the fact.

Was it Aridog who commented on this a long time ago - someone here was familiar with the site and suggested that one would have to have been a bit foolish to think that was a reasonable jump to make.

Turns out it wasn't.
