The Moriori, of the Chatham Islands, practiced pacifism by order of their ancestor Nunuku-whenua. In turn, this led to their almost complete annihilation in 1835 by invading Ngāti Mutunga and Ngāti Tama Māori from the Taranaki region of the North Island of New Zealand. [We] were terrified, fled to the bush, concealed ourselves in holes underground, and in any place to escape our enemies. As I said in a previous thread about the Israeli / Palestinian debate, but what is even more so with these Jihadis in Iraq is how it offers such a clear moral test, and how so many are failing it. People can make the argument that we are in their lands and of course they would fight us, but these people are committing the most heinous atrocities against their own, and it seems clear that they don't do it out of necessity or the fog of war, but that they actually relish and enjoy it. They love the power of fear they create by beheading and burning women and children alive. Is there any doubt what would happen if they get nuclear weapons?
There is no way to avoid these people. There is no possibility of closing the curtains and going back to bed and expecting it to go away. We need to destroy them totally. We have the ability to do it. Whether we have the will is another question, but we will have to destroy them sooner later. They will not offer us another choice. Watch the videos of people begging for mercy before being coldly executed with no concern for who they are. They treat them like ants at a picnic, except these genocidal maniacs actually love it. They are trying to create a force that would be far worse than the NAZIs, who at least had some measure of pragmatism. History will look back at this time and ask why didn't we stop them when it was easy before they destroyed so much of the world and so many lives? Why were we so blind to the obvious? Why were we so feckless and cowardly? History is full of these moments and great powers ruling over peaceful times have often been here and it becomes the beginning of the end when they fail to act, and rely only on the hope that somehow the attackers will just give up and go home. They never do. We are their real target - the holy grail of self-aggrandizing terrorist fantasy. Their own people are just the lower levels of their game, but we are the target that will prove them great in Allah's eyes.
Where is the outcry from non-radical Muslims around the world, or even non-muslims? Crickets. We are on our own.

We could have just negotiated an agreement to keep troops there, but we wanted out so bad, and it turns out that when Obama actually does keep a promise, it's even worse than the broken ones. We got what a majority of us actually voted for on this one, and so did the Iraqis. Democracy without values is no blessing.

I don't know if what Haz predicts will happen. But if it does that will be the put up or shut up moment. I mean, is the West so devoid of the will to live that an ICBM strike won't be countered by ICBM strikes times ten? Left to Obama and his ilk there would not be a counterstrike. But that lack of response by our "elect" would surely lead to revolt, because I don't think that us lesser beings are without the will to live.

I concur. Unfortunately all that we insignificant peons can do is to hunker down, be prepared, stick together on our own, protect ourselves and try to weather the storm that is coming. Our gutless leaders will dither and equivocate us into death or worse.
I would not want to be anywhere near a large city, harbor, major hub or other strategic site at this time. I fear for those people who are in denial living in those areas. The only things that comfort me is that we ourselves are so far away from the beaten path and that there is no reason for us to be a terrorist target. We have nothing strategic. However, should the insane muslims get a nuclear bomb or access to biological weapons, all bets are off for anyone anywhere.
We have always been "stocked" up with food, ammo and other supplies. This weekend we are going to the "big" town to double up on some things....just in case. If I am wrong [and I sincerely hope I am]...well we will have a lot of "stuff", food etc in storage.

Our pathetic politicized education system has purposely, over the last few generations, NOT taught history or has taught a distorted history to push political viewpoints. We get gay pride history instead of the facts about important things like WWII. Our population has been dumbed down. They have no frame of reference and eat the pablum doled out the the MSM which consists of ignorant smug children.

Interesting. Just this weekend I was listening to the audio version of this book by the Pope and an Argentinian rabbi. In one chapter they discuss they Church's response to Nazi Germany and the Holocaust. The rabbi was very critical of the Church's position at the time. Felt it didn't speak out enough. In the end, they came to the conclusion that this was because the Pope at that time was a man of diplomacy and relied on diplomatic tactics to try to manage the Nazis. We know how that worked out!! I wonder if that conversation with the rabbi stuck with this Pope when he considered his response to the events in the Middle East.

which is what everyone claims when he comes out with stuff that the media spins as "income redistribution" or approving drastic changes in Catholic doctrine.
The example of two Popes are very instructive. Pope Pius as was mentioned regarding World War Two. Pope John Paul II regarding the Communists. I would like to see which type of Pope that Pope Francis will be.
A clear and unambiguous call to action would be much appreciated. I doubt the we will get a bigger persecution of Christians during his papacy.
I am very grateful that he is taking at least some steps. Let's see.

You are right; but is a holy war really a bad thing?
Among the other things notable about this whole episode, it gives a vivid lesson in just why the Crusades were organized.
Below, a man who knows what's what is very concerned. Me too, and I have no confidence in our civilian leadership.

Father, I defer to you but it seems the statement informs people who may not know Catholicism that there are guidelines for a just war, set down by Saints Augustine and Thomas Aquinas. To me, that seems the prudent first step.
