"FedEx Indicted for Shipping Drugs for Online Pharmacies"

"FedEx delivered drugs to Internet pharmacies that supplied pills to customers who filled out online questionnaires, and were never examined by doctors -- knowing these practices violated federal and state drug laws, the government alleged."

"The company vowed to fight the charges, saying it can’t be responsible for the contents of the 10 million packages it transports daily and that policing customers would violate their privacy."

Isn't this sort of a problem for the government's claim?

FedEx is going to get far with their privacy claim, as the government doesn't believe in privacy. For citizens, I mean. Good luck getting the bastards to tell you anything about themselves. If you needed to know something, they'd tell you.

My mad dinner skillz paid off again.

By just doing what I do. Just being natural. I never expected anything. Reward was not my aim. I wasn't thinking anything like that. The only thing I was doing was reaching out to a distant, somewhat self-absorbed friend. One who doesn't remember half his nonsense he inflicts on people because he drinks so much and tends to anger people.

I invited his unloveable self over for dinner on his birthday. I was actually surprised he agreed on account of being so remote psychologically-wise. I did half expect him to cancel.

Showed up exactly on time.

Once here he remarked his family hadn't even contacted him, didn't call, no card, no nothing even though his sister-in-law's b.d. is two days away, and living nearby in Boulder so it'd be simple for his brother to connect the two dates. But nothing. No friends either, other than me.

Today I received a card with a notice indicating an account is opened in the bottle shop downstairs. They don't do that down there, they have no means to accommodate that, but they did this time. The friend gave them some cash for me to draw down. But I presently I have no idea how much. I'd say, if it's anything under $250,00 then the guy simply isn't trying. Or else why bother? He had to drive here in person to do that, but he didn't call or drop in even though he was right here. That's how he does. That is what makes him remote.

The bottle shop person was the guy who doesn't speak English so well, who said "Yeah, I know who you're talking about. He comes in here and gets a 12-pack of Pepsi and carries it out in his backpack."

That's me alright. A store credit for me, even though they have no official way to handle it. It's all by a notebook kept at the register. For me.

I'm kind of eager to go down there to find out how rich I am, but I don't need anything right now.

See? This goes to show you ... something ... um ... about something that you can not expect.

Damn, that dinner WAS good. I keep thinking about it. I whipped out the best salad dressing like that *snap* the whole time I was eating it, with each bite of apple or grape, I was thinking, "Man, I love myself for making such fantastic salads as this. You cannot buy such a thing." It's true, you cannot. I never get anything that great in restaurants, even very good restaurants. They just don't do it. Smooch smooch smooch the back of my hand in cartoon self-love. Then the steak on top of that was incredible. Steaks that good do not come out of a pan, yet there it is. Prepared perfectly. I keep wanting to go straight back to Tony's and get another one and perform the feat all over again. I can see why a person would want to express gratitude, but still, I did not expect that.

Was that the steak dinner you described on your blog?

You should kiss yourself for that one because that looked like a delicious dinner.

In a couple of the old school bodegas and Italian salumeria's in Carroll Gardens they still have the book. A plain black covered notebook where they would note the customers purchases and they would pay it off on payday or when they got their welfare check.

These places are almost all gone. There are only two of them left. One is run by my friend Vinnie. He still sells loosies but only if he knows you.

I made out like a bandito. I just opened a card in my mailbox and there is another pre-paid charge card to Whole Foods for $100.00. The card expressed gratitude for meals here throughout the year while passing through. It is convenient for me because W.F. is just a few blocks up the street.

There was also a pop-up card from Thailand clamped onto my front door. And another note from the office taped on my door as well. They brought them up and placed them on the door without knocking. I discovered them both upon leaving.

The pop-up card is a bit dumb. I got the whole story of the deaf people selling them out of a kiosk outside the hotel in Thailand. The person was amazed the exact same people were still there as last time a few years previously.

But what else are they to do? They got their pop-up skillz and that's it. The arrangement works.

My sign language would be of no use. And that bums me out. Thailand does not contribute to spread the sign website. Of all the contributing countries, their flag does not appear.

Too bad. The only Asian country is Japan, and they are a case unto themselves.

For example "card"

defaults to "cards" as in "playing card" For "card" I'd just have to pantomime.

Japan does not contribute for "card".
Polish is our word for "bother"
Italian is "deal" + our word for "money"
Portuguese Brazil is the same as US, "deal"
Russia is shuffle a deck like a magician.
Turkish is "a card for you, and a card for you"
French is "deal cards vertically as a machine"
Portuguese is "slap a card for you, and one for you"
Spanish is "deal a card to all players around the table"
Chech is our word for "cake (shuffle cards)"
Lithuanian is "cards off the top of the deck for two people"
Swedish "rectangle" + "deal"
British "deal" + "make"
Bulgarian "issue" + "slice bread"
Romanian "rotate cards off the deck"
Latvian "break off two cards"
Estonian "cake" +"fire"
German Austria "spread your own cards like peacock feathers"
Icelandic "money bills"

So, all very similar. I could get by with these.

Alas, no Thailand, nothing Asian, as if they don't exist, as if they don't care, as if they just let their deaf languish, their concepts unable to be signed. My heart is filled with pity. It must be entirely idiosyncratic, or perhaps they were simply not notified about spread the sign web site. Maybe they were too busy making pop-up cards.

Nothing negative meant, Chip. But you do at times stretch the bounds of my interest. Label me whatever.
